Avatar trailer hit the interwebs today. For anyone not keeping track its what Jim Cameron's spent the majority of the last decade working on. You can watch the trailer over at www.apple.com/trailers. I gotta say it looks pretty amazing. It does look amazing. I read some online comments on a movie site before watching the trailer and many people seem disappointed then I watched and loved it. Got to wonder if expectations are so high for a new Cameron movie that some people won't be satisfied no matter how good it is. I wish I had gotten tickets to that free preview thingy they are having at movie theaters tomorrow. The problem is that the hype on it has been out of control. Everyone thought because of all the time and energy spent creating the technology just to make the film that its going to be a completely revolutionary thing but I think thats overselling it to an extent. While I don't think its going to change the future of film I think it could be the most immersive 'world building' since Star Wars.

this has been all over the news here cause Weta Workshop in Wellington helped with some of the CGI.

While Mr Clark and myself liked the Avatar trailer we seem to be in the minority. It has gotten so bad that the reaction to the trailer has gotten it's own "Hitler in the Bunker" fan video. ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAPyipuT-JgEven though I disagree with it I think the video makes some good points. watch closely and you'll see Lucas = Stalin ;D Oh and yes the "Hitler in the Bunker" videos are in poor taste but the "Hitler learns Michael Jackson dies" one is pretty funny and the "Hitler is banned from Fulltilt" is the funniest thing I've ever seen online. ;D in fact I'm off to watch it again

(and embarrassingly addictive, aren't they?) (I'm with you guys, I thought the Avatar trailer looked pretty cool, but I'm so the last person who knows what else is out there for comparison... )

Or maybe it’s the German thing of better not laughing about Hitler… (Hadn’t heard of Avatar before (apart from the Anime series ;D) but the trailer made me look it up… ;D)

Grmpf, this is only half fun when you understand what they say. Or maybe it’s the German thing of better not laughing about Hitler… Yeah I could see how knowing what they are saying would ruin it. Easier to mock him when you think he's only talking about James Cameron or Michael Jackson.

recent movies... Julie and Julia or is it Julia and Julie? whatever... kind of surprised but I did enjoy this, Meryl Streep is just so entertaining and Stanly Tucci who plays her husband is always great. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was good though for me not as good as the previous 2 or 3 films. No Idea why really, kind of felt like they were killing time with this one, just waiting for the next. Inglorious Basterds was excellent, though very different from what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a war film and this is really more of a espionage film. I was left wanting to know more about the individual "basterds" as it is my favorite character was the cinema owner. Anyways I am a major Tarantino fan and I really liked it. Wouldn't put it up there with his best films but an entertaining and surprising film.

I loved Inglorious Basterds. Brad Pitt and Eli Roth were fantastic. As for course was pretty much the entire cast. I really wish the movie had focused more on the Basterds than the hole cinema owner plot.
I saw Extract the other night and I gotta say I was really disappointed by it. It just wasn't anywhere near as good as Office Space and the cast didn't bowl me over either. Even the consistantly impressive Jason Bateman seemed pretty flat.

Ok so I've kinda been on the fence about Avatar. Sci-Fi really isnt my favorite genre and while I was always impressed with the ambition of the film I was never really sold on the story. Well that is until I watched the international trailer I just discovered. I have to say this is much better than the first US trailer in terms of giving a sense of the story and characters. Now I think I'm fully on board for this, the scale seems just awesome and the story has now hooked me in. Click this link to behold the awesomeness.

Also in other news the trailer for a movie I've been waiting over a year and a half for debuted yesterday. That would be Green Zone. I'm struggling to put into words my feelings for this film now after seeing this trailer. When I first heard that Paul Greengrass (a man I consider a genius) was making a movie about Iraq I had high hopes that he was going to make a 21st Century Battle of Algiers which for those that don't know is an amazing and particularly poignant film about the Algerian insurgent conflict against the French. Greengrass has always said that film was his single biggest influence as a film maker and I thought this would be the perfect material for him to make something that powerful. That being said this is not the Battle of Algiers what this is, is Spygame, Body of Lies and the Bourne films thrown into a blender. If I had not had my previous expectations I would have been absolutely extact with this idea. I don't think anyone could find a more loyal fan of the Bourne films and in particular those that Greengrass helmed, I could wax lyrical about them for weeks on end. So suffice it to say that even though I'm disappointed by the trailer I'm also extremely excited at the same time. BTW if anyone here hasn't seen Battle of Algiers I can't recommend it highly enough its an amazing film, probably the best one ever made when it comes to portraying an insurgent conflict.

I read Green Zone a couple years ago and found it fascinating. I watched this movie trailer and am excited to see the movie. But that trailer has nothing to do with the book .
