star, i sure hope you're sending that out to people in high places, magazines, columnists etc. it's extremely well written. One thing though: I'm female but I don't think mw is the only reason i watch it, i love scifi in general and dark gloomy stuff anyway. note however, that refers to season 1. Haven't seen 2 yet so probably I#ll just fast forward to the logan scenes... Great job writing that!

Star
thanks so much for articulating so well just what I'm feeling - I feel better now that I read that. Please be sure to send that to as many magazine/fanzines or newspaper editors as you can.
I miss all the things you mentioned from the first season. I also miss the fun and complications of Max going into heat, and of seeing flashbacks to her childhood at manticore. I miss Zack, her fellow escapees and Herbal too. I loved seeing the day to day struggle of a transgenic soldier and her normal friends living in post pulse seattle and I liked the fact that the show was an ensemble cast with views into the lives of the other characters.
Hmmm...... I didn't enjoy the second season as much did I? ;O)
best
nevyn
ps maybe you could send your article to JC too so that if our campaign succeeds, he might get back the DA feel of the first season???

Wow. I'm blown away by the responses to my rant which was inspired btw by Fox's blocking of our emails. I wasn't really planning on sending it out but I guess I may have to now. Anyone have any particular place you want me to send it (especially our overseas members)- post an address and I'll work on it. Anyone who is a member on another board is welcome to share it but please credit me and put a link to this forum.

Hello Star I did a quick, wee search and found the following email addresses for contacting SF publications. Feel free not to use them if you don't think they will be appropriate or worthwhile to the campaign. interzone@cix.co.uk www.bsfa.co.uk/ - the british Science Fiction Association publish 6 magazines a year. Here's the email address bsfa@enterprise.net scifiweekly@scifi.com take care Nevyn

I feel exactly that way about the changes in season 2. I kept watching because I still preferred it to anything else on telly and I still liked it (Jensen Ackles helped) but I just found all the changes frustrating. I was annoyed that OC was downgraded to a bit part character because she was such a strong, sassy, funny and philosophical character in the first season. Normal and Sketchy were like cardboard cut out versions of their first season selves and the Logan and Max relationship felt stunted to me and I just wanted to knock their heads together. Altogether there was no fun element to the second season. I couldn't believe they got rid of Lydecker - he was a villain with complications and he was driven by his sense that he had been a good and positive factor in the lives of the Maticore children, he wasn't totally bad and cartoon-nasty like White (at times I expected White to be wearing a cape, top hat and twirling his moustache. The things I missed most of all were Max's messy, curly hair (the long hair was just ugh!, too girly and why couldn't she tie it back when fighting?) and that quilted gilet she wore for her cat burgling - I was just fond of them somehow. God I HATED those stupid transgenic plots too. It was like the writers were trying to see how wierd they could get in making up Manticore soldiers. And as for the Breeding Cult - NEXT PLEASE!!!! It's good to know I'm not alone in how I feel

You are definitely not alone.
Loved your letter Star24. It should be published and sent to all magazines and wannebe-network-executives. It definitely outlined how to ruin a good show.

I am in total agreement with the premise of boycotting the Fox Network. I have not watched that network since they announced the cancellation, except for the reruns of the Dark Angel. However most of the responsibility for the cancellation rests on the shoulders of James Cameron, lets face the fact that the second season was totally bogus compared to the first season. Cameron totally lost the focus of the series. I am seriously considering boycotting any future projects that Cameron might be involved with.

Fox has nothing to offer me anymore so I'm an ex-fox viewer as well, but I still respect James Cameron. He went through a lot of trouble to try and get DA signed on for another season (full-court press, promising the network a tv-movie or miniseries), and he did an amazing job turning the show back around with FN. He's a busy guy, being the King of the World and all , but once he realized where Echevarria was taking the show, he started to get more involved again (from my understanding, anyway). James Cameron and Charles Eglee were the ones to create the original premise of Dark Angel, which, as s1 proved, was amazing. Fox and maybe more specifically, Gail Berman, is at fault for the demise of DA in my books.
