We still have $179.13 left in the DAN account after paying for the ad.
Do members want to try to increase that maybe to around $500 or so and then donate it to a charity from the Dark Angel fans?
What do you all think?

I'd like to try and build it up. I haven't ever really been in a financial position to donate any money and now I am. So I should be doing that in the next few days. I guess it all depends on whether or not anyone feels the ad made any difference or knows of any other way to seek the attention we need.

Speaking from experience, I think a charity is a great idea. It would allow you to come together as a group and do something for a group of people that really need the help. If you have trouble thinking about which ones, find out what JA, MW or JC support. But regardless of who you go with you know it will be money well spent. SciFi fans in general are some of the most giving fans of any genre. While working on our own charity I got to talk to Witchblade fans, Farscape fans, other Buffy fans and all were raising money for various groups. You can see a list of some of the high profile ones at www.scifi.com/scifiwire/fandom.htmlThe one I worked on is here, www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-fandom.html?2002-10/24/08.00.fandom . I'd be glad to offer any advice or help. Warlock

Maybe we should "hang on to it" for a while. Maybe we might want to try another ad after a blitz letter campaign or something. But I am not opposed to donating it to a charity that Jessica Alba might decide.

A donation is a very nice idea.
However, are we as a group still committed to "Saving Dark Angel"? If we are still fighting and writing letters then, maybe that money should be used to buy advertising on the internet. The ad could ask people to come to this site and join us in our letter campaigns. The bigger the group gets the more letters that can go out and the stronger our appeal will be.
I do not know what it costs to have our banner out there as an advertisment. If people are interested in this idea I'm sure we can find out what it costs.
But - if people want to make a donation then, it is money very well spent.

Jules1983 posted in another thread suggesting that we hold a DA convention. it seems like a good idea to me. why don't we use the money to hold some sort of activity where DA fans can meet each other and also such an event could help make our fight more public. it might gain more attention in our favor. what do you think?

If the con is big enough you can also get the much needed media coverage. Now this is one area I have zero knowledge in. Keep your selves and your fight in the press. Everytime someone says "Dark Angel" you have won something. Warlock

I think that we should give mjwillia's idea of using the leftover money to purchase advertisement on the internet to attract attention to our web site and our campaign some serious consideration. We might be small in actual membership but I think that we have demonstrated our determination to get a conclusion and closure to DA, and if we can use the money to attract attention and new members to our cause who have the same determination who can assist us in writing letters and emails to keep the pressure on Fox and the independent affiliates then I am all for using the money for advertising, but if the membership decides to use the money to make a donation to a good cause, then that's great as well. But if we can attract new members who can help us accomplish our objective then we can possibly make a larger donation to celebrate achieving our goal at a later date.

i think that we should all build up the money again and do something to promote DA around the time of the year cancellation aniversairy. then, the ex producers and actors (resses) would be flooded with Da stuff and it might make our point EVEN more obvious, which is gd! ;D then, after, we could made a donation then, to say, JA's fav charity, them make sure she no's whaich could help show her our dedication, and sway her, and also, we'de be helping charity to! win win!

OR .... build up the fund and buy stock in SciFi or Vivendi or News Corp. and start making the decisions about what shows stay on the air?

I think collecting donations is a great idea, of course. But I think right now, any money we have should be spent on something like another "Save Dark Angel" ad in a magazine, let people know we're still around.
What I think is great about donation collecting, is it shows how serious we really are about this. Its like "whoa, these guys are spending MONEY on this!" u know what im sayin? It shows peeps that this is for real if people are giving money.
