The following messages were posted on FF.net yesterday. May 30th, 2007 -- For the past 48 hours we have been quietly upgrading our backend software and hardware. Unfortunately, the upgrade of this magnitude is not without faults: some pages did not load properly during the last 2 days while the upgrade progressed as fast as humanly possible.
Enjoy the ride as the next few weeks/days will bring new wrinkles and an old feature is returning with a vengeance. It is our goal to surprise and making sure the core needs of everyone on the site is met, one small step at a time. Here are code names for those that can't wait. Search Reloaded: no secret here. EyeBalls: lots of them. Phoenix: fat lady never sings. Info Overload: got eye-drops? Your Questions: your answers. We had hoped to release some of the features during March but our schedule did not permit it. As with all procrastinators, when we get going we go for the home-run. It will be fun.
May 30th, 2007 -- Minor but important updates. Non-moderators will only be allowed to create a new topic to the same forum every 8 hours: designed for forums that wish to be open to the public but want to avoid spammers at the same time. There is no limit on the number of forum threads/replies a user can make. When blocking a user or adding user to favorites, there is now options to locate/add user by UserID, PenName, Profile URL, or Email. Note for email option only public emails will be searchable. Search is now able to perform phrase matching. To use this feature, put double quotes around the search phrase.
May 30th, 2007 -- Our previous upgrade triggered a bug which caused 500 errors or half-loading pages. Thanks to your bug reports we have been able to isolate the problem and it has been fixed.

Yeah, right, promising all kinds of new functions and then not working at all. Stupid, stupid, stupid FFnet. Saw ITL’s new story on the front page this morning (fluff and angst ;D), went out for four hours of annoying, little things, no breakfast and no time to eat, come home, sit down with food to read, anticipating, and FFnet has stopped working. It does that on purpose. I’m so hopelessly addicted…

come home, sit down with food to read, anticipating, and FFnet has stopped working. It does that on purpose. See, I've sorta half bailed on ff.net myself. I very much prefer Livejournal (all my fics also at trolllogicfics.livejournal.com/, gee should'a mentioned that eariler...) Only sticking around 'cause the DA community over on lj is pretty well dead and ff.net still gets some trafficing...

The following message was posted on FF.net yesterday. June 2nd, 2007 -- We have discovered a problem with Document Manager and certain type of HTML files. Although a work-around has been implemented, we currently do not recommend submitting works via HTML or Plain Text (.txt) files. If you do not have Microsoft Word, we highly recommend you do download OpenOffice which is feature-rich, free, and fully supported by the site.

The following message was posted on FF.net today. June 7th, 2007 -- Search "Reloaded Part 1" is ready for public testing/consumption. The new search engine is more powerful and easier to use. Reloaded Part 2 is currently in development and will encompass communities (C2s) and forums. There are too many improvements to list so here is a summary:
Search results can be narrowed/drilled-down one filter at a time: indispensable for searches that return a gazillion records.
When story result is drilled down to category level, character filters if applicable are automatically displayed.
Multiple filters of the same field: you can narrow down to 2 selectable genres and characters when applicable.
Search phrase/keyword(s) are fully highlighted within the results. Phrase searching, using double quotes, are now fully enabled.
New story basic/default option will search within both title and summary.
New submissions are now searchable within ~40 minutes. Author searches can be narrowed by categories and/or languages they have authored in.
Due to the scope of the upgrade, we encourage all users to submit bug reports/suggestions to support@fanfiction.com. Please be detailed in your report and include full urls when applicable.

The following message was posted yesterday on FF.net. June 15th, 2007 -- Forums now have a new profanity filter option. By default, all forums have this filter enabled. Forum admins can login and disable the rudimentary filter. We suggest large forums or forums with very few moderators to leave this filter enabled.
Note the login/review area will be down for about 10 minutes at 12AM PST tonight while we install the same filter option for Reviews and Private Messages (PMs). Every member will have the option to disable this filter.
The following message was posted today on FF.net. June 16th, 2007 -- Part 2 Summary: After much feedback, our experiment with profanity filtering for K/K+ rated entries has been discontinued. There is just too much variation in how words can be used in the context of a story that renders any filter, even if good intentioned, quite useless. We have fined-tuned the profanity filter, when enabled for forums, pms, and reviews, to not be overly-aggressive. Login and visit the "Filters" section to enable/disable the profanity filter. June 16th, 2007 -- Summary: Profanity filter is now an option for Reviews and Private Messages (PMs). Enabled by default. Login to disable.

The following message was posted on FF.net today. June 18th, 2007 -- Feeds, cleaner feeds, and more feeds. Feeds are also known RSS/ATOM/XML syndication to keep people up-to-date on frequently updated sites/blogs. We have cleaned up our existing feeds, profile + community + just in feeds, and have added one additional one: category feeds. With the category feed, you can always find out what new stories are added or updated in your favorite section. Never be out of touch and miss out on new submission ever again.
Feeds are noted by the orange icon. Note that all our feeds are "dynamic". For example, when browsing the category by language, genre, and/or character, the options you check also create dynamic/customizable feeds with the same options.

The following message was posted on FF.net. today. June 20th, 2007 -- The development team took a short detour yesterday. Instead of creating something productive, we are introducing an "useless" feature: Profile Icons/Images. Every member can upload an profile image, resized to a max of 100x100 pixels, which will be displayed in your profile and alongside forum posts. Of course, what's "useless" to some is quite liberating to others. Just because the site itself is imageless doesn't mean our members' profiles have to be.
Forum admins have the option to disable profile icons. Several non-useless, productive, features are on the horizon.
