from imdb.com Me: So Michael took a dip in the Lagoon. How long did it take for everyone to get him to shower and change? Debra (the producer) It was very very hot in Sacramento when we filmed. So after his "bath", he smelled and looked awful. He also truly enjoyed rehearsals. Flex kept telling him "Man, you stink!" He kept trying to cozy up to Estella. Poor Estella! Finally one of our wonderful production assistance walked Michael over to his parent's home to have him shower. He tormented us all for about an hour. Why do I get the feeling he did it on purpose? He just seems to be that kind of guy who will do anything just to crack everyone up!

that's what I thought too. It sounds as though there was never a dull moment on the set.

'Her Minor Thing' to open Sac Film Festival"Her Minor Thing," a romantic comedy written by determined Sacramento filmmaker Jim Meyers, will have its official local premiere as the opening-night movie for the Sacramento Film & Music Festival in August. The movie, filmed in the Sacramento area last summer with actors and crew members from the Southern California film industry, will show at the Crest Theatre at 1013 K St. at 7 p.m. Aug. 17, Meyers said Monday. The 91-minute film had its world premiere this month at the Seattle International Film Festival, where it enjoyed two sold-out showings, Meyers wrote in an e-mail. A review by Vancouver, B.C., critic Ken Eisner posted at Variety.com, however, called the movie "a would-be sex comedy that lacks appeal." "Her Minor Thing" is the story of a gorgeous 27-year-old female firefighter who works with scores of men, and the pandemonium that ensues after her boyfriend accidentally reveals on TV that she's a virgin. Directed by Charles Matthau, the movie's stars include Estella Warren, Michael Weatherly, Christian Kane and Rachel Dratch. Meyers, who has a background in movie and television production, has been working on the film for years, tenaciously pursuing financing and industry pros willing to take a chance on the project. Another of the Seattle Film Festival viewers reviews
Very Sweet and Original, 11 June 2005
Author: soccer.goalie@verizon.net from Seattle, Washington
I was lucky enough to see the world primer of "Her minor Thing" at the Seattle International Film Festival. The director, writers, producers, and the two main actors (Christian Kane and Estella Warren) were also attending. After a introduction be the SIFF coordinator and a short film called "Hello" the film begin.
I won't walk you through every single scene of the film, but I will give you my overall impressions. Charles Matthau, as always, directed the project brilliantly: the editing, sound, and camera angles were all used to exploit a reaction from the audience along with the actors' performances. I went to the film with mixed feelings about seeing yet another "romantic comedy", a term that is almost used as a curse word nowadays, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
Unlike most comedies were the girl is sobbing on the couch after her so-called true love did something completely horrid and uncaring, Warren's character was a girl who wasn't afraid to take matters into her own hands without proceeding into the "b***h" territory. Warren really brought her character away from the bright, bubbly, damsel in distress area and made this girl her own. Some of the events were slightly obvious and contrived, like as soon as we saw Kane's character we knew he would end up with Warren's, and the meetings between these characters seemed to be unrealistic, but hey, it's a low-budget comedy, give credit were it's due.
Other than that issue, I really couldn't find anything else to dislike about the film. Christian Kane's character wasn't the perfect man, he had issue that he had to deal with just like a real person. The supporting cast, such as Rachel Dratch, Flex Alexander, Kathy Griffin, and David Fine stole many of the scenes in which they were in or even just standing in the background (watch out for Charles Matthau's cameo with the fork scene). The performance were all very well done, Christian Kane proved why he had such a strong fan base and Estella Warren showed that she can stand toe to toe with any well known leading man or lady and still give as good as she gets.
The main thing I really appreciated about this film was there was no "fall down" humor. All the humor was from real life situations (having to get directions to the airport), the actors' reactions (look for Kane's "is this girl nuts" look), the actual dialogue (midget porn), and just through the characters themselves (the petty fight for the basketball). No one tripped or got hit by a door, which is a nice change of pace from the current romantic "comedy".
All in all, this film is good. It's not "Love Actually", but it can certainly hold it's own next to it. If there is a wide release of "Her Minor Thing" be sure to catch it in theatres, you won't be disappointed.

from imdb.com Viewers reviews Absolutely loads of fun, 14 June 2005 Author: arandfan from United States I had the pleasure to view this movie at SIFF on Sunday. It's refreshing to watch a movie where the dialog isn't full of foul language. The strength in this film is in the dialog which is loaded with lots of funny lines although I missed a few of the lines because the audience was laughing. I'd go see it again if it hits the theaters. The characters were real and the script well written. I know a lot of girls like the main character who are true romantics and I think this movie would especially appeal to them. I especially enjoyed Michael Weatherly as the good looking anchorman, Rachel Dratch as the best friend, and Kathy Griffin as the crazy lawyer. They each brought depth to their characters. The sleazy taxi driver was very entertaining also. The movie kept my interest from start to finish....no lulls or boring parts. Go see this one if it comes to theaters. Entertaining and Funny, 14 June 2005 Author: cactusjenn from Seattle My husband and I both enjoyed this movie. It takes a good movie for a guy to admit he enjoyed a "chick flick". There were several parts where the whole theater was laughing. The movie kept us entertained and waiting for the next laugh. The actors were believable and added a lot to the movie. The story was cute and you were pulled in to the characters lives. For me, it would be a great movie to go and see with my daughter, my mother, or a friend and all of us could enjoy it. This was the first movie we saw at a SIFF event and it was a great introduction to independent films. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD so we can rent it.

Me: As a whole most of the Seattle audience reviews are excellent. You must be thrilled
Debra (the producer)
Hi,
Yes we are. We think the film is a real crowd pleaser. People came up to us afterwards telling us how much they enjoyed the film.
Me: Will Her Minor Thing be premiering anywhere else apart from Film Festivals?
I don't know if you can answer this one, but was Michael schedule conflict a new movie or mini-series that he is filming in his break from NCIS?
I understand Vancouver, B.C., critic Ken Eisner posted a review at Variety.com that wasn't exactly flattering. Have you, as a whole had good reviews for Her Minor Thing?
Debra the Producer: Hi, We're pursuing both Film festivals and domestic & international distribution. Trust me when I tell you I wished it were happening sooner also!
Sorry, I don't know Michael's schedule, but I do believe during his break he went on vacation. After "Her Minor Thing" he worked steadily on NCIS and was needing a little time off.
We've had good reviews from people who've seen the movie. I expect like any film, some people won't like it. Mr. Eisner also didn't like another comedy playing at Seattle I though was extremely well done. Comedy is extremely subjective, you have to decide for yourself many times.
Take care, Debra

Debra (the producer) We did submit to Toronto Film Festival. We've not heard yet if we got in. So if you know someone on that committee...put in a good word for us!
We also submitted to Raindance Festival in the UK. Just finished this submittal. We'll know about both by mid August I expect.

More from Imdb.com Me: Why did you chose Sacremento as a location to shoot Her Minor Thing? It sounds as though the people there were fantastic, but why there?
Debra the producer We chose Sacramento because we live here. We raised the money here and had tremendous support from the community. Many films are shot here, depicting another place. We wanted to show Sacramento as well, Sacramento. When you see the movie, you'll realize what Sacramento really looks like!

Me: So you basically giving back to the community. That's great. How did the actors fit in with the enviroment? Was it a culture shock for them? It seemed everyone came from different backgrounds. With Michael having worked in New York and Los Angeles where people always seem too busy to stop and enjoy whats around them, Sacremento must have seemed some what calmer.
Will the trailer be added to the Her Minor Thing website?
Debra: The actors actually talked a little about filming in Sacramento during the Q&A at the Seattle film festival. They enjoyed it and sensed the community support. I know they were very gracious to their fans. Michael had a great time. He played golf, goofed around with Christian and showed up one day at the Production Office to talk to the support staff. He made crank phone calls to Flex until I told him to not get us arrested by Flex' people! (; BTW, Flex once saved me from falling down a hill. So he's my hero! My husband asked me if I hurt Flex. (:
Yes, we're working on a trailer now. I don't have a finish date yet.

from imdb.com Me: Who is Flex? Did you have these particular actors in mind for the lead roles or was it just casting luck that you got such a great cast? Debra: Flex Alexander www.herminorthing.com/cast.html#flex Yes when we wrote the script we had actors in mind. We had a great casting director who got us our cast. Her name is Orly Sitowitz. She did a fantastic job for us. Also many of the cast members said they were drawn to the project because the script had such fun parts for them.

Me: Do you have any other upcoming projects or is getting Her Minor Thing into our cinemas taking up most of your time at the moment?
What sort of crank calls did Michael make to Flex?
What were your first impressions upon meeting Michael?
Debra: We are working on some additional scripts and one other producing project. We don't talk about them a great deal until we've got the structure in place to move forward with them.
Michael kept posing as different people on the crew and famous people when he was calling Flex. It was funny to listen to from our side. I didn't get a chance to ask Flex what he thought of it all.
I found Michael to be very engaging. He was quite fun-loving on our set, yet he really knew his job. He didn't need or like a lot of fuss, which is good since on a low-budget picture, there's not much fuss to go around. He laughed at my jokes, what more can a comedic writer want!
