that was a retelling of the plot and not the actual pilot - that might include stuff like special effects etc to jazz it up. Oh no, it really was that boring. Like I said, there was nothing in the pilot that couldn't be fixed with a little time and effort, but even so there's the simple fact that Joss Whedon is in charge of the program. If anybody but Joss was in charge, I would expect to see the characters grow over time - Malcolm rediscovering his ability to feel like a human, Book learning how to apply the teachings of the abbey out in the real world, and so on. With Joss, on the other hand, all that growth will just be used as more opportunities to torture and punish the characters, and the audience with them. Who wants to sit around and watch that?

That pilot did seem pretty awful and I hear what you're saying about JW. I watched S1 and 2 Buffy but got bored with the show after that because it just was the same old thing over and over. And this last season.... The little bit I glimpsed of it didn't make me want to watch it again. But the worst thing about Fruitfly is that lame western theme. OMBL. How dumb can you get? Are they going to play the Bonanza theme during the show ??!!!

Birds of Prey looks like a lot of fun. And I'm pleasantly surprised to say that Andromeda is still watchable, even after they gave Robert Hewitt Wolfe the boot. And if you've got cable, there's Stargate SG-1, The Dead Zone, Odyssey 5 and of course Farscape.
As for music, I'll tell you what I just told the Kittens: The musical score was extremely sparse, which only served to accentuate all those times when people were standing around looking uncomfortable at each other. When there was music, it was either a guitar, a fiddle or a harmonica.

Thank you BBOVenguy, for your insightful review of Horsefly. I'm sure it was much more interesting and original than the show itself. Like most everyone else here, I couldn't see myself watching it under any circumstances - even the ads for it are boring. I prefer to watch Fox crash and burn - much more exciting!

OK - I've been thinking about this for a little while. This is a campaign ideas thread ostensibly, so here is my idea:
After Horsefly dies a quick but painful death, Fox may well say that after such as expensive flop they don't have the money to bring back Dark Angel. So we could suggest to them a way to actually make money off Horsefly! You know how some communities offer people who play their car stereos too loud the choice of paying a fine or listening to a couple of hours of polka music or Barney tapes? Maybe people who deface library books or paint graffitti on public buildings could be offered the choice of a fine or watching Horsefly! Fox could sell it to the local governments and / or get a tax break for their public service.

I think that Gail person has something for Joss Whedon, or something, cause i think thats the only way such a stupid and boring show can even be advertised on TV, nevermind the fact that it cause the cancellation of the best show ever, DA. What is going on in those people's minds? The only show that i'll watch on Fox is John Doe (coming this fall) just because it looks cool and the guy who played Bling stars in it. And Birds of Prey but i dont even know on what network it will be.

There is no way in hell that I will ever turn on FOX. Exept [if] Dark Angel comes back, or the old episodes or on again!

Gail Berman and Joss Whedon are longtime friends. Gail is an excutive producer for "Buffy". I am glad to see BBOvenGuy came here to share his reviews of FruitFly with you all. Bob is one of the clearest headed people I have ever met. If we get Tara back it will partly due to him. He is far to modest to toot his own horn, but Bob has been in Hollywood writing a long time. He was a writer for "You Can't Do That on Television" and he got to dump green slime on Alanis Morisette. He has also written an excelent essay on the lies that Joss Whedon has told. These are the people we (Tara fans and DA fans) have to deal with. www.xtreme-gaming.com/theotherside/tarasdeath.htmlPlease read this and pass the URL around to anyone or anywhere that might need to see it. The Buffy news sources refuse to pick this up. It must be too damaging. Again. Thanks for everything you all do. I'll keep doing whatever I can to help as well! Warlock

Actually, You Can't Do That On Television was produced in Canada. Hollywood never wanted anything to do with me - something I've ended up being grateful for.
But yes, I wrote the one and only sketch where Alanis Morissette got green slime dumped on her. It's my claim to fame - so far... ;D

Thanks for joining us here Bob! Loved your essay by the way. I can certainly relate to what you are saying about lying to the fans. Someday if you're interested PM or email me and I can tell you some stuff about what DA did to their fans in S2.
Talk about a betrayal of trust - we certainly know about that dating all the way back to the beginning episode of S2 and continuing on for the season. The cancellation and how it was handled was only the culmination of a season's worth of screwing the fans on the part of Fox and some (not all) of the DA staff.

For the Tribune. You want to talk to Steve Johnson. He has been very positive of DA in the past from what I can tell. He has covered all of the DA articles I hae read. For the Sun Times direct your mail to Phil Rosenthal. www.suntimes.com/index/rosenthal.htmlThough I don't have either direct email. Sorry about that Bob. Canada, Hollywood. Hell I am from the midwest it's all the same to me. Warlock
