I saw the Hangover tonight and it is the funniest film I've seen at least since Superbad, maybe even funnier than that. One thing I have to say to anyone that goes to see this DO NOT I repeat DO NOT hustle out of the theater when the credits start to roll. I hate to say this because it sounds like a put down but what they show during the credits is maybe one of the funniest parts of the hole movie at least in turns of 1-2 minutes straight of gut busting laughter. The movie is hilarious from start to finish. Carlos FTW Indeed!

Haven't seen any movies lately since Hellboy 2. I still want to go see Terminator Salvation but doubt now that I will get to the theatre to see it. It's cheaper for me to see it in the theatre than buy or even rent the DVD when it comes out.
Totally excited for Transformers 2 and I will be seeing that opening weekend ;D Can't wait!!

Taking of Pelham 123 - 7.5/10
I have to come clean I'm a huge fan of both Scott brothers. Ridley is a legend that just makes epic masterpieces. Tony is just brilliant at making well above average popcorn flicks. Tony's films tend to have this kind of kinetic energy to them that threatens to go completely out of control at every turn and he uses that skill to great effect here. I loved the first 2/3rds of this films they were tense, smartly written and perfectly executed. The problem is that the final third things go from being a tense hostage/rescue scenario to a chase film. While I can't really say the first 2/3rds were anything new or ground breaking they were so excellently scripted and tightly choreographed that you can't help but get caught up. The final act however just feels cut and pasted from any one of a dozen Hollywood tent poles. I have to say the one bit of this film I loved above all else is a sort of subplot where by we see the transit of the ransom money as its rushed through the streets of New York via a Dodge Charger cop car with motorcycle escorts, in broad daylight at breakneck speeds through one of the most congested cities in the world. It is so frenetic and exhilarating that that it really should somehow be worked into a film of its own somehow.
Its rather tragic that this film suffers from the same flaws as one of Tony Scott's previous close calls with real greatness. His work with the first 2 acts of Deja Vu was exceptional only to be torn apart for a ridiculous final act. That being said if your a Tony Scott fan like I am you can probably forgive this its somewhat stale ending and try and walk away remembering the good over the bad.

The Brothers Bloom - 8.5/10
Rian Johnson is a prodigy, the man will be an A-list director very very soon, he is immensely talented. He's going to be like the Coen's or Paul Thomas Anderson, a guy who writers and directs these brilliant little films that have there own unique characters and languages all there own. Brick was one of the most brilliantly simple little films I've seen in a long time and Brothers Bloom is more fun and up beat for most of its running time. Mark Ruffalo really ought to be a household name by now the man has been a brilliant actor for quite a few years now and when he wants to be he can be exceptionally charismatic and charming. The tone and feel of this film is a bit like the Ocean's movies except its more simple and less flashy. It has this sort of off beat sense of humor and a smart wit about it that make it a lot of fun. It does get a bit dramatic at the end and to be honest I'm not quite sure its whether its a satisfying conclusion or slightly annoying. Either way its a very smart film and if your near a theater thats carrying this its worth a watch.

So I saw Transformers 2 on Wensday in IMax, I saw it again Monday night and I have to say I still can't come to a firm conclusion on how I feel about the film. I will say that it is an incredible thing to experience in IMax. If you have the means, I again must recommend this even more than I did when I harped abut it for the Dark Knight and Watchmen.
The only thing I can really say about the movie is that it is completely 100% bat f*cking insane, I mean that in every spectrum of the word. The biggest problem I have is that the incessant comic relief that was relatively fun and innocent in the first film is Van Wilder levels of raunchy in this film, and at times offensive and borderline racist. This film features a lot of really stupid and pointless characters that soak up aggravatingly large amounts of screen time that could be dolled out to far more interesting ones. There is also really no plot to speak of, theres something that looks vaguely like a plot if your really squint hard enough but its sole purpose is to bridge the gap between GIANT FREAKING EXPLOSIONS! It is kind of funny though as the storyline of this film more closely resembles the way the original cartoon was structured.
Shia Lebouf gives a valiant effort but even he can't quite ground this film into anything approaching reality. Unlike many I don't hate Shia, I think he has a lot of talent and charisma he just hasn't really proved himself as an actor with range. I've said many times his best pure acting work was in Eagle Eye which isn't really saying a hole lot. Megan Fox is gorgeous as always. The real revelation is Isabel Lucas this girl is incredible, I don't know where Michael Bay finds these chicks but god its amazing. Also if you look closely you'll notice a cameo by Mathew Marsden who played the Dead Man Walking that Ziva fell in love with on NCIS, he plays a British SAS officer, and has maybe one or two lines.
The action sequences are epic in scale, I can safely say you have never seen robot carnage and epic explosions on this level. Watching them in IMax is amazing supposedly in some shots on the IMax screen Optimus Prime is actually 100% too scale which is pretty freaking sweet.
One of the funny things about this movie is that its essentially an amalgamation of all of Michael Bay and/or the writer's favorite Sci-Fi/Adventure films. Much of what happens is referencing among other things Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Gremlins and Alien. Theres little elements of all those films rolled up into this big ball.
I have a hard time recommending this film but at the same time its worth seeing. Not really so much as a movie, you kind of have to go into it like you would one of those Discovery channel shows where they demolition stuff. Its destruction and mayhem taken to pornographic levels.

Mr.Clark is correct - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has everything. The only thing missing from the movie was a baby being birthed in an elevator. I took three kids, two eleven and a twelve year old. They thought it was the best movie they've ever seen. It's not that my cousins want to hang with me - but I pay. ;D A movie aimed at 12 year olds can get painful after 2 1/2 hours and adults need earplugs for this movie. Any metal that can be clanged together - loudly - gets clanged. This could have been two movies, with added sequences, with real people between the clanging. Some of the robot thingies would have been more appealing with less of them. Of course, then it wouldn't be making a billion dollars.

I came accross this rather hilarious piece in a blog I read regularly. Its basically a Q&A that sums up nicely a lot of the insanity of Transformers 2. Link

That's hilarious. It should be required reading before watching the movie. My three cousins, that I took to the movie the other day, are going to see it again today. They love it enough to spend their own money, instead of mine.
