Okay, not so much spoilers, but figured a thread might allow whose of you who don't want to wallow to avoid this decidedly historic day (after all, each major party is running a "first!") to avoid any updates some of us may feel compelled to post. SO: to kick things off (and dedicated to dzero) from the NY Times:"In tiny Dixville Notch, N.H., which casts its ballots just after midnight, Mr. Obama won 15 votes to Mr. McCain’s six. It traditionally votes Republican, and President Bush won the vote there in 2004." (yes we can!!!)

Well I did my civic duty and voted.
Kinda funny but there was no Republican on the ballot for my congressional district.

the only election related thing I plan to watch tonight is the Indecision 08 thing on Comedy central. Stewart and Colbert are comedic gods.

Most of us here are probably for the same guy but we have to be careful and not cheer for the winner. And not swear if our guy loses, which dzero has assured me is impossible. We don't want to hurt the feelings of the losers or chase them away from our site. We have way too few posters. Let's be kind and pretend none of this really matters.

I'm leaving for a party to celebrate the defeat of Proposition 8. I'm pretty sure it's defeated even though the polls have just closed. I'm taking forty home made tamales that smell sooooooooo good. Each one has about a thousand calories. ;D Of course, I didn't make 'em since I don't cook but the person who made them is a marvelous cook, especially for Mexican food. Have we ever had a president whose last name ended in a vowel?

We have way too few posters. Let's be kind and pretend none of this really matters. Out of respect for you, everyone here & the site, I'll say nothing else about the election beyond this: How sad is it that we can't cheer for the winners, and to congratulate and thank the losers for the hard, sincere efforts they made? Why do we assume we can't discuss a national election with dignity and grace? I'll be kind, but I can't pretend that 'none of this really matters,' and none of us should: we're involved in 2 wars and are facing economic crises the likes of which none of us has lived through before. I can respect the fact that this isn't a political or news board, so will bow out of the discussion. But as Prop 8 is controversial and important to many people (and for opposing reasons), the nation's 'health' and direction is critically important to all of us, even if not all care to follow it. And even before any polls closed tonight, history was made-- a lot of firsts -- and that in itself makes today's election really matter -- a lot.

Why do we assume we can't discuss a national election with dignity and grace? Politics and religion are far to person for anyone to expect the dignity of others will be maintained. Not to mention the fact that the chances of anyone swaying someone else opinion is so slim as to make you wonder what the point is in trying.

Don’t want to start a political discussion here but let me just say that I disagree and don’t think that conceding to something seeming to be ‘human nature’ is a good reason for not even trying. (Also the media over here are quite impressed with Americans’ attempts at that…)
