Keep talking - how many of you have your letters out to Jim Cameron for the 15th?
Or are planning on emailing?

I posted the bulk of mine on Sunday so I'm guessing that they will get from New Zealand to America in time.

lasfs.org, not .com - sorry, sorry... and, loscon.org... At the Burbank Hilton, Friday thru Sunday, Thanksgiving Weekend. If you're a con member - and, maybe if you're not - I think you can get a room there for $99 and up to four (4) people (officially, anyway... unofficially, who knows...). Loscon is usually a really dynamite sf con. I can't speak to this year, as I don't have any insider info. The usual stuff seems to be happening. Check out the site. Total price for the con itself - $45 at the door. They have daily rates and even - for a first, I believe - night events only rates of $10, altho if you just wanted to come to the parties and hang out, you wouldn't necessarilly even need to pay that. If you like the con this time, then the usual signup for next year is usually $20. And there will be a host of other cons represented there, generally with sign-up tables and "bid" parties, whose arcane workings I have spent much effort remaining ignorant of - but it's really mostly just an excuse to party until the wee hours... If you google around a bit, you can probably find sites listing a lot more sf cons, probably some in your area, maybe even on Thanksgiving. Loscon is kind of special, in that its run and based out of a large, long-standing sf club (world's oldest, in fact), and a LOT of big name authors, actors, etc. are lasfs members and will be there for the weekend. Couple things I forgot: Costuming: optional, but fun it you're into it. (SURELY you have a barcode? ) There is a costume contest on Saturday night as well as a best hall costume prize. Here's my main reason for pushing this: sf cons in general already have a base of organization to use for our effort. They will generally not be opposed to our effort either. A lot of groups join up with cons to pursue their own ends, and the cons are happy for the increased attendance and volunteers, if nothing else. Most cons will be happy - assuming they get contacted before the last 30 days, and even then, very possibly - to include programming on a subject if people want it. That gives us physical space to meet and organize and show videos, etc., and a tailor made audience, many of whom will already be DA fans. If we just stay online and physically disconnected, then eventually people will drift away and we won't get the job done. Right? So, look around, folks, scout out the con territory, pick tentative targets, and let's hear some reports from various other areas besides S. CA. This will be FUN!

Hi everybody!
I got reply from Levis and Home Depot today. Both said they would notify my concerns to the advertising campaign departments. The next step I am going to take is re-write the people who signed these replies and tell them how DA did better than 24 in the Tuesday time-slot and how DA did better than FF in the Friday time-slot. Then, I'm going to suggest that since their ads are getting less viewers they should negotiate lower prices for advertising with FOX during these time-slots.
Who knows, maybe FOX will lose money and start to listen up!

I found a web site with info on scf-fi cons around the country. Scifi-unitedHow about we put on a con? Might save some trouble. We could find out where would be the closest to the most of us and rent out a ballroom at a hotel or something. It shouldn't be a problem raising the money. All we would need to do is see if a few of the actors can show up. They don't have to be the main characters. Anyone know how to get ahold of any of the actors? Anyways, just an idea.

Thanks for reading them... Of course, they were from my somewhat focused perspective as a panelist on several panels at WesterCon - aka Congaree. I ended up Sat. night there hooked on Anime - stayed up until about 3AM watching this dynamite series of adventures starring some character by the name of Vass The Stampede. There was a LOT more happening than the little pieces I wrote about.
Whoever above this post that I can't see for the moment and only have a couple minutes to respond to anyway that suggested our own DA con (Max Con???), Right On! Sure we can do it, but to find out how and how much its going to cost you in time and effort, etc., you ought to get educated.
And THAT means, check out some of the con sites and if there's one happening near you, try to attend - if only to crash the Friday/Saturday night parties to meet people (and party). The closest thing to what we would likely be doing is the the B5 con - Agamemcon. Assuming that they're still rolling, they will probably be at Loscon selling memberships. But they can fill you in on what it takes to put on a con. They did it from scratch, so you can, too, right? My other point is more generally that the sf con market is thin enough compared to the number of DA fans, that we could move in and use it for our own goals - and they would be delighted in general for us to do that. They're ALWAYS looking for more attendees.
My goal is not a con as such but cons or whatever to get the show back - network, Scifi channel, DVD distribution, I don't care. I just want to see what Cameron had in mind for the rest of the series - DAMN it! The best show in years and those suits killed it... You'd think they would've learned SOMETHING from Star Trek....

One of those days..... Just spent 45 minutes writing a post here and didn't think about the fact that I had logged in for 30. So, I clicked "send" and then got a message that "guests" were not allowed to post. O'well. What was so important that I spent all that time? Trying to recall.... Couple things anyway: google on "filk." "Filk" was a typo in an sf fanzine from the dawn of fandom. Was supposed to read "folk," but it stuck. All over the world, sf fans meet in each other's living rooms as well as at sf cons to sing original sf or fantasy related songs. I'm guessing that some of the people on this list have some talent in that area. Usually filk songs have a guitar accompanyment and borrow scores from various folk, rock or ethnic ballads. There are a LOT of filk sites. If you have any song ideas and want to talk to the experts, bring them to Loscon. They'll be running the filk rooms all night. I called in to Digital Village, a Los Angeles radio show devoted to the net, today, and discussed the campaign to save Dark Angel. www.digitalvillage.org. I put it in a larger context of the threat to the net... We're about to lose askme.com, like we lost firefly.com (no relation to the Fox show). Askme lets you get advise for free from experts all over the world on any conceivable subject. It has rankings for the advisors, a search system for similar questions already asked and many other valuable features. But, many of the establishhed experts - lawyers, doctors, etc. - did not appreciate the fact that whiz kids, often 14 years old or so, could get higher rankings in their fields than they had. So it's on the way out. Firefly was an offshoot of MIT's Media Lab (i,e., taxpayer dollars). It took information from you as to what you liked, built a profile, and then used that info to match you to other people on just about any subject. So, what movies would you be likely to enjoy? What books? Which restaurants? Firefly could give you a good estimate, with about a million subscribers - until the Borg (aka MicroSoft) bought it and buried it. We are in serious danger of losing everything we gained via the Web. The concentrated interests know that if we realize that WE are paying for everything, that WE could take control, then they would be out of business - or doing business by a different model. So, the avenues of revolution that the Web offered us are being shut down here, in China, around the world. But, just imagine that we, the people, turned it all around.... Suppose we decided to emulate Max and take responsibility to fix our broken world? WE still have the real resources. Let's take the initiative before it's too late. We can BUY what should be ours. THEY should be serving US! Let's do it.

I agree with Philosborn. All our news-papers and broadcast-news is owned by just a few individuals/corporations - hence we only hear what they want us to hear and learn what they want us to learn. We currently are not that different from George Orwell's 1984. If you read the book you will remember how "THEY/Gov/Corporations" wrote and re-wrote the news to control how the "Masses/Us" thought and behaved. So far they haven't figured out how to control the "internet" but they will.
How do we fight them??
OK - Enough doom and gloom... I have a question....
Does anyone think it is possible to get James Cameron involved in a DA animie(sp) project? He could sure help us secure funding!

Hey everybody!
I found an article on the Save Farscape page referencing the "National Association for Minorities in Communications" (email: namicnewyork@aol.com) and how hiring freezes within various telecomunication companies are causing consolidation on minority hiring. I shot off an email to them describing the ethnic diversity on DA and how important it is to save shows like DA.
Maybe some of you would like to do the same!

Quick idea, soemone could do a fanart type of thing and incorperate quotes from several of the articles saying how much better DA did than FF. (there is a good one from the fouton critic on the fruitfly threat) Then everyone could print it out and send it in on the same day. A picture is a little harder to dismiss than a letter and grabs you attention better. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.
