Milestone 'NCIS' Hits Close to Home for Tonyby Matt Webb Mitovich Dec 14th, 2009 | 6:43 PM This just in – exclusive intel on the heretofore top-secret 150th episode of CBS powerhouse 'NCIS.' Set to air January 12 – the hit drama's second episode of the new year – "Flesh and Bone" finds Gibbs & Co. looking into the attempted assassination of a foreign prince. The high-profile investigation, however, hits too close to home for one NCIS agent: Tony DiNozzo, whose father winds up linked to the case. Cue guest star Robert Wagner ['Hart to Hart'], playing Daddy DiNozzo. Were it not bad enough for Tony to learn that his father has ties to the investigation, it's not exactly "happy to see me" when the most unexpected circumstances reunite the men. As Rocky Carroll [aka Director Vance] told me during a new Q&A, "You find out that there's a strained relationship between the two." The casting of Wagner as dad to Michael Weatherly "is pretty perfect," Carroll says, echoing many an 'NCIS' fan. He then adds with a chuckle, "I think Michael was a bit star-struck that he got to work opposite Robert Wagner." Also guest-starring in the milestone episode is Penny Johnson Jerald, reprising her role as State Department Official Joanne Torrence. After all, you can never go wrong with an added shot of '24's' original Lady Macbeth. The significance of lasting 150 episodes is not lost on Carroll, who is a veteran of several TV series. "It's just crazy," he marvels. "I always joke with Mark Harmon, 'Hey, we could go on as long as 'Gunsmoke'! And he just looks at me and rolls his eyes." The final 'NCIS' episode of 2009 airs this Tuesday at 8/7c, followed by a fresh 'NCIS: Los Angeles.' www.fancast.com/blogs/ncis/milestone-ncis-hits-close-to-home-for-tony/?cmpid=FCST_tvnews

NCIS: Get Ready for a Family Affair Dec 15, 2009 01:12 PM ET
On Tuesday's holiday episode of NCIS, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will get a special visit from his father (guest star Ralph Waite), and the family connections won't stop there.
Check out photos of the NCIS cast
Waite, 81, first visited the CBS hit procedural in Season 6. This time around, he will exhibit some unusual behavior that leaves Gibbs perplexed as he and the team investigate the possible hate-crime killing of the son of a retired colonel turned preacher.
Even though the episode has Christmas themes, Rocky Carroll warns that it's not exactly a heartwarming hour. "Gibbs is still coming to terms with his dad," Carroll tells TVGuide.com. "We'll get a little more sense of their relationship, but we'll never get warm and fuzzy because that's not who Gibbs is. But the fans will get what they want."
Carroll says fans will continue to see more of the family lives of their favorite characters in the second half of the season. Robert Wagner, for example, will join the cast in the series' 150th episode on Jan. 12 as the father of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).
NCIS: Robert Wagner to play Tony's dad
"There's been a real emphasis and a focus towards family and family ties for all the characters," Carroll says. "We're going to see DiNozzo's family, and after 7 seasons, it sort of warrants that. You get to know somebody for a while, [and] you want to meet their family. I think in a sense, this season we're taking our audience home to meet the folks."
But the family focus won't completely rewrite the show's DNA. "The star of NCIS is the agency," Carroll says. "It is the thing that makes [the show] work. That has always been the mantra, and it will never get too far away from the actual operations. Family is something we're going to touch, but ... there's always going to be a death investigation and a bad guy to bring to justice. We just like these characters so much that we want to see the other people on the periphery of their lives."
But the operations could always lead to more family stories, particularly with Ziva (Cote de Pablo), whose father is the head of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. "Ziva is caught in the middle between her family relationships and her extended family at NCIS," Carroll says. "There's still going to be some international tension between the NCIS and Mossad. That's still going to be addressed, and I think it's the tip of the iceberg."

The irony, however, is that Carroll's character, Director Leon Vance, is a family man whose wife and kids have been featured in the show. Carroll hints that instead of exploring his relationships at home, the writers are looking for opportunities to reveal more of Vance's back story.
"[Vance is] sort of a wildcard," Carroll says. "It's not essential to the success of NCIS that Vance's character be an open book. The air of mystery is the thing that makes the dynamic work between Vance and Gibbs. We're going to keep trying to have that going as long as we possibly can. Audiences are slightly off-balance with this character, and that's what we're going for.".

Robert Wagner won't be the only onetime TV heartthrob turning up in NCIS' 150th episode, "Flesh and Bone," airing on CBS January 12. As previously revealed, the Hart to Hart star will guest as Anthony DiNozzo, Sr., father of Tony (Michael Weatherly). He'll get involved with a case concerning an assassination plot against a prince (Amir Arison). The elder DiNozzo's link will cause Gibbs (Mark Harmon) to doubt whether Tony can remain impartial in the investigation. Turns out the prince is enrolled in a U.S. military flight training program, and his teacher, Lt. Cmdr. Rob Clarke, will be played by Joe Lando, tvguidemagazine.com has learned exclusively. Best known for his 1993-1998 run as long-maned frontiersman Byron Sully on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Lando lost his flowing locks long ago. Good thing, since a mullet wouldn't cut it in the Marines. www.tvguidemagazine.com/ncis/exclusive-dr-quinn-vet-checks-into-ncis-3546.html

Question: The latest we’ve heard about Tony and Ziva on NCIS is Shane Brennan stating that their relationship will remain status quo. Please tell me they’re not ending Tiva? —Jamie Ausiello: Strange. That seems to contradict what I’m hearing. According to my hairy NCIS mole, the Jan. 26 episode finds Tony and Ziva hopping a plane to the City of Love. That’s right, Tiva takes on Paris! And would you believe the hotel screws up their reservation and they end up sharing a room together? What are the odds?!

This one seems fairly specific and it corroborates other reports of the two of them slipping away to Europe. I'm going to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
