You guys were actually doing things great at BBWW, asking questions, opinions and stuff like that. I guess (and this is just me) my biggest problem was coming from a country where English is not the first language, my first major concern was whether anyone would understand me, and if I did say anything, whether I would have come across as being annoying or not. I do realise now that you folks are one of the most understanding people in the world when it came to languages and that really gave me the push to actually start posting. Have become sort of 'braver' now, although I still hesitate for ages over clicking the 'reply' button on occasion. Hmm...Ideas? Creating AURLCO was a good one. And the Writers Pulse thing was another. You guys have alerady come up with amazing ideas so far, not sure if there is anything else...But if I do think if something, I'd let you know right away. Edited to say: WHOOOHOO! I got my second STAR!

It's the same with me. I'm not even a native speaker (and sometimes most of the time I spend my day with re-thinking all my posts the night before and obsessing about grammar mistakes). It's not that you haven't been inviting or friendly or open, it's just about me being angsty. And I hope that the inactivity at BBWW is temporary

....I still don't know what the non-fic peeps here want us to do! (Dzero, do you even look at posts that don't include a photo of a gorgeous female sort of person? heh! I rest my case... (guess who's been signed in for several hours now...? ;D)

Did it really pull in new people? Nearly everyone who posted there Hm, a handful maybe (and I’m too lazy to look if those are non-posting members here): Moriania, Toblerone (wo seems to have gone missing ), Bolbotera, Ikaplon (okay, not even a handful ) I have no idea how to get more activity either (but am jumping in anticipation at your ‘future projects', Shy ;D), because just nothing seems to work right now . Nobody answered my question there. I guess (and this is just me) my biggest problem was coming from a country where English is not the first language, my first major concern was whether anyone would understand me, and if I did say anything, whether I would have come across as being annoying or not. I know this posting-hesitancy very, very well (if anyone wants a proof see my first post from yesterday regarding this topic ) and only part of it is language related, though I live in constant fear of mistakes of all sorts or of saying things that make no sense . And I may hold a record in lurking: From 2002 to autumn 2005 (and for the most of this time I didn’t even think of joining the active DA-world), when Reilynn nudged me into registering here… But I wasn’t aware that this was / is perceived to be worse on BBWW…

Would a discussion about "Mary Sue and her influence on fanfiction" be an appropriate topic for BBWW?
I have a couple of questions that might be a little too serious and writing-related to be discussed here (as this is the fun-with-shirtless-pics-and-smileys-place ;D).
I subscribed to BBWW yesterday (Somehow I can't be angsty about my non-native-speakerness with brave intstebri around. She's such an inspiration.)
Just tell me, if you (= Shy, Mari, Mia, etc. ) would support it...
To Shy: Thanks for the link to Grammar Slammer ;D Feels like school again, but teaches me a lot of stuff school didn't. ;D ;D

I’m always for fanfic discussion. ;D ;D You could post it under ‘Questions’ or ‘What makes a good story’ or just open a new thread?

BBWW STUFF:little things:
1. In defense of poor dzero, I rarely look at anything OUTSIDE of Writer's Guild. You could bury my name in the Jessica Alba movie thread and I wouldn't catch it for months. Let's just say that it's safe to assume we won't be boring him.
2. There was something sort of intimidating about BBWW, beyond the language thing. I felt it and English is my first (and for all practical purposes only) language. I know that it wasn't intentional, I think it was just the format and nature of the discussions. I felt like I couldn't even pop in to DAR to say 'Hi' unless I had at least one story to offer as an admission ticket.Big thing (or at least regular sized ): Did we lose anybody when the discussion moved over here? Anybody who would otherwise be active at the other site? I just don't think it matters where we're talking, as long as we're talking (and writing, and researching, and creating, and obsessing, and nitpicking, and joking, and fantasizing about Logan).

(guess who's been signed in for several hours now...? ;D) Hmmmmmm interesting I can't help but wonder if shywriter is a little cranky these days, what with Indiana getting bounced from the tournament so early and everything ;D It's true I've never been into the fanfiction. I think I've only read one and this was only when prompted by Reilynn . But I think I participate in plenty of threads that don't have photos of a gorgeous female sort of person . But those photos are a nice plus . I do feel for you all and am sorry your fan fic site isn't getting much action. I can relate, the once incredibly busy and thriving jessicaalbaonline.net a site that I was posting at even before DAR was created is now down to two, count them two active members. TopHeavyBoy

I'm sorry I think it's all my fault, I'm the 'non-fic peeps ' who had sent my story directly in her mail, without knowing it wasn't the right way to do. And without specify I didn't look for help to write it. I feel very bad since.

[ 2. There was something sort of intimidating about BBWW, beyond the language thing. I felt it and English is my first (and for all practical purposes only) language. I know that it wasn't intentional, I think it was just the format and nature of the discussions. Would you mind to specify / explain the ‘format and nature of the discussions’? It’s interesting that many people perceive BBWW to be more intimidating than DAR, because if anything I found / find that more true for DAR (smaller group of people who I knew mostly vs. huge board) And you know that I think you’re right in what you say… (Now that Blue has joined DAR the only other person I could think of who is not yet here, is Mouse) It’s just that I like BBWW, too. (Do I sound like a stubborn little kid? ) I can't help but wonder if shywriter is a little cranky these days, what with Indiana getting bounced from the tournament so early and everything Hm, so maybe we better shouldn’t block her thread with all these off-topic posts…? So I repeat what I said in Lisa’s thread yesterday: If you kick us out, please be a soft kicker. My poor butt already has gotten enough karate kicks today.

I guess what Lisa and I (and probably Griever) felt was that all of the active members of BBWW were writers with much experience and reputation, like being a high scool band suddenly performing next to *insertfavoriterockband*. And DAR is about the non-fic peeps, too. At BBWW you are the writer first, and then the fan. At DAR you're the fan, then the writer. (Now, that's just my impression. Lisa & G, feel free to disagree with me...)
@ intstebri: You definitely are one of the fic peeps. ;D
We can move this discussion to my thread (I'm suffering of severe Mary Sue inflicted writer's block and I don't want it to get dusty...)

Since Shy's thread has already been "abused" for the BBWW discussion I just thought it would be the right place to put my opinion. Just hope it's okay. Mari wrote: Exactly my thinking. I never found anything intimidating about BBWW (at least not more intimidating than any other forum where you post in a foreign language) and for me, especially with having just a bit DA time during the week, it seemed to be easier to keep up with the news there. I can understand Tigrou, Lisa and Griever perfectly but maybe I just never thought about the fact that so many great writers where at one place. It took me some time to find the "ten most recent posts" here at DAR (but that might just be ME). ... A REALLY, REALLY great feature!!!!! And I was always a bit confused by all those different threads and where to find something. I admit, after having spent some time digging through all the information, I think it's a great place to be. And now that I found out (thanks Mari and Lisa!) how to get those cute little smilies, it's even better. ;D And maybe Shywriter is right and it's good to have all discussion at one place instead of having it at two forums???
