Okay, so i started this Normal thread, not as a drool mechanism, i am an angel thru and thru.
But still something about normal fascinates me.
Although he is a A constipated, crusty, angry, rhythm-free, Republican white man as OC would say, i always thought there was a hidden story.
In a few episodes there is a hint of a hidden past, and a medical background.
Essentially two moments stand out
1) When he is dating the half-a-heifer and can diagnose that she's been retro-fitted from the prescription in her purse, i mean i would expect OC to know, just out of the whole Lesbian thing so she doesn't end up with a woMAN.
2) When he calls Max, OC and the rest of the crew idiots and morons in Art Attack - complete with the Latin definitions.
Could it be that his one of his PhD studies at Harvard was medicine, perhaps even gentics and that it was Original intended before the hash that was season two that he would be from Manticore?
Could he have helped Max and Logan with that pesky virus?
There are so many other possiblilities.
Anyway as a result of this i am probably going to write a fanfic about my thoughts but i am interested in what others think?
So, disscussion open, and if someone needs to drool, i'll just look away - but it is your choice.

There was a fanfic on ffnet that went a lot like what you're describing. "What it means to be Normal" www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=715405&chapter=1The plot line you mentioned sounds very promising and I'm looking forward to reading the story once it's posted. "Cherries.." is great! ;D Abot Normal. I kinda like him as a representative for all those conservative types of folks that are out there, i.e. the "normal" type. Makes a good counterweight for all the Manticore/hero/SW1/ freak types. Actually, it's not really flattering, that the only "normal" guys (i.e. without any secrets involved and double identities) we see on DA are Normal and Sketchy. Ouch! Making Normal belong to Manticore would take away all that. But this reticence I have refers only to the show, fanfic is another matter. ;D Jam Pony would be nothing without Normal. The character has a lot of depth. Who knows what he's hiding? And since I'm already here, one question: remember that scene in the Pilot when Logan comes looking for Max at JP and he sees Normal for the first time? Normal is looking in a mirror, Logan is leaning forward and we have both their faces filling the whole screen. Logan's real one and Normal's reflection in the mirror. It's quite a weird juxtaposition, sorry I can't find the pic on the net. What do you think of that?

Here's that picture for ya scrita fixed it I know what you mean about Normal being 'Normal' but rewatching season one leads me to believe that the writers may have toyed with the hidden past thing. And totally Jam Pony needs Normal, It's just there has to be something beneath that conservative, work obsessed, shallow anti-social facade. Doesn't there

It's just there has to be something beneath that conservative, work obsessed, shallow anti-social facade.Doesn't there Normal has a lot of potential and it's clear they kept a few things open if they needed them. Too bad they didn't get the opportunity to use the ideas. Sigh. Apart from the hidden past thingie (now I remembered the missing EO backstory and that made me cringe) that could have been developped into more, there is a lot beneath the facade. FN showed that Normal is decent after all, but that's definitely not all there is to that character. Couldn't see the pic. Error, not found. www.nex.net.au/users/fmccraw/weatherly13.jpg

I always found Normal a little confusing. I mean one minute he was dating a female (granted she turned out to be a used to be male) and then in season two he was paying way to much attention to alec to be straight. Maybe he's supposed to be bi-sexual

In my opinion they ruined Normal in Season 2. By trying to appeal to a very young audience they turned him into an alec-loving-character that was embarrassing to watch. I know my younger sister and brothers did not like that at all. I did like Normal in Freak Nation. He was supportive when the going got tough. I hope we see Normal and the JamPonys in VS3. ;D

Don't know about that, Aerie. Normal did embarrassing stuff in season 1, too. Just remember the desinfecting part after Max caughs. I think that all is part of the character's flavour - and it was actually funny for me to watch.
Now, embarrassing stuff I hated and others thought was lots of fun - that's the movie "Crazy about Mary" or something like that. You know, the parts where they throw the dog out the window only to have him wrapped up in gauze afterwards or the part where the guy smears, well you might not want to know what, into his hair. The line between funny and embarrassing is very thin, everybody sees it differently.
Thanks for the pic, Abregaza! Weird shot, but Logan looks hot in it. ;D

I hated that movie too,
I love Normal's dialouge, from the way he repeats things eg Bip, Bip, Bip.
His vast repitoire of insults my favorite of which is disrespectful, uppity, loudmouth, deadbeat hooligan
I always thought that they should have used Oh for Pete's sake as well as For the love of Mike and Crying out Loud,
Speaking of That's a Good Slogan : Logan's Angels : for the love of mike. Sorry O/T

To me Normal was so great in S-1, funny, witty, bizarre, obnoxious, impossible, greedy as in turning Max in for the reward.
Normal was the boss you love to hate, but can't live without him. I loved his character and missed him when he wasn't in an ep.
Jam Pony and all the inhabitants were a big part of the success of S-1 for me.
In S-2 Normal was rarely funny. I thought he was glib, silly and pathetic much of the time. FG is one of only four S-2 episodes I can bring myself to rewatch, and I didn't like Normal very much in it.
My 14 year old siblings liked Normal in FG and they try to patiently explain that S-2 was made for their age group.
VS3 has brought Normal back to his S-1 glory days for me. I am reminded what an excellent actor can do for such a role when he has great writers.
;D ;D

ITA. S1 was the Normal we all know and love, and who is being lovingly reincarnated in VS3. S2 was somebody who looks a lot like Normal, but stole his clothes.

I love Normal!! He's one of the most original character's I've ever seen on TV! Of course, I don't love him in a "I want to bear his children" kinda way *shudder*, but I love his attitude and his fetish for gladiators.

How can you not miss "Where the firetruck is Max?"..lol "why don't we just close the place and live off the charity of strangers?huh? C'mon people,Bip, bip , bip!!!!"..lol I agree, alot more interesting in season one.More depth, he wasn't just a uptight republican. But that could be said for all the secondary characters in season one. S2 he was kind of reduced to just anti-Max banter. Probably do to the fact that additional characters came in in S2, thereby reducing the little screen time peeps like Normal, Sketchy and most sadly Original Cindy had.OC hardly had any screen time and she knew about everything from Familars, to Manticore to Eyes Only being Logan, but they still kept her out of the action, why? She was sooo wasted, especially in S2.Ok, end of rant.

You said it LicketyBoo.
Just think about how many times we quote Normal when we're posting. We are bip bipping all the time.
I miss that man a lot, 'specially the Season one bipper. ;D
