I think that pretty well everyone agreed that the fall schedule of the Fox Network sucked big time, well the ratings are in for the 1st 3 weeks, the web site to obtain a complete list of the full range of shows is as follows. The number 40 refers to the 40th week of the year and changes with each exceeding week www.boxofficemojo.com/tv/2002.40.htmHere is the details for some Fox shows for the 1st 3 wks. Each rating point equals 1,022, 000 households, the first number is the show's ranking. Week One Sept. 16 to 22 2002 28 Bernie Mac Show 6.2 28 Cedric the Entertainer 6.2 32 Fast Lane 6.1 35 John Dow 6.0 38 70's Show 5.9 66 Firefly 4.0 Week Two Sept. 23 to 29 2002 51 70's Show 5.6 53 Fast Lane 5.4 60 Bernie Mac 4.9 60 Cedric 5.4 70 John Doe 4.4 78 Firefly 3.6 Week Three Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 2002 78 John Doe 4.1 6.62 viewers 89 Firefly 3.3 4.87 viewers Pre-empted Baseball Bernie Mac Cedric 70's Show As you probably know that the ABC network has already cancelled two series. I think over the next couple of weeks Fox are going to have to take some action with the dogs that they have, seeing that the corporate parent The News Corporation Limited was raked over the coals big time because of their most recent financial reports by their investors, and Fox was centred out because of their poor showings in the ratings for both last year and this and the fact that they are the bottom feeder of the top 4 networks. I think this might be a good time to go after Fox big time with our campaign, Berman is definitely on the hot seat and if we can get together and give her a push, she might be out the door before we know it. Personally I have not watched one Fox generated series whether it shows on their network or the other networks and I intend to continue that policy for the duration.

"fanciful fiction based on postulated scientific discovieries" I'm sorry but that about sums up DA in a nutshell for me. Many people would argue that Star Wars is not sci-fi but space opera instead, with more in common with Lord of the Rings than 2001. I guess what I'm trying to say is that is an outdated definition of sci-fi, space is definately NOT a prerequisite of sci-fi and on the flip side just because something is set in space doesn't automatically make it sci-fi either. Thanks for backing me up, LJ_Squared: that's exactly what i was try to say. For instance, is Apollo 13 sci fi? No. It's historical fiction, a biography of sorts. It's definitely about space travel. And then there's movies like V and Back to the Future, two of the greatest sci fi phenomenons of the 80s... Very little space travel in the first, and absolutely no space travel in the second, but they're both still sci fi. It's really encouraging to see those numbers on Fireflop (how fast it's falling down the charts). I watched the premiere and John Doe's premiere (the only two hours of Fox i've seen since "Freak Nation") and i had the hardest time trying to understand what was going on with Fruit fly. John Doe was alright, but not great (of course, it didn't hurt that there was sixty seconds of Bling!)... How many eps have they had, anyway? Sometimes i see a promo when i'm channel surfing and i just want to puke, Firefly looks so lame that i can't believe that it hasn't already crashed and burned! Anyway, i agree that we need to do something constructive, whether Fox has taken their head out of their--okay, i won't quote my father--or not. I've been trying to ignore all of this cuz it's really painful, but i watched "Freak Nation" the other night and it all came rushing back. I want to get this show back. I'm sorry that i don't have any ideas, but i'm willing to help fight...

I wonder whats up with John Doe stealing all the caracters of Dark Angel (except the lead characters of course). Anyways, i think u are right UncleGordo. We should strike while they are vulnerable. I think we should keep fondraising. Never stop. We should decide what for though. I thought that someone's idea of a huge billboard near Fox will be cool, and maybe a friendly protest kind of thing. Anyways, i also should think we should act, make our follow up obsolete. Sorry, the big word popped up in my head, so if it doesnt make sense, ignore it.

I think everyone was taking a bit of a break after the intensity of the campaign mailing and fund raising over the last few months.
I think now we should start doing some mailing of postcards again on a steady basis to let the movers and shakers know that the DA fans aren't going away and that there is still a strong audinece for a continuation of the story.
Maybe some new postcards? Any thoughts?

That's a great idea. I think we should set specific days to have them arrive a month. The message board on the fox site wanted to do the 28th of the month followed up by the 8th of the month. I'm not sure if anyone is actually doing that. So it's something to think about. But we really should start doing something soon. We can't let tptb think that we've given up after no response to the ad.

I think we need to target an individual "advertiser" on FOX each week like they are doing in the "Save Farscape Campaign" Look at the response KFC sent to the "Scapers" as a result of being targeted by their mailing campaign:
In response to our advertiser target in one of our recent To-Do lists, fans have been receiving this letter back from KFC. Thank you for your recent letter to our CMO, John Gilbert, on your passionate drive to keep Farscape on the air. We also appreciate your patronage to our restaurants!
We are Customer Maniacs here at KFC. As a media professional, I am also a Media Maniac and we are excited when a program like this finds a loyal audience. I just wanted to let you know that, per your request, I have contacted the UPN President of Sales to let him know of the response we received from the loyal viewers of Farscape. I communicated that KFC would continue to support the show if it did move to UPN.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We hope your efforts to keep your favorite show on the air produce positive results.
Melanie Dyer Associate Media Manager
Thank you KFC and thank you to all the 'Scapers who have been writing letters. It's only because of the tremendous response by you amazing fans that KFC took the step to contact UPN and show their support of Farscape. We know this is a money game ... imagine the effect being contacted by KFC on behalf of Farscape had on UPN. Keep up the fantastic work. Farscape fans are some of the most remarkable people out there and the people with the money are starting to realize how truly valuable you all are.
Could we get a list of current Advertisers and target one each week with postcards?

I would also suggest that our first target (although not an advertiser) be FOX's "Diversity Division." If you go to fox.com - then go to "links" - scoll down to the bottom and you will see that they have a whole division devoted to "diversity". We should target that division with a postcard showing the ethnic diversity that was on DA and ask them how if their mission is "Diversity" why did they cancel their most ethnically diverse show?

Oh, I am so glad to see you guys back here and plotting away!! I hadn't heard anything for so long, and I was starting to think that I was the only one doing anything anymore! But I kept on sending in those letters and postcards, and now it's time for everybody to start rocking the boat again. Keep us posted with what's next on the agenda . . .

One of the major advertisers ( as well as being one who used Jessica in their ad campaign) was L'Oreal - could be one to start with.

I was surfing the web sites of the Toronto Newspapers and came across an article from Sept 14, 2001 which I think is a bit interesting to say the least it is as follows Friday September 14, 2001 Cameron toys with 'Dark Angel' movie By JAM! TV "Titanic" director James Cameron may convert his TV series "Dark Angel" into a feature film, according to Cinescape.com. The report said Cameron is entertaining the idea of following the lead of "X-Files" and "Star Trek" and creating both feature film and TV versions of "Dark Angel." "I think if we have continued success with the series, there is a good possibility that we might want to make a film from it," Cameron told Cinescape. "I think we've got to see where the series goes. If we grow our fan base and we stay at least where we are and/or grow from where we are, I think that's a very good possibility." Cameron, whose resume includes "Abyss," the "Terminator" films, and "Aliens," said he relished the chance to give "Dark Angel" the resources afforded by feature films. "There's a lot of things that we can do in a feature environment that we don't have the budget for in a TV environment." This is the web site where I found it www.canoe.ca/JamTV/home.htmI think the suggestion of targeting the advertisers of the Dark Angel is an excellent idea. I am going to check my video tapes and get some of the advertisers who sponsored the series in Canada. I would hope that the American members do the same. I also think we should again target some the media outlets who have published articles about the Dark Angel and Jessica in the past. There are two columnists at canoe.ca who have written articles in the past on the series and I would hope that the Canadian fans target them for letters advising them of our renewal campaign,we have to re-energize our campaign because as of now it is dead in the water. Here are the columnists' web site Bill Brioux - Toronto Sun 2 articles July 31,2000, July 19, 2001 his web site is www.canoe.ca/JamColumnBrioux/Home.htmKevin Williamson - Calgary Sun 2 articles May 2, 2002. April 25, 2002 www.canoe.ca/JamColumnWilliamson/Home.htmJam TV 3 article May 9, 2001, Sept 14, 2001, March 14, 2002 www.canoe.ca/JamTV/home.htmLets get creative and come up with some ideas and actions that we spark some reaction.

Thanks for the article! Although Cameron "qualified" his intent on doing a movie as "depending on how well the TV series" does, it is worth a shot of nagging him to death about how we want a movie. Maybe, if we show enough "interest with staying power" he would persue a movie.
Since the beginning of the campaign I have compiled a "distribution" list for my email. (Like everyone else here.) I send a letter to everyone on this list EVERY DAY. Obsessive behavior I know. However, if we all do it (which I am sure most of us are) then, sooner or later someone is going to stop ignoring us and listen. It is a game of endurance and we have to out last them.
So here the plan I've been following:
1. Every Monday I send a "snail mail" to FOX. (No replies)
2. Every Day I send an email to my distribution list.
What I'm suggesting is in addition to the above is maybe we all could do this:
1. Once a week send a snail mail to FOX, Cameron, anyone else?
2. Once a week we pick an advertiser to bombard with emails and snail mail.
3. Every day we email all the different places with email addresses that we have posted through out this site.
What do you think?

Just to show that KFC's response to being a target of the "Save Farscape Campaign" was not a fluke read "Best Buy's" response to being a "Save Farscape Campaign" target as well!
There's also this one from Best Buy (provided directly to SFA by Karen Copp -- thanks kc!)
I received two letters today from Best Buy -- both the same, but still good:
"Thank you for contacting Best Buy's Corporate Headquarters regarding Farscape. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and to address your concern. I apologize I was not able to respond sooner; please allow me to do so now.
"On behalf of Best Buy, please allow me to apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this situation has caused you. I would like to thank you for making your concerns about the Sci-Fi program, "Farscape" known to Best Buy's corporate headquarters. Our company purchases broadcast time on a wide variety of television shows. Our purchase decisions focus heavily on the audiences reached by the various programs. We are concerned when one of our customers is moved enough to share his or her comments and suggestions with our Consumer Relations department. Please be assured your remarks have been heard and forwarded to the employees charged with making key advertising decisions for Best Buy. Your valuable input enables Best Buy to better evaluate the advertising vehicles we choose in the future.
"In closing, I would like to thank you again for taking the time to write. Your business is important to us and your comments are appreciated. We thank you for your patronage and look forward to having you back in a Best Buy store very soon!
"Lena Morris, Contact Center Representative, Best Buy Enterprise Customer Service."

Maybe if we target L'oreal and the other Fox Advertisers we will get the same kind of response!

When I posted the article dated Sept 14/01 in which Cameron mentioned the possibility of a movie of the Dark Angel if the series was successful well if you go back to the 1st season the series was definitely a success and considered by Newscorp the parent of Fox as their top dramatic adventure action series. It wasn't until Berman and Echevarra got involved with the shift to Friday night and the change in the theme of the series that the ratings dropped. It was Echevarra's influence that they played up the the existence of the transgenics and nomallies and freaks. On July 10/02 I posted that I considered that Echevarra was responsible for the eventual cancellation of the Dark Angel, well I now have confirmation for that statement right from the mouth of Jessica Alba, here is a direct quote from a article written by Kevin Williamson in the Calgary Sun on April 25, 2002, here is the quote from Jessica about her disappointment with Dark Angel's creative direction this past season (2001-2002). The show introduced an ever-growing batch of "transgenics" half-human monsters, thanks to new producer Rene Echevarra (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). He was not the original creator of the show and his idea of the show was different from Jessica's and different from Jim Cameron. So if we consider that statement and the fact that if the series had maintained it original concept and theme that the series would have had a more favorable timeslot and it would have continued the success of the 1st season. So as far as I am concerned there is still some hope if we can convince Cameron to reconsider the possibility of a movie and that the failure of the series was because of the direction taken by Echevarra and Berman, if we can do that I think we might get some reaction and hopefully a movies, mini series or a renewal for additional seasons.

I didn't know the history behind the difference between season one and season two. (I definately liked season one over season two.) With this history in mind then, it does look more positive for talking Cameron into a movie! I wonder what would happen if we all copied this article and on a weekly basis mailed it to Cameron with a letter requesting a movie?
