Top secret is a classic. Kilmer is such a good actor he should really get back into the Comedies. I wondered what happened to him in the late 90's after The Saint he kind took a dive career wise and he let himself go a bit. Hes done better the past few years with Spart, Kiss Kiss and Deja Vu. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is really good and I really liked Deja Vu. but my favorite Val Kilmer movie is The Ghost and The Darkness. \ I go to the Field Museum in Chicago every year to visit these lions. It isn't a popular movie but that's a good reason to love it. I never like award winning critic raving about movies. The only Oscar winner that I love is Out of Africa. I know there are others but I can't recall right now. *** Sure, I see all the movies and might admire a few but I don't LOVE them enough to see them twice or to purchase them. I have hundreds of DVD's and most of them are movies I loved and never got nominated for anything. If a critic likes a movie I run screaming. ***I expect dzero to come along here and list some Oscar winners that I really like but my brain is super dull today.

It made me think of when the movie 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead' came out. A friend and I went to see it because the local critic gave it NO Stars We laughed ourselves sick. Sure it's stupid, but sometimes you need a break from RL. and you can't count animation I just got Arctic Tale - If you liked March of the Penguins, you'll probably like this. Instead of south you're north and it's Polar bears and sea lions; don't know why it went straight to video.

You mean you go every year to root for those lions. Bridge on the River kwai is the only one I can think of, my brain is duller.

Just saw Indy 4 and its pretty awesome, not Raiders awesome but definitely up there with the later two of the originals. I liked it as well. I think it helps to go in with low expectations. I loved Raiders but didn't care for the sequels. Recently I tried rewatching them, I couldn't even make it through Temple of Doom but The Last Crusade was much better than I remember. Crystal Skull I would say is not quite as good as Crusade but much better than Temple of Doom. I really enjoyed watching Harrison Ford play a hero again. He makes Indiana at once seem older and yet can still be believable in the action scenes. The only part of Crystal Skull I really didn't like was the Tarzan impersonation.

That was a bit daft. Your right on point about Harrison, he really hasn't done anything note worthy in the last 10 years or so and its great to see him playing an iconic character again, he created so many in the 80's and early 90's. Shia Labeouf was pretty impressive as well, the kids got charisma and hes starting to really make a name for himself. Did you see the Eagle Eye trailer dzero? that looks like its going to be good as well.
On a completely unrelated note, jumping back to the Val Kilmer discussion I watched another one of his classics last night Heat. One of my all time favorite crime thrillers, Michael Mann is a genius.

I do know that film is from the same director who did Disturbia with Labeouf and that film was surprisingly good. That director also did an episode of DA. Not sure why I know all that , lot of useless information kicking around in my head. Just remembered some more , same director made The Salton Sea with Val Kilmore and that film is terrific. Maybe the best performance from him I've seen.

Like the fact that they did nothing but play with cell phones for the first hour of the film but when the baddie starts breaking into the house the first thing they do is scream when he cuts the phone lines. I'd have liked it better if they'd just stuck with the teen romantic comedy theme from the first hour. Since you missed some of the trailer you can watch it all HEREApparently Caruso and Shia are planning to adapt the graphic novels Y: The last Man, not a big comic book fan personally but in reading the Wiki for it, it looks pretty interesting in a post apocalyptic sorta way.

This may not be strictly relevant to this thread but I'm a bit of a film geek and really want to post this as its something that saddened me a bit to see. Sydney Pollack director of some of my favorite thrillers like The Firm and Three Days of the Condor, died today of cancer. Its a terrible shame he was an exceptionally talented director, who was also a solid character actor in his own right. Recently I got a great kick in seeing him have a supporting role in Clooney's Michael Clayton and it made me wish he would get behind the camera again, unfortunately it wasn't to be. RIP Sydney Pollack 1934-2008 Read his LA Times Obituary hereIm pretty sure theres a couple other film geeks here that might be saddened by this news.

I read a rumor of his being sick months ago but nothing was officially announced as far as I know. That gave me some hope that there was no truth to the rumor. Without a doubt my favorite movie of his was/is Three Days of the Condor. This is one of those movies I could just rewatch over and over. A lesser known movie of his I like is Castle Keep. This is one weird movie but has always fascinated me. Very 60s arty film making combined with the WWII story, I can't think of anything else quite like it. Anybody wanting to see him as an actor should check out Woody Allen's Husbands and Wives.

Castle Keep is on my netflix list and I'll have to throw Husbands and Wives on there as I am a big fan of his acting, I really enjoyed his on screen presence he could convey both incredible tension and an almost eerie calm at the same time in a way you don't usually see.

Apple Trailers has the red band trailer for the new Coen brothers flick up. It looks awsome, I love it when Brad Pitt plays these kinds of looney characters. That and the typical Coen brothers wacky sense of humor put this near the top of my can't wait to see list. In order to view it you'll need to have iTunes installed which for some people is apparently a big ask, if your one of these I'm sure you could probably find it on Youtube just search for Burn After Reading.
