Around -5 all day and feels like -10. three days of monsooning thunderstorms and temps 70-75F! (aka 21-24 C ;D) Want to trade with very wintery -18 °C / -0,4 °F and extremely dry, powdery, cristally snow? (I'll take the monsoon...)

Ah, but you waited too long -- just came in from dinner out and saw (felt!) that it was 39 F/ 4C -- the poor flowers that were confused into blooming a few days ago looked so odd when seeing them thru frozen breath!

Apparently Germany might soon run out of road salt. With the thick sheets of ice on the streets around here I'm ready to believe.

So after several days of what the locals called "bitter" cold (around 20f/-7c degrees for about 4-5 days in a row), it's 71f/22c right now, with promises to get to 78/26! (it really is Jan 21, right?) Lots of thunderstorms & tornado-y weather last night -- I hear you SoCal folks had some of the same?

Ice and snow. Kind of cool, elevating feeling to go from biking to on the street next to the bike, realizing that reflexes worked. It's a non stop rain here in Indonesia..Sometime's I feel like living in a post-pulse Seattle..too bad without a Logan Hm, but wouldn't that be warm rain, forcing Logan to de-shirt? ;D

SO schools & businesses are closed, the Gov has declared a state of emergency for half the state-- forecasts for last night and again for today say HEAVY SNOW ... And when I get up this morning I look out -- viola! Snow, yes,,, but I can still see blades of grass sticking up through that first "heavy" downpour! It's all relative (I'm in the zone of heaviest forecast, 5-9" -- and people are already blogging about "treacherous" roads and tons of accidents at, maybe, a half inch! If we actually get any accumulation they're gonna implode! ) ...at least it's an excuse to park on the couch and do today's work in my jammies! EDITED to add: so okay, it's actually very pretty, now that the "heavy" snow started up again -- it actually looks like a real, old fashioned Indiana snow that could end up in an inch or two. (I hear kids outside squealing and playing in the next block!) Grass might actually be covered in another 20 min. And poor Dr. Shy still has to go in to work -- his uni brought in a bunch of regional unis' kids for some conference, so even though all the schools & unis are closed, they have a captive bunch to entertain! He'll have to fight through all those two or three inches of snow to get there.
Oh, the humanity!

This is more entertaining than cable! Our local paper has a live chat blog, and people are freaking out about the weather (updated to a prediction now of 2"-4" total). One person raled on about a local clinic "endangering their employees' lives" by making them come to work -- People, the snow has been coming down since 2 AM and it has not YET started sticking to the roads and sidewalks here!!! It's 34 degrees (on its way to 40!) so I'm thinking other than in fear of the sheer lunacy of people, there is no cause for alarm!! (these are people who chose not to leave when a Cat 5 hurricane is a few miles away... ) Given that Ronald Regan International (Washington, D.C.) reported having 55" before another batch of snow was expected a couple days ago, I'm thinking we need a serious wake up call around here. (and hell yes, I'm staying inside! Can you imagine how these people are behind the wheel in panic mode??? )

And when I get up this morning I look out -- viola! Snow, yes,,, Your snow comes with a dramatic viola effect? Nice. (I know, I know.... ) Your snow sounds a lot like my snow. Has been snowing pretty much nonstop since Tuesday night... and all we got is about 25 cms and a very ugly layer of muddy, dirty salt-snow-mix on the streets. This is more entertaining than cable! Our local paper has a live chat blog, and people are freaking out about the weather (updated to a prediction now of 2"-4" total). One person raled on about a local clinic "endangering their employees' lives" by making them come to work -- Oookay. Now go to that forum and tell them how they have to go up on their roofs and shovel so they won't collapse . ;D ;D ;D Can you imagine how these people are behind the wheel in panic mode??? ) Ah, they just need to get out their bikes. Seriously, I've come to the conclusion that bikers are the better snow drivers. Nobody freaks, everybody knows not to break and make jerky movements and if people fall they just get up again, no big deal.
