First time posting...but I had to register just to defend alec. Yes...he's my favorite character but that doesn't make me blinded by his machinations. (And no I'm not a M/A or M/L shipper!). That said, I think that alec has grown tremendously from his first appearance in DT to FN. I think he went from an immature, self-centered and self-interested person (probably b/c of Manticore...I saw the same development with Max in season 1) to somebody who actually began to care about somebody other than himself. I saw some of that in alec as early as PoP and Two and his committment to others continued to grow with each episode. Yep...he screws up...but geez...to call him less than a human...y'all are a tough crowd. alec isn't a saint but I hope the writer's stay true to the development that was started in Season 3 with this character as well as all of the other characters. I have a lot more to say about Episode 1 but I will close by saying that I lurked around this board and from what I read I expected VS3 to be just about M/L while ignoring that there were actually other characters on DA. I know that may be what some people want but thank you having the courage to write for other characters. P.S. And I'm glad Mole is still around...I like him.

Welcome Dani ;D
Just for the record, I for one don't hate alec. And the goal of the VS3 is to try to stay true to the spirit of DA especially as put forth in S1, but including the good parts of Ep 2. So yes, you will be seeing alec around as well as Mole and Asha and lots of characters besides Max and Logan.
Glad you gave it a chance!

iluvaqt's a big alec fan! Thought I'd just mention that I love all of Dark Angel, I even like White (okay most aspects of him, his missing humanity is a major hurdle for me. At least I know he loves Ray) < that's one of his pluses. Okay. Reason for posting. Something new to me, I hope it hasn't been posted already... DATV thread for Labyrinth

Well, I finally re-read Labyrinth and I still enjoyed it. but I do think I figured out why it was somewhat emotionally unsatisfying which correlates to the comments about the Max/Logan relationship being resolved, so to speak, too fast.
I have always enjoyed their scenes whether there were arguing or plotting or just working together, as well as the affectionate scenes. I expected Logan to be angry when Max told him about the "alec-lie" and I wanted Max to say, "I love you" to him as soon as possible. So why was it "too fast". I think it was because the scenes were too short. The dialogue "came to a head" allmost immediately (climax) and the resolution (denouement) was also too short. It wasn't because I didn't want the scenes or because I didn't want the issues to be settled in the first episode. The scenes were just too short to be savored, and I was left feeling emotionally unsatisfied. Waiting so long and ... puff ... it's over in no time!
Which is not to say that I could have written it any better and it is just my reaction.
To comment re: alec. I, too, have seen him mature and expect him to grow as a character. Though Logan's reaction to alec after he learned that Max had used alec as a foil was not particularly the usual way that Logan reacted to situations -- it certainly was typically male. Logan needed to vent his feelings on somebody and having walked away from Max, alec was a natural target. I also thought that alec's reaction as "Now, what did I do?" as well as his shrugging it off because there was nothing he could to -- was perfect.
Looking forward to Dec. 2.

Hm...it way past New Year for me, just came back from a party, so forgive me if i put this reply in the wrong thread. but I had to post. Wanted to read a page or two before going to bed for the day and came across Star's Three Strikes. Wow! Never thought of Logan that way (though I probably should have). There's some amazing insight on my favorite character there. And it helps a lot to understand Cat Scratch Fever, too. It made me cringe at the thought of Logan's pain (come on, it's fiction, ok? ;D -plus, it met one of my first criteria for reading fic, i.e.getting the reader to feel with the characters) and all i can say (besides kudos to the writer) is: OMG, it was inevitable that 2 such emotionally disfunctional people (M&L, both terribly insecure and craving love without knowing it) met and fell in love. Only now they both have to wake up, or they're in for some trouble. Well, they are already in it, but how do they get out, that is the question. Absolutely loved the image of Max, the cat burglar, sneaking under, over or through ... ouch, I might give away too much.... Go read. Melting, cringing and sniffing at the same time. Happy New Year!

I just read "Three Strikes". It was good, wasn't it? Mindful of Logan's previous "dumpings" (the family business was never really explained in the TV series, but Daphne and Valerie were), I can still feel the pain he must have felt when Max cut him off so coldly with the "alec lie". I still need some "emotiional rehabilitation" to warm up to Max again and "forgive her". What she did was just so cold.
Which doesn't mean that I am not enjoying Season 3. I just feel so cheated that this TVJ series was never finished. Oh, well ....
