I depend on my router and TrendMicro for security. I'd never rely on Microsoft. Routers don't provide much in the way of security in and of themselves. I would agree with you about Microsoft tho altho I've heard some great reviews about the BitLocker software that's built into Vista, that is supposed to be exceptional in terms of hard drive security. Not a network router - I mean a hardware firewall router on a non-networked computer. It's a great locked door - "tick-a-lock" that is ALMOST impossible to get through as long as you change your router password. A MS firewall is almost useless. Better than nothing but still not good enough. Remember - Good enough is never good enough. It's a "C" on the grade scale.

I'm obsessing about computers these days.
My current #1 computer has been wacky for months. First it was the mousie. The scroll didn't work but it worked on other computers. No optical mousie scroll would work on my #1 comp.
Then Word kept screwing up. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I uninstalled and installed using the disc from another comp. Screwed up worse.
And other weird things. So now I'm waiting for a new computer. #1 must be the newest.
Today I came home and all the icons, desktops, games, you name it, are all large. I prefer small icons. I can't get them to change back to small.
Any ideas from you geniuses. Or should that be geniui.

Try right clicking on the taskbar then going to Properties>Start Menu> Customise there should be radio buttons for Large/Small Icons.

Thanks Mr.C - I wonder why I didn't know that. As did I. I didn't bother answering because I figured she had already tried that. hmmmm cram too many facts about Industrial Chemicals into anyones brain and I guess some of the simpler things are going to fall out.

I must have been over-sniffing the chems. ;D ;D I really didn't know about Mr.Clarks info re: right clicking the task bar to access icon size. After thinking about it I realized I do it through Display - Settings - ResolutionAnyway, the stupid icons appeared small on their own. Now another question. More important. Hardly anything is as important as music. I have always downloaded YouTube vids by right clicking on the pop-up thingie that appeared at the upper right of the video as soon as it started. Last week when I updated to the new FireFox browser I could no longer download the vids. However, when I scooted over to Internet Explorer - it allowed me to download as usual. Now that I'm setting up my new computer I find I can no longer download vids on either browser. The pop-up thingie does not appear. Enough of my sob story. How can I continue to download my music? H - E - L - Pwww.youtube.com/watch?v=uw1bHaUk1CMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=WISX2oSExIA&feature=relatedWill I have to buy yet another computer? Will I have to go in debt and build a computer room onto my house? Heck with it. I'm going to go eat a giant homemade chocolate cookie with cream cheese lemon frosting and have a beer glass of cold milk. ** ** Don't worry, I didn't bake them or we'd all be dead from ptomaine.

I knew old school youtube and Google Video allowed for downloading but I thought that went away ages ago.
Have you considered getting your music through more conventional means? Like say iTunes? Hell there are even more conventional illegal ways to get music then copying stuff off youtube.
How did this work anyway you just watch the music videos on your PC? or do you somehow get them on an Mp3 player? I don't understand why your using a visual means to get something more easily gotten as audio.

If you want to keep downloading from Youtube, and use Firefox i'd recommend you try this add-ons... addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/3006This allows you to download an embedded video file of any kind as soon as it starts buffering on the page. Another option is this addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/220, but it's more of an mass-download manager, like the much beloved DAP. It needs a lot of tweaking tho'... Hope this helps ;D

I knew old school youtube and Google Video allowed for downloading but I thought that went away ages ago. Nope. I not only considered it - I did it. I have over a thousand downloaded songs from iTunes, Rhapsody and WalMart. I stopped buying CDs several years ago because I only like a few songs on most CDs. I prefer making my own. I've never downloaded music illegally and I don't consider YouTube as illegal or they wouldn't allow it. (How's that for rationalizing what might be bad behavior.)I watch 'em on a big screen. There are some musicians I would never listen to, for instance, The Highwaymen, because I don't like country music. However, I'll watch a vid like www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw1bHaUk1CM because it's fun. I also like some late 50's and 60s music on video but I never buy it. I don't even know if it's available. The vids are fun to watch. What? Is it such a surprise that someone would enjoy something visual? Why go to a movie when you can buy the book on tape. Mr.Clark, you must use part of that big brain for a sense of humor. ;D Hmmm, did someone here tell me to do that?Thank you so much herumor - I've been using FireFox since the first beta but have never checked out the add ons and extensions. I wish I had more time for the internet. I only go to two message boards, here and Special Ops, and I miss out on all the fun. My buddy, dzero, keeps me clued in to net life. I use the internet for research for work and school every day and I know I'm missing a lot.

Ok, I'm not against your liking to watch the concert clips, I am getting into the Concert DVD's on Bluray but its mostly a quality thing I wouldn't think watching them in Youtube video quality would be worth it. Bluray on the other hand is beauteous and well worth the pircetag.

Quick question....is Vista really as bad as everyone says? Mr. Shywriter, a dedicated Bill Gates detractor, just got a new computer with the dreaded Vista. He's not crazy about it but has come to terms with it-- no major crashes yet. He's got some computer chops, though, and probably was able to fool it into doing some things most of us amateurs couldn't manage...
