Back to the streaming freedom eyes only hack: Instead of "the only free voice", could we be the "many voices of DA fans" or something similar?

Good idea Ginny!
How is this?
Draft Script #3 for: “Eyes-Only cable hack email”
We see the “Streaming Freedom” banner of Eyes-only
Voice:
Do not attempt to adjust your set. This is a streaming freedom video bulletin. This cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds and is meant for you James Cameron. It cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped and it is from the many voices of Dark Angel fans around the world.
For six months, Dark Angel fans have raised money, made phone calls and written letters. Mr. Cameron - you are lucky and Dark Angel is lucky to have fans who cares so much.
Mr. Cameron - There is a way to get Dark Angel out of Terminal City.
Imagine, a conclusion told in animation! No cast. No sets. No TV Network. Industrial Velvet has the technology! You could sell the Dark Angel conclusion on a “Pay-per-View” basis. The conclusion could be downloaded to their computers! No DVDs to burn and mail. No phone operators to take orders.
Isn’t it time to take responsibility for us?
This has been a streaming freedom video bulletin...via the Eyes Only informant net. Peace...out.
Ok everybody - tell me what you think of #3!

Yikes! Draft #3 really stunk!
Ok, let's try Draft #4: This version still has the "animation" idea in it - Draft #5 does not. Please tell me which you like better and if there is anything to make it sound better!

One quick thing about the Eyes Only message. Earlier it was said that we all download the video and then e-mail it to JC/Industrial Velvet. Since this video is gonna be at least 2 megs (at the smallest possibility) wouldn't that be considered SPAM if we ALL e-mail it. Wouldn't it be better for just one of us to send it? The last thing any of us wants to do is piss off the people that are our main hope of getting DA back.
Also, to show how many poeple we have backing this, we could do a fast run listing of names at the end of the Eyes Only broadcast. It wouldn't have to be at a speed for anyone to read the names but slow enough so they can appreciate how long the list is. A petition of sorts.
Anyways, that's my two cents.
(edited to add) One last thing, the script says 'no cast' as an incentive for the animated series. What about the voice actors? Wouldn't they be considered as cast? I know Jessica said in an interview about her doing the voice for the game that while it wasn't as physically hard as acting on the show that it was harder as an actor cause she had to make the voice seem more alive since she couldn't use facial expressions.

Good suggestions X5-442! Thanks! Here's Draft 6: (with Animation idea) Draft Script #4 for: “Eyes-Only cable hack email” We see the “Streaming Freedom” banner of Eyes-only Voice: Do not attempt to adjust your set. This is a streaming freedom video bulletin. This cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds. It cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped and it is from the many voices of Dark Angel fans around the world. Ok everybody - tell me what you think of #6! Also, I don't know what constitutes "SPAM" and what doesn't... On one hand if this is "SPAM" then we do run the risk of pissing JC off. In which case - your idea of sending it once with everybody signing on at the end or even on another attached word document is the perfect solution. On the other hand, this will be going to an office with some sort of an Administrative Assistant who screens the mail and the email and then gives a summary to her boss - who hopefully is JC. Most likely this email will go through several administrative layers before it gets to JC. In which case this email has to be "eye catching." Personally, I think that the people in the office at Industrial Velvet will get a "KICK OUT OF THIS!" What does everyone else think?

I haven't timed it - it may be longer than 60 seconds. Also, when Logan's lair was traced, when he signed off that time I believe he said, "Stay strong in the struggle." Could we paraphrase that also: we're staying strong in our struggle ... or ... this campaign.
I'm not a fan of animation - but I sure would want to see it esp. it that is all we can get. I'm also "cheap" - pay per view is not one of my favorites ---- yet I'm buying Dark Angel stuff such as that book anyway.
I like the "take responsibility for Dark Angel" bit.
I need to get a life! But I re-watch my tapes and .... this program was really good. Better than anything else currently on.

It would be way weird, and with the change of medium, I'm sure that they would want to change a lot of other things too, and the "feel" of the show, what drew us to it in the first place, would be warped beyond recognition.

Exactly. Dark Angel was not meant to be an animated show and further more, James Cameron has not even mentioned this idea, while he has mentioned the idea of a TV movie.
TV movies are also much easier to make, do you have any idea how long an animation would take? The average Dark Angel episode takes 8 days to film, with a movie it might be a month or two.
Animation also does not draw a large audience, many people will turn the show down without Jessica Alba in real life.

i guess u guys r right-i would definitely want the real thing over the animated version. but since its animation there are endless possibilities and resources that can be utilized that they could never be used or done on the show. yes, it may be a turn off to some-but it may draw in a new audience of fans in, etc. at least it should be a consideration- so #1 movies #2 mini-series #3 animated movie #4 more books, etc? that sounds good right? I think the script pretty much sums everything we want to get across to Cameron with Industrial Velvet--and i love the take responsibility part!

As I've said before, I love how you are all so interested in saving Dark Angel. I think with Fox doing so bad (ie Girls Club and Firefly) we should continue mailing letters to continue the series. Yes, I mean a Season 3. I couldn't stand to have just one movie. It wouldn't be long enough to help us understand all the characters and their universe. I mean if we had to settle for that then I'd be ok. There's some saying that goes: Reach for the stars. If you miss you'll hit the moon. Or something like that. But my point is, let's aim for S3, and if we can't get it will aim for a movie.

Hy people, No time yet for a full review of Loscon. I'll probably post it elsewhere - maybe extropy.org and also the lasfs.org message line, and link to it. Here's another little taste: Loscon on Friday was dynamite! I got in kind of late as I had scheduled a ride who got stuck in a doctor's office and couldn't reach me. The few panel discussions I took in were ok, but nothing to write about. I figured that the parties would make or break the day. However, that night had some special entertainment scheduled - luxtheater.com/indexlad.html. My impression from previous Loscons had been that the fannish theatre groups were kind of amateurish and corny, so I found myself instead playing around with a Vectron in the main concourse - a remote controlled flying saucer with one of those LED programmable displays. It was Way Cool! So, I missed the intros and the first 15 minutes or so of the Lux Theater presentation. I am SO glad I didn't miss any more. I had been in the main auditorium prior to the play for the ice cream social - as in home-made French vanilla made instantly on the spot using a dewar of liquid nitrogen. To die for.... There, I had noticed some somewhat odd behavior - even for a con. There were these women in various costumes looking like they came from a futuristic CanCan line, and they were wondering among the ice cream crowd "doing the dirty" with various males. Little did I realize that they were priming the audience for what was coming. They basically took the Moolan Rouge plot, put it on a space station and added a few comic and philosophical twists, and it was ANYTHING BUT corny or amateurish. They could easilly have taken it right on Broadway - where it would definitely have been a hit. Only problem is they did kind of "borrow" a lot of music themes - usually for comic effect. Often, after introductory dialog, the scene would break up into three or more actors all singing separate parts collaged from popular music. The singing was perfectly done and perfectly synced so that the different lines and melodies wove themselves around and around each other right up to one stunning climax after another. I kid you not - and I am not really into live acting - this was worth the ticket and the drive all by itself. Later that night, I found myself in what became a two-hour discussion of a whole lot of things - including Dark Angel and how to save it - with Jonathon Vos Post, one of the luminaries of the real space program as well as a major author, and a co-originator of both nano-technology and Xanadu - the huge software project that created the infrastructure of the web. More on this later. Here's my parting thought for the night: You may recall my mention of Blender as a successful example of user buyouts. Blender is free - at Blender.org. The source code is available and you or anyone can modify it. Check out some of the demo animations done with Blender. One guy has a whole site dedicated to Babylon V, with models and animations galore from the show - all done with Blender. I.e., it may be quite possible to do the animations or build the models at least at home. We already have people writing scripts on this site. If you have any idea of getting into animation professionally, here's your chance. Blender is a pretty good direct replacement for the top rung animation package - 3D Studio Max. But Studio Max is about $3,000, last time I checked. Blender is totally free. Check it out. Later.

Oh, and Jonathon Vos Post's son has a site - altho it looks a bit out of date (1997) - Andrew Carmicheal Post is 13 now and attending UCLA, if I recall correctly. Anyway, a true whiz kid. Wish I had had more time to talk with him as well. Check this out: www.magicdragon.com/Gruesome/So, whiz kids anonymous, X7's et al ... no ageism here! Take this job over and show us what you can do...
