ok. sorry but im not familiar with the Known Space thread but that idea does sound good connecting all of us together(so they post their names and emails and we establish how many there are of us?) and the idea to get advertisments is great too! getting ourselves out there to other people is definitely doable. (to clear things up-how exactly does that work? $6.99 for 50,000 ads like banners and stuff to appear on ebay and google?) Also, with the broadcast-if u can distort the voice i guess it doesnt matter if its a girl/boy whose recording it right? its good enough i guess. 40 secs of recording per file? that sucks. if only we could get more people into this.

What are we going to do with this streaming freedom video?
Where would we air it?

Hey Jeiara,
I agree with you and everyone else that we would prefer a real season 3 or a mini-series or a movie. The only way we will get the people in TV land and/or James Cameron at Industrial Velvet to do a film version of Dark Angel is to convince them that they will make a profit by doing so. You see, if all boils down to money and they owe their souls to their company “shareholders” and with the stock market the way it is right now companies in the entertainment business are forced to go with the cheapest “Formula” scripts that they can get away with so that they can keep paying their shareholders dividends…
So, it is our job to convince them that filming a Dark Angel season 3 or mini-series or movie would be profitable.
How do we do that? By taking several baby steps:
1. We buy Dark Angel merchandise. Books, DVD’s and etc. 2. We nag the FOX advertisers that FOX did them “wrong” by canceling Dark Angel and ask them to help us get FOX to do two things: a) air re-runs and b) give us a conclusion. 3. We nag FOX into airing re-runs of Dark Angel and/or give us a conclusion so that the sale of the above items #1 continue to grow. 4. We nag James Cameron into giving us an animated conclusion to Dark Angel. Because: a) he owes it to us and b) he can make “easy money” from us.
Now if we are very lucky, we can convince the bean counters at FOX that they can make money from airing re-runs of Dark Angel. How do we do this? By putting pressure on the advertisers who put pressure on FOX. Since re-runs tend to get new fans the sales of Dark Angel merchandise will get stimulated and since FOX co-owns the rights to Dark Angel they will make money from us fans (old and new) as well as the advertisers by airing re-runs.
Meanwhile, if we are very very lucky, we can get James Cameron to produce a season 3 or a conclusion to Dark Angel via animation. Why animation - because it is cheap and easy. Remember, James Cameron owes his “shareholders” a certain amount of profitability or they sell their stock in his current projects and his business goes “toes - up.” BUT - if he can make money from us cheap enough and easy enough he just might consider taking the chance on gambling on making money off of our loyalty to Dark Angel.
Finally, if we are very very very lucky, in a couple of years - let’s say 2 years at least. We will prove to everyone with the money and power involved that a Dark Angel movie or mini-series or season 3 is a profitable venture and then we will finally get what we want.
There are no quick fixes here.
And - money does make the world go ’round. It doesn’t matter if we like it or not…
So, Jeiara - that’s why I’m pushing for an animation from James Cameron. I just think our “odds” for success are greatest this way.
Besides, look at this way - We already have survived 6 months of this campaign and it hasn’t been that bad has it? I’ve enjoyed meeting lots of new people and writing my letters!

I don't know if anyone has come up with this before, but what if we flood a comic company like Marvel or something with letters asking them to do a Dark Angel Comic book series. Lots of shows (even those that had been cancelled or not too popular) have thier own comic series.

Hey Jeiara!
Thank you for the info on how long the script was! Wow! I had no idea how little a person can say in 60 seconds.
Here is Draft Script #2:
Draft Script #2 for: “Eyes-Only cable hack email”
We see the “Streaming Freedom” banner of Eyes-only
Voice:
Do not attempt to adjust your set. This is a streaming freedom video bulletin. This cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds and is meant for you James Cameron. It cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped and it is the only free voice left in the city.
For six months now, since we fled to Terminal City, our friends have raised money, made phone calls and written letters. Mr. Cameron - you are lucky and we are lucky to have friends who cares so much about us.
Mr. Cameron - There is a way out of Terminal City.
Imagine, a conclusion told in animation! No cast. No sets. No TV Network. Industrial Velvet has the technology! You could sell our conclusion on a “Pay-per-View” basis. Our conclusion could be downloaded to their computers! No DVDs to burn and mail. No phone operators to take orders.
Isn’t it time to take responsibility for us?
This has been a streaming freedom video bulletin...via the Eyes Only informant net. Peace...out.
What does everybody think?

Hey Stargurl,
The idea behind the Streaming Freedom video is for us DA fans to make a request targeted at just James Cameron.
In this video, "Eye-Only" is broadcasting to James Cameron and asking Mr. Cameron to make a conclusion to DA.
So, once this video is made we will post it here. Then, all of us fans will copy it off from this site and email it to Industrial Velvet.
Imagine, getting bombarded by thousands of copies of Eyes-Only asking for a conclusion! It should help bring attention to our campaign!

Thanks for explaining it mjwilla! Sounds like a great idea to me.
About the script just posted, I think it needs to be worked on a little more (there r some grammatical errors) but over all it's a great start!

Hey X5-442!
That is an Awesome idea! Does anyone know how to contact the comic books? Perhaps we could add them to our "Mail Campaign"... Just think, if James Cameron could make money off of selling DA merchandise, DVDs, animations, games, and comics he just might be convinced that a movie would make him money too!

Thanks Stargurl!
Can you help me with the grammer?
The script is 60 seconds long when I read it out load at a normal speaking rate.
Jeiara says that every 15 words takes 10 seconds to read and that seems to be about as fast as I read.
So, remember, when you are fixing the grammer we have to keep the word count at about the same as it is now...
Please help me with the grammer!

Okay, here is some info/addresses on submitting ideas to comic companies. Marvel Enterprises, Inc. 10 East 40th St., 10th floor New York, NY 10016 image comicsdark horse comicsI checked out DC Comics but they don't take submissoins at all. Marvel didn't seem too open to the idea either, they are looking more for people to make the comics rather than ideas for new ones. But Image's and Dark Horse's web pages seemed very open to new ideas. So I think our best shot might be those two companies. By the way - Loved the script. Too bad we can't tap into his cable line and play it on his TV. Now that would be priceless. Actually I know a couple of people that could do it if anyone knows where he lives. And as a side note, did anyone else notice that the stuff Fox is auctioning off from the show are things that are not really needed in the show anymore? In a way that's kinda a good sign. Just for S&Gs tho, I sent off an e-mail to the seller via E-bay asking if that meant that there was a slim chance of DA coming back someday. I doubt I'll get an answer tho.

Hey X5-442!
Very cool info on the comic book idea!
So, what do we do next?
1. Do we all need to write Dark Horse and Image requesting that they do a Dark Angel comic?
2. Would either or both of these comic books need writers for a DA comic? Would they be interested in our Virtual Season 3 writers' scripts that they have writtern? Would our Virtual Season 3 writers want their scripts published as a comic?
3. Does FOX and James Cameron have to give their permission?
How do we get the ball rolling?

Recovering from Loscon.... Got in 4AM this morning.
I didn't run into any DA fans who had come to Loscon because of this thread, unfortunately, but I did find a table run by the Save Farscape group. I discussed the various issues with them at some length. I gather that a lot of the Farscape fans were also DA fans, so we have that going for us in terms of any kind of joint or coordinated effort.
I would much prefer live actors, but, reading some of the new episodes written by the team here, I have to agree that animation is sure better than nothing. Also, you can do things with an animation that you can't easilly do in real life - even with CGI.
On that note, I have two comments: First, mj, I'm not sure that specifying one mode over another in the proposed "eyes-only" piece is a good idea. If Cameron is seriously interested, then he will be talking to us, and that can be one option on the table. He may feel like he's being restricted if that's all you suggest.
Meantime, there's sure nothing wrong with suggesting an animation as a secondary alternative to him in your letters. Clearly he will not see that as an option if he feels that the fans will not buy the product. So, let's make sure he knows that we would buy it if it comes to that.
"Sea Quest," bad as it was, used a whole room full of ancient Amiga 1000's, all networked, running Lightwave to do their CGI rendering. I think they were reported to have paid $20 a piece for the A1000s, as nobody else wanted them.
Second, there are networking protocols out there being used in projects like SETI and the protien folding effort, in which tens of thousands or millions of home and business computer users let their machines work on pieces of problems, like looking for signals from aliens in the date from SETI, or working through the math on the protein. Not sure that Cameron would have any use for this, but my thought is that DA fans could contribute to the animation effort - or CGI in general - in the same way. Just a thought.
Farscape already has a discussion group focused on buying the program, I found out at Loscon. I will track that down shortly.
Keep the faith.
Phil

The 'SETI' idea is good. I got that program myself. Only pro is, the way it works is that you download the program and the signals and then while your off-line your computer does the computing, then when you've finished the downloaded signals it uploads them to the main server. I'm not sure if the technology could be used for a massive processor for the CGI. If it could then that could deffinately be used as a bargining chip with JC.

mjwillia You got a good idea with the Eyes Only Hack. The script is basically acceptable, however the idea of animation is a little premature. Personally I would hope that we would stress the desire for a 3rd season or a feature movie before we resort to the animation suggestion. If we use the idea of animation, and we do get some reaction from Cameron, he will probably tell us to read the novels that are coming out. By the way Cameron was interviewed on the Inside Entertainment show Sat Night and repeated today about the movie Solaris starring George Clooney the show runs on the Global Network in Canada but I only caught the final 20 seconds I going to see if I can get some information on the interview.

Hey Phil - Hey Uncle Gordo,
Yes, the animation idea may be premature. I was just figuring that for six months now we all have been writing FOX and James Cameron asking for a movie or mini-series or a season 3 so he knows we would be happy with any of these products if he chose to do one.
From what I read in the Farscape interviews with David Kemper is that all three of the above options are very expensive and that no corporation is going to commit to an investment of any magnitude without a guarantee of making a profit.
So, then I figured that Phil is right. If we could organize ourselves and raise the money to buy the software we could make our own animated season 3.
But, then I fugured - hey, what if Industrial Velvet made the animated season 3?! They already have the people-power and the investment would not be that much for them as compared to us trying to raise the money and figure out who would be responsible for production issues...
So, that's were I am coming from with this whole idea of asking James Cameron do to the animation.
This script isn't written in stone. We sure can change our request to just asking for any kind of a conclusion. I am more than willing to change the script!
But, I think if we do that - then James Cameron is just going to say to his secretary: "Are these people nuts? Don't they know that this will cost me millions of Dollars?" On the other hand, if he listens to this Eye-Only email, he might say: "Um, for a $200,000 dollar investment I could make $1,000,000 and with very little hassle."
Give it some thought. If you want me to change the script I'll sure do it.
