Starting a new thread before the other gets wonky. I saw Tropic Thunder and thought it good fun. Some big laughs. Basically with this one what you see in the trailer is what you get in the movie, if you didn't like the trailer then stay away. Thought Robert Downey Jr was amazing and Tom Cruise was just as good in his smaller role. Was great to see Jay Baruchel from Undeclared have a good sized role as the only really likeable member of the acting troop. BTW Undeclared is a hilarious TV show and I highly recommend the DVD. Also god help me but I did go and see Star Wars: The Clone Wars. You know what? there is a lot of imagination in this movie and yet you walk out of the theater and just want to punch George Lucas in his fat smug face . This movie is quite a bit like the "prequels" good action scenes surrounded by a ponderous plot and weighed down by some of the worst dialog in movie history. The one plus is that because it is animated you don't have to deal with the wooden acting. It just pisses me off how Lucas seems to sell his own films short by aiming for the lowest common denominator. Look back at those first 3 films and you'll see a fun adventure story but there was also snappy dialog, fun characters and some dark themes. Cut to thirty years later and you just have George trying to sell toys to the kiddies . And you know what? he could make the films a little more adult and still sell plenty of toys.... look at the Dark Knight. I'm not saying he should go that dark, but jeez stop insulting us . A young female Jedi flirting with Anakin Skywalker while they are fighting off droid attackers? f^ck you George Lucas! On the plus side....who knew baby Hutts were so cute?

I saw Tropic Thunder as well and it is very good fun, its really a satire of Hollywood so the more into film you are the more funny it will be, which isn't to say you cant enjoy it if your not a film geek. I was going to right a proper review but just couldn't be bothered. It is a good film RDJ is quality, I read a great interview where he said the reason he took the role was because he 'thought it was the kind of role Peter Sellers would have taken'. Bruchel is pretty good but my favorite was Jack Black, i generally dont care for him in most of his leading roles but in this I thought he was great. Tom Cruise and McConaughey were great in there cameo roles. The end credit scene was absolutely classic.
As far as star wars, im not gonna waste my money, ill wait till it hits the internets or netflix, if i even bother at all.

Saw Vicky Christina Barcelona last week and I gotta say it was pretty good. I'm probably one of the few people that has really enjoyed all of Woody Allen's recent films, even the barely seen Cassandra's Dream and Scoop, I really enjoy his writing/directing style he creates great characters and the way they mesh together is always fun to watch. Then theirs Scarlett Johansson I have watched some seriously embarrassing movies just to see her, in this tho shes very good mixed in with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem's more exotic look she reminded me of Grace Kelly. Javier Bardems great in this as well, aside from his considerable acting talent the guys just fecking cool.

Just got home from seeing Traitor. Its a very solid film, sort of like Bourne meets Syriana. Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce are very very good actors and there given an excellent story here to play with. Its a smart and timely spy thriller with great plot twists and exceptional acting, by the time the stakes get high your thoroughly invested in Chedle's character which is a tricky thing because up till the end your really not sure whether you want him to succeed or fail. One thing i still cant believe is that apparently this story was conceived by Steve Martin, yes that Steve Martin. Its a good film worth watching in theaters, but if your a cheap SOB it should definitely go on your Netflix list. Trailer in glorious quicktimes!

I've been meaning to see this but haven't gotten out to the movies in awhile. I haven't seen any of his recent films , but I do love me some 70's & 80's Woody Allen films. Crimes and Misdemeanors www.imdb.com/title/tt0097123/ is my favorite and in fact one of my all time favorite movies. And just because I am always looking for a chance to recommend this one Barcelona www.imdb.com/title/tt0109219/ is a terrific movie. I can't say enough good things about this. It's a romantic comedy with great dialog and interesting characters. Reminds me a little of Wes Anderson's films though probably less idiosyncratic. and yes I had to look up the spelling on idiosyncratic

Most of the critics haven't been to big on Allen's recent films with the exception of Match Point which was without questions a very good film. Personally I've enjoyed his last several even the critical flops.

("a while" here is definitely relative... ;D)been at least two...... going through withdrawal I'm surprised you had the strength to type that! ;D Can't be that you're on strike 'til the movies get better... (oh! But "Burn After Reading" opens Friday, right? That's a hopeful sign...)

Ok, I'm a fairly critical type but I still say theres some good stuff coming out, unless your talking about the past week that is. 2 weeks ago Traitor came out which was quite good, Hamlet 2 is supposed to be good but i haven't gotten around to it yet. You are right about Burn After Reading which is supposed to be very very good.

I'm surprised you had the strength to type that! Took me three days damn it I can't find a good tired/exhausted smileyAm thinking of going to see Traitor maybe this weekend. I'm sure I'll go see Burn After Reading but I don't love the Coen Bros. comedies like I love their dramas/thrillers. Except of course for Raising Arizona which is a classic .

Saw Burn After Reading this afternoon and its very very good. Its not my favorite Coen film, but its tied for second with No Country. Brad Pitt and Fancis McDormand are great, the Coen's seem to have a knack for getting Clooney at his weirdest his character here reminded me alot of his character from Intolerable Cruelty, for a guy who usually plays characters with a casual cool hes very pepped up. My favorite scenes in the film are those featuring J.K. Simmons and David Rasche as two CIA big wigs trying to sort out the mess thats unfolding, theres only a couple scenes featuring them and unfortunately there towards the end but there the funniest moments for me, they're best scene being the films ending which is almost as good as the ending of Millers Crossing though I doubt anything could beat the brilliance of that film. It is a very funny film on the hole tho probably my favorite Coen comedy.

Saw Choke and Eagle Eye this week.
Choke was good but not quite as inspired as i was hoping, its no Fight Club. That being said theirs a lot of the same concepts in different forms. The humor is very good, Sam Rockwell is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood today. There are a few bits of the great Palahnuik philosophy mixed in but there more subtle than with Fight Club. I'd rate it as a very solid VERY adult comedy.
Eagle Eye is a hole nother ball game, a thriller that in some ways felt like Three Days of the Condor, directed by Michael Bay with a script from Stanley Kubrick. Its not perfect there are some far fetched plot elements but the story on the hole is solid the action is intense, its suspenseful and the acting is above average for this sort of fair. Probably Shia Labeoufs best film yet IMO, hes a very gifted actor, I think 90% of why people hate him is he's over saturated his market by this point.

Finally saw Burn After Reading and had almost the exact opposite reaction to it that Mr. Clark had. Literally the only two scenes in the movie I found entertaining were the two with J.K. Simmons. I know I said I wasn't the biggest fan of the Coen Bros comedies but I enjoyed them all ten times more than this and that includes the Ladykillers. hmmmm it might just be bad enough to keep me away from the movies for another couple months .
