;D
After watching this ep of Mad Men I suddenly realised what I'm missing from NCIS. We're always complaining about new characters taking away screen time from our faves, but in MM, it's the bit part scenes which really add the gravy to episodes. The 'outside' characters can help to flesh out a scene without taking away from the main cast.

The 'outside' characters can help to flesh out a scene without taking away from the main cast. hmmm they are such different shows, really an apples/oranges situation. First I'm probably the only one here who has never complained about there being too many characters, not enough time for my favorite character on NCIS. My dislike for Jenny had nothing to do with that and everything to to with how she was written performed. I even like Jimmy ( yeah that's right I said it ). I agree completely that these guest stars add immensely to Mad Men but the comparison isn't really fair because despite it's big cast of quirky characters at the end of the day it is Don's show and always will be. The other characters can disappear for episodes at a time and it's not a big deal. Imagine if that happened on NCIS? two or three eps in a row with no Tony? Fans of the show would loose their minds! As for the last couple eps? lol karma seems to be catching up with Don Draper, first it was Burt Cooper and the greatest contract negotiation scene ever! and then little Betty Draper giving him attitude when he was actually trying to be nice for once ;D

I don't mean that we should lose any of the main team for an episode, only that it would be nice if they could actually converse with other people in the office occasionally - to add a bit more realism. A comparison to MM would be the lady from the switchboard or the 2 new guys from the beatnik copy/creative team. These people usually add something to the storyline without taking anything away from a main character. Yes they are completely different shows so very hard to compare, but I guess what I am referring to is more about the structure of scenes and in particular what is going on in the background. In the very early eps of NCIS you would often see people in the background of Abby's lab which added to the sense of space and movement. Unfortunately this didn't last very long and when they finally gave Abby a support team it was in the form of creepy-what's-his-face. They gave us Agent Lee as a support character and then killed her off. Could it be that every time they introduce a support character with a semi-recurring role they end up giving them their own episode and then killing them off? (Only Fornell has survived) (I don't consider Franks a support character, he is a guest 'star'). Is there a problem with having support characters that don't need to be any more than that? This isn't a new observation niggle for me. I've always felt this about the show. (Obviously it is a new observation, but I didn't know how to express it before...and I'm not sure that I am expressing it well now ) ** I'm currently 2 eps behind in MM. ** Now caught up

I made it through most of my 'to watch' pile and finally saw Kings... It's FRAKKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Every line, every plot and sub-plot, every look and gesture is perfectly done, exactly where and how it should be. Of course it got canceled, it's one of the best things in TV since Life on Mars (the UK version, I mean). I'm surprised the PTB even aired the full season...

HerumorSeveral of my friends cried when Kings was canceled. I'm waiting for the DVDs. dzeroSome friends that are vacationing with me say this is their favorite new show. Of course they won't be watching it until they get home. No TV here in paradise. We do have large monitors and we can watch DVDs. I had a few new shows on my list and have already discarded Flash Forward, "V", and I'm iffy on Stargate Universe. For some weird reason I've fallen in love with Legend of the Seeker, a New Zealand show and Torchwood, a BBC show. I've ordered both on DVD. The second season of Legend of the Seeker starts in November and there might be a 4th season of Torchwood starting in the spring. The 3rd season of Torchwood was a mini-series named Children of the Earth. The ending was so disturbing that I had nightmares. That's when I knew I had to have the DVDs.

It was brilliant, I got all excited about a month ago there were rumors that NBC might actually bring it back but then the exec-producer did an interview and said it was never gonna happen. It also cracks me up that the show that replaced it, Southland, just got cancelled without even airing a Season 2 episode. Apparently it was too dark and gloomy to air on a network at 9pm. Personally I just think NBC has no patience and should give some of its shows some more time to develop a following.

dollhouse...tonight! woo hoo!....wait ...did i fall asleep? They seem to be a lot less confused about the show this season. It's been very dark which I'm liking. I don't like the new intro though. I know it's essentially ED's show, but c'mon, that's overkill! ** I'm enjoying SGU and I'm prepared to give it a chance and see where it goes. Still, it ain't no BSG

For some weird reason I've fallen in love with Legend of the Seeker, a New Zealand show When this premiered I saw the lead actress interviewed on TV and was intrigued enough to give the show a chance. That chance lasted about 2 minutes

I'm currently 2 eps behind in MM. ** Now caught up they seem do be getting rid of some of the supporting characters this season I am very dissapointed in the scenes between Don and Conrad Hilton. Don is such a kiss ass in those scenes it makes me Whats weird is that the scene where they met at the Kentucky Derby party was so great, it's been downhill since then Other than that this show has been great, episode per episode it's been the best thing on TV.

That chance lasted about 2 minutes Ah...I ended up watching the whole season, out of respect and devotion to the novels (the first 5, anyway) but it really let me down. The part of Zeddicus was cast perfectly, and I loved the Mord Sith - I mean, hot chicks in skin-tight read leather: what could possibly be wrong with that? - but the series were a disappointment in general.

Was reading a Mad Men thread on another forum and the subject came up whether or not the contract negotiation between Don and Cooper was blackmail and it most certainly was IMO and read this comment..
"its not entirely blackmail, i mean, its more like forcing someone to bang jessica alba."
