Since Tony's dad will be making an appearance in a couple months, I'm running out of time to continue to believe a little fantasy I've been holding onto since I first started watching NCIS. (and poor Mari has heard this so she can plug her ears... ) From the sprinkling of lines we've been given on the show over the years, the general consensus is that Tony was (and still is) disowned by his father, has family issues, all that. Gibbs has commented on a couple of them. Fanfic writers have gone crazy with the idea, taking every story Tony ever told and making him be the angst-ridden, mentally abused poor little rich boy. My fantasy? Nearly everything he's said is just a tall tale he invented, and he has a fairly normal (but geographically distant) relationship with his father. I imagine the wealthy family part is true; and I think anything Gibbs has said is true (he or NCIS would have vetted anyone who joined NCIS & his team, so they might have learned some basics.) But I liked to think that Tony might have invented much of his background (like the story that his dad left him behind at a hotel in Hawaii for a week or so), not because of some angsty terrible childhood he's trying to hide, but more to entertain himself, to entertain the people he's telling, maybe even to punch up a fairly pleasant but bland life before he became a cop... I know there's no way this is what we'll see, so my little pretend world is going to be gone soon. But wouldn't that be great? All this time they think Tony had some tyranical, mean, abusive dad, and he turns out to be just a nice, normal, unexciting guy... and instead of a dramatic, attention worthy upbringing, it was ho-hum and completely unnoteworthy -- and wouldn't Tony want to punch that up a bit! (just wanted to get all that off my chest while there's still the tiniest possibility that it's actually what is going on with DiNozzo! )

That would be kind of interesting and amusing. My personal hope for Tony Sr. is that he brings Jr. back into the family. I was realy really hoping in South by Southwest, or whatever they called that episode where he nearly got the inheritance, that he had actually gotten it. I think at that point Tony was just starting to grow up and consider a more settled lifestyle and the money would have further pushed his reexamining of his life in a way that would have been interesting to see. Personally I think that even if Tony got his trust fund back he'd still stick with NCIS because he loves his job, its his personal life that would change and I'd be curious to see what he'd do.

Ah, the Gibbs theory. ;D (Which makes total sense as a limit to fantasizing) But yeah, why should every character have this tragic, unusual background… and I can see Tony starting a story, watching for reactions and adding details over time. Or hey, under that premise, what if he kept exaggerating stories about his father to evade talking about his mother and her death? (Or did he talk more about that and I missed?) Because that would be more personal? I know there's no way this is what we'll see, so my little pretend world is going to be gone soon. One word: Fic. (Oh and just half-watching the flying boat episode….) Personally I think that even if Tony got his trust fund back he'd still stick with NCIS because he loves his job, its his personal life that would change and I'd be curious to see what he'd do. I agree that he would stay with NCIS… but then how much could he change in his private life, especially since he seems to spend most of his time at work anyway? Buy a bigger car? He is apparently already spending money on his clothes, so…

NCIS Christmas Preview By William Keck November 30, 2009 09:11 AM EST Christmas arrives on both NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles on Dec. 15. As an early holiday gift to fans, the franchise’s executive producer, Shane 'Santa' Brennan, has dropped a sleigh-load of 2010 scoops down my chimney. The most exciting tidbit: after a longgg dry spell, Mark Harmon’s Agent Gibbs is finally going to have someone to kiss in the new year! So hang up that mistletoe. “It’s snowing for our nostalgic Christmas episode on NCIS, with Agents Gibbs, DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and McGee (Sean Murray) all involved in personal stories,” previews the EP. “For Gibbs, it’s the return of his father (Ralph Waite), who has a secret. Something’s clearly wrong, and what is discussed will offer insight into the way Gibbs lives his own life.” Along those same lines, in January, DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) will learn an unexpected truth about the way his dad, Anthony Sr. (Robert Wagner), made a living. But don’t expect DiNozzo to receive much comfort from Ziva (Cote de Pablo), as their relationship will remain “status quo,” says Brennan. “There won’t be any long-term arcs for these two.” tvguidemagazine.com/kecks-exclusives/ncis-christmas-preview-3370.html

Any scoop on NCIS ? — Asif ADAM : Rena Sofer 's possibly recurring guest role begins in the first post-holiday episode (Tuesday, Jan. 5). She plays Margaret Allison Hart, a hard-nosed attorney with an ax to grind against Gibbs. She'llcross paths with the team when her client is suspected in the death of a Navy pilot. And since it's the holiday season, a bonus tease for Tiva 'shippers: Tony and Ziva will take a trip overseas together. www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/413067_tvgif8.html

...okay, I read this when Michele posted it, and was immediately bummed. Up til then I had figured out this much of my own sad little head: a) I think that I do want to see TIVA develop on the show, but not plastered all over the eps, just some glimpses of a growing connection -- dare I hope for an intelligent, adult sort of relationship? They could easily weave in suggestions of something going on with them during the off-hours; a shared look or private joke or something every so often would be nice (something discussed here before, I think). Real life feel; low-key, ya know? b) I don't want anything really anti-TIVA to occur, cos I really didn't like the eps in which they were discussing one or the other of them gettin' it on with a third person (Ziva discussing Jeanne, even when she didn't know who she was; Tony talking about the dead man walking or about the killer-suspect she slept with or, heaven knows, Michael). It just made me uncomfortable. (geez, how addicted is that? ) c) No matter what they do, I think they may need to let something happen soon, either they hook up off-camera or end it completely even before it's begin, because they're both young and hot and if the writers essentially treat them as being celibate for much longer, they're going to have to write them as exploding soon (and we all know what a dud it was when they tried writing Tony as ... er ... having 'issues' ... ) Any scoop on NCIS ? — Asif ADAM : Rena Sofer 's possibly recurring guest role begins in the first post-holiday episode (Tuesday, Jan. 5). I know it took me forever, but I think I'm done believing anything they say ever again. (you note that I didn't break down and say I'm going to stop reading the stupid teasers... )

I've found it quite amusing watching you go through the process of accepting your enjoyment of Tiva Shywriter. At first it seemed like you had a very tacit interest in it, then your increasing involvement in the discussion and now you finally seem to have come to some sort of acceptance phase.

(again! ;D) (now, the writers would only come to terms with it too!! )

Speaking of psychological experiments, I feel like one when this makes me think unthinkingly of cousin Logan waiting for Tony... ( ;D)
