Is it considered a holiday when Google changes its banner? Well if so:
HAPPY WORLD CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO GERMANY you pretty pretty boys! King Ballack, his Royal Bulge and his Boy Harem. GO TRINIDAD & TOBEGO you have Scotland behind you Jason! Oh how fabulous would it be to hear 'Scotland scores against England'. GO BRAZIL you better win! Beacause no one could stand another 40 years of England gloating.
No i'm not in the least bit excited, i mean Scotland didn't even qualify (the team not the player, go Jason go)because we suck so why on earth would i be squeeing over the WC06? Shouldn't all you Americans be all 'happy happy joy joy' since you are in the finals?

Shouldn't all you Americans be all 'happy happy joy joy' since you are in the finals? football? futbol?Oh...! Soccer! Sad, isn't it? That sort of explains the reaction from a lot of Americans (and NO, fellow US-peeps, I did not say ALL of you!!) But while the rest of the world is following the playoffs of the world's favorite sport, most of us in the US are oblivious. I heard someone joking that if the world isn't already angry enough at the US, winning the cup would really do it, since the team and the sport get so little interest and support from its citizens (he also opined that it might be a positive for the American team, 'cos there's far less pressure on them from the "fans" if they blow it!) So everyone give a cheer for their teams and may the best team win-- but a special woo-hoo for the US boys! ;D and poor Mari must be exhausted, hosting all those teams and all those fans!

King Ballack, his Royal Bulge and his Boy Harem. Yeah, King Ballack and his injured Royal Calf, which is the number one topic here for days… (He didn’t play yesterday, right?) But while the rest of the world is following the playoffs of the world's favorite sport, most of us in the US are oblivious. And thanks to Bush the whole of Germany now knows that “there is a generation of Americans who really aren’t soccer fans”. Though isn’t women soccer pretty popular in the US? (Germany has the Word Championship there, but nobody cares… ) hosting all those teams and all those fans! And despite “ Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden” (“The world staying at friends” roughly translated) the German hospitality is reeeally bad . For example a little town nearby rejecting hosting the English (or Dutch?) fans “because they all are hooligans”, or even worse some politicians thinking it’s necessary to warn “foreign looking people” to visit certain parts of Germany. Embarassing.

It is quite strange, there are huge banners, special promotions and competitions going on here (and a campaign against the confection formerly known as 'Mars Bar') yet we have no involvement at all. I think the US is the only country in the world where FOOTBALL (you know where you kick the ball instead of carrying it) isn't the #1 sport. My dad always jokes that my mum 'has no passion in her' because she couldn't care less about football - maybe she's a closet American.
Right now England are playing and i'm praying.

Though isn’t women soccer pretty popular in the US?(Germany has the Word Championship there, but nobody cares… ) A while back, yes (showing my ignorance-- what was that, 7-8 years ago, when the women's team did so well?) Sadly, a big part of the attention here was probably because the team had a couple very talented players who were particularly attractive, and one who ripped off her shirt, scandalizing the prudes and exciting the media by showing her jog-top (whatever you call them that one can see any day of the week in a gym ) Ah, but see, in a twisted little way, it just shows we are all one big family of mankind, after all: we ALL manage to have clueless politicians embarrassing the people they supposedly represent!

I think the US is the only country in the world where FOOTBALL (you know where you kick the ball instead of carrying it) isn't the #1 sport. That's certainly the opinion I've heard over the last couple days on the radio, as they're doing stories about the games (NPR, National Public Radio, has a couple 2 hour shows each day that feature a combination of national & world news along with various interest features-- they've had several news bits and stories about the finals over the past week.) ;D How does she feel about basketball? ;D That's less popular over all than American football, here; I just grew up in a state that is famous for its passion for basketball of all levels and it's the only game I can follow, so I have a definite bias...)

Yeah, King Ballack and his injured Royal Calf, which is the number one topic here for days… (He didn’t play yesterday, right?) Believe me that's not the bulge i'm talking about And no he didn't play, i thought when they were doing substitutions at the last minute (literally) he might come on but no such luck. Frings' goal was orgasmic, really spectacular. England fans get a bad rep with good reason judging from previous tournaments.

My dad always jokes that my mum 'has no passion in her' because she couldn't care less about football - maybe she's a closet American. Then I must be a closet American, too. Slept through the final game of the last World Championship although Germany was playing. one who ripped off her shirt, scandalizing the prudes and exciting the media by showing her jog-top (whatever you call them that one can see any day of the week in a gym ) If they ever visit Germany, they’d probably get a heart-attack with people here laying around naked at every lake and river… I just grew up in a state that is famous for its passion for basketball of all levels and it's the only game I can follow, so I have a definite bias...) Resulting in cool basketball games in “Concurrent Jurisdiction” ;D And Tweed Pants will probably kill me for saying this, but just on the aesthetical level… basketball players definitely are the better looking people. Those arms…

My basis for comparison is Denis Rodman, he's not exactly flying the flag for basketball players. Micha wins. And don't ask why i'm so in love with your national team because i really don't know.

I heard someone joking that if the world isn't already angry enough at the US, winning the cup would really do it, ;D ;D Yeah that seems to be the thinking going around. Stephen Colbert joked about this on his last show www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/index.jhtmlpretty funny IMO. Soccer was the only sport I was any good at as a kid. Had the best slide tackle in the league . In fact I'd say most kids play it in the US at some point, just never caught on as a spectator sport for adults .

I think it's an amazing game to watch, but can be very dangerous (seeing the pictures of Cisse's leg was horrifying, his studs got caught while he was running and he broke his leg in two places, similar thing happened to Larson while he was at Celtic and man i am such a dork).
