I’m far from complaining about the weather being at least 10 C too warm (as in being 10 C)… but blooming trees in late November? Yep, white flowers, not snow or anything seasonal like that. Just when they opened the Christmas markets with all the hot drinks and warm food. Just noticed we're under a Hurricane Watch. Peachy.(doesn't look too likely to hit here, and not as huge as SOME we've had in these parts, , but still. And to think my visitor from across the pond managed to get out of firing range before it came! ) Hey, some people actually turned out to be good weather fairies….

I've never lived anywhere where it has snowed, I always have to go visit the snow I've had the dubious distinction of having gone through both a blizzard and a hurricane (and have been under several tornadoes that have gone through and sheared off trees maybe 20-50 feet above the ground, but I don't think you get full credit for those.) Do I get a Major Award or something?

This was a serious snow ... even surviving a few hours of sun this morning! (sent several people in my office scurrying out at lunch yesterday for "supplies" before the Big Storm arrived! : This is more snow than I’ve seen so far this winter. (Did it send the poor squirrels into hibernation?) (but about that cookout for tonight... ) Just look at it like that: Cooking / frying / barbecuing all kinds of yummy foods outside, when it’s icy and snowy is basically… a Christmas market. ;D (Easy to say from my non-snow part of the world ) I've had the dubious distinction of having gone through both a blizzard and a hurricane (and have been under several tornadoes that have gone through and sheared off trees maybe 20-50 feet above the ground, but I don't think you get full credit for those.) Do I get a Major Award or something? And in the debris you found a dismembered display dummy and kept her as a trophy? (Yet another of those moments where I completely miss the cultural signs )

Do I get a Major Award or something? And in the debris you found a dismembered display dummy and kept her as a trophy? (Yet another of those moments where I completely miss the cultural signs ) As Spikeloud intimated, this was a reference to a Christmas movie from the 80s that became a classic awfully quickly -- A Christmas Story -- check it out at www.imdb.com/title/tt0085334/ Even better, find a copy of the movie, in English of you can, because as so many good stories the way things are said just make the movie! the reference: at one point the father does something -- maybe enters a contest? -- and learns he's won a major award -- or, as often as he repeats it, a Major Award. (and to completely spoil any surprise ... you're looking at it!) Honestly, if you haven't seen the movie yet, you ought to see if it's available, maybe on line -- cable TV here shows it maybe 30 times every December now! It's a wonderful bouncy feel good Christmas movie that needs to be seen!

(I needed the long version considering my brain never came up with the fact that there are no leg-shaped lamps in the biblical Christmas story )
