Dark Secrets Of Angelic Jessica
TV superwoman Jessica Alba is really a bit of a weakling
Dark Angel Ch5 7.15pm
When you see her starring as a genetically engineered superwoman in US action series Dark Angel, it's hard to believe Jessica Alba is really a petite young thing who admits to being a bit of a weakling.
The stunts he had to perform for the show, now to be screened on Channel 5, lef ther bruised after each day's shoot and there were times when she asked herself what she was doing in such a role.
"All the action sequences were hard," says the 21 year old. "You must have confidence in what you're doing and know your body - know your weaknesses and strengths, know how far you can push yourself. You learned by trial and error. You can't go by what other people tell you because no one else knows how your body is feeling. You have to try not to be a tough guy or you get hurt, but you also have to be prepared to take risks. Otherwise you'll be too cautious and nothing will look good. Some of the stunts were difficult. I was so exhasted as filming went on i got to the point where i let my stunt double take over more."
During filming, she suffered cuts and bruises and even dislocated her ribs. But Jessica loves a challenge so there was no way she was going to let the part of magical Max get the better of her.
"Hopefully, what i do on the screen looks good but i am not as tough as Max," says Jessica. "My wrists, for instance, are weak - probablyy as a result of tugging away from my grandmother when i was a child. Max is wonderful to play and Dark Angel has been a real learning curve. When i started out, i was unsure of myself, but as it went on, i grew in confidence and, after two season, i emerged stronger with a greater belief in my abilities. It made me a better person."
