DA Fanfic fans! I asked for NCIS fic recs recently and got some great responses. And I know that ML Fan keeps an eye on newly posted fic for us and keeps us updated about new stories on her thread. But now I feel guilty to have so much attention on NCIS fic on this DA board, without reminding everyone about all the terrific DA fic we still have available, from both the fic written while DA was in production, and all that's come after. It's time we revisit all the good stuff we haven't discussed in a while, or some of the newer converts haven't ever seen. SO! Please share your all-time favorite S1 DA fic right here! No matter if they've been mentioned before, slap 'em up here! It would be helpful to tell us why you're recommending it, or briefly what's in the story -- for example, is it mission or fluff? Canon or AU? In the chair or ignoring medical realities? Hot & steamy or cute & fluffy? Angsty? Silly? What makes you like it so much? The weather is getting cooler and we may all need some good M/L reading to cuddle up with soon! Let us hear from you! ~ ~

Reaching for the Moon by PeekingNoodle A very often-recommended favorite! Here's a link to Reaching for the Moon. Mr. Clark, you didn't fill us in and I confess I haven't read this all the way through -- but as I understand it, it's a shippy M/L AU and Logan is on his feet. Anything you want to pass on as to why this is a must-read?

Anything you want to pass on as to why this is a must-read? Its probably the most complete and well articulated AU I've come across in any Fandom. Whenever authors put AU in a title I get nervous because they're many ways for AU's to go off track but she does an excellent job.

Reaching for the Moon by PeekingNoodle For some reason (the AU thing I guess) I've never read past the first chapter with this one, even though everybody keeps recommending it. Need to give it another try, it seems. ;D Thanks for opening the thread, Shy, yay for old new fic recommendations. ;D

Again, Mr Clark, it seems like you and me have similar (excellent) tastes in fic =) PEKING NOODLE!! Such a shame she left the second installment unfinished. To answer your question, Shy - expanding on what Mr. C has said, it IS one of the best written AUs around, starting off with a young Max and Logan meeting at Max's adoptive parent's place and moving on a few years into the future when they meet again after tragedy strikes. Humour, drama, ML ... all in one Oh - would Willows Shipper Second Season be considered a classic? I remember liking it alot - and now I can't find her website anymore although I'm pretty sure she's got some stuff on FFNet too.

Got out the artifacts of my first winter of fic-obsession (sitting in an unheated room and sticking yellow post-it notes with titles and authors (no computer of my own - no bookmarks) into the pockets of my skiing jacket ): Most here probably know catherder’s A spin in the park but here’s another, very sensual spin in the park story: Dandelion Wine by M Starlight[/color]. The image in there of Logan’s hand fingering some leaves has just stuck in my head (and also this made me write down to go read Ray Bradbury) I guess A fan’s Cale’s diaries are an epic classic. I remember liking Jude Mustard’s stories… Logan’s thoughts while watching the video of the shooting in Control by Rach L.Oh - would Willows Shipper Second Season be considered a classic? I remember liking it alot - and now I can't find her website anymore Think it’s gone?

Oh, this is great! Let’s flood the pages with lots of good recommendations and make this a place where we all know we can come if we have some free time and are in the mood for some good fic! But don’t let the use of the word “Classics” limit your recommendations to those early, early fic, as great as they are. It’s completely legitimate to think of Classics as your all time favorites, those you go find to reread, or maybe those you look at as almost as “canon” as the shows themselves (the Cale Diaries is a good example; lots of M/L fans has said they see this as *the* word on what happened in those three months between the shooting & Max’s showing back up in the penthouse – and she even goes on through all of S1!) But while everyone is pulling out the older stuff, I will, too: I know I have beat this drum forever, but if you’ve never read stories by Intodust, or you’ve read her darker stories and find they’re too dark for you, please read Abstract: it’s a lovely few minutes of Max and Logan in the stunning, rich language she uses so well. She has a way of writing in a way that parallels the way the show looked, the true post-Pulse feel, and in that it has always seemed to me to be the most faithful rendering of the show itself, its design and other visual aspects, into fic. Even so, the moments between M & L in this story, with a very early, tentative M/L-coming-together feel about them, is not dark or angsty at all. It’s short and hopeful and magnificent. If you like that, and would like a taste of her dark side, but with a wonderfully hopeful ending, read Tearing the Sky: it includes what has to be the best, most beautifully rendered line ever in a story... If you want to see fanfic raised to art, you owe it to yourself to read her work. Believe me, I never want anyone to die or be unhappy, and some of her stories are so full of unhappy endings, angst that doesn’t end well, and overwhelming sadness, they are not easy to read and walk away. But this is a whole different world she has captured and there has never been anyone else who has taken this show and painted such amazing worlds from it –

I sooo agree. Intodust's writing is so artistically riveting, it made me not mind the darkness of it all - beautiful writing at its best =) Another favourite - Cartoon by Kat1. Also sort of hauntingly dark-ish. I've gone back and re-read this more than 50 times at least, and each time it leaves such an impact ... good read =) And Out of the Shadows by MalloryAlice. AU how Max met Logan fic featuring the rest of the X5s as well and sort of like Extra Ordinary by Precious Jax AND!!! Maybe most of you have read this - Promises by raydyan. Another AU of how Max met Logan (although AU really is not my thing ...) but so well written - love it!

Oh - would Willows Shipper Second Season be considered a classic? I remember liking it alot - and now I can't find her website anymore Think it’s gone? I'm afraid it might be... Willow left fic a few years ago and I think in my occasional checking of various DA sites a few months ago, her fic site was removed. I kept the link for a while & checked occasionally but I never saw it again. However! It's not complete, but a few of her chapters are still available on FFN -- as she explained in her bio, most of it was booted by FFN when they started censoring a few years ago-- if I recall correctly she left then and never came back. Still ... for a taste ... here's a bit of Shipper Second Season II by Willow...

Yes to intodust’s stories. I probably make no sense but it seems as if Max and Logan in her stories are more connected, intimate but not in a sweetly shipper-happy but more real, complex and potentially conflicting way than in most . Tearing the Sky: it includes what has to be the best, most beautifully rendered line ever in a story... Would you tell us if somebody guessed it right?

Not sure whether to put this here or in the DA sites thread but just realized that with the Eyes Only site down not only the transcripts and screencaps were lost but also some stories that don’t seem to be posted on FFnet or elsewhere. I have printed versions of two: Most of all remember and really liked ‘Pursuit’ A multi-author, multi-perspective story, including the poem, a mysterious message sending them out of town meeting Valerie and Lydecker (yep, rare combination) and ending shippery, both of them in one hotel room. And from their Penthouse section “When the Pawn hits the conflict” by Angela Barnes: Logan investigating prison with the help of an inside informant and Max of course. Also love confessions, angst and a love scene in the end. Wonder what else was lost…? Does anybody have more? And some I found under my printed fic that are on FFnet, for example The Itch by Sheryl Nantus: Max having chicken pox and guess who taking care of her. Another short DA piece by the same author which I can’t remember reading : Iron Man, Ice Woman

I love reading all this fan fic reminiscing. I loved Peking Noodle's writing and value all the email I received from her. I was lucky to be able to read some of the chapters as she was writing them, before they were posted. Many of my favorites were written back in the day when S-2 was just a rotten little idea in the minds of two of the producer/writers who wanted to take over the Cameron world. #(*$& @(^&%#! This long story by Darwin is a favorite. She edited some of it and reposted saying: # 1 - Blinded # 2 - Family # 3 - Knocking On Hell's Door # 4 - Tima's Story # 5 - Kito's Story # 6 - After the Fire # 7 - Torrie's Mission Tima, Kito and Torrie are all Manticore X characters who interact with Logan. It has Manticore, Lydecker and wonderful Logan. Oh yeah, Max is in there being strong, but thinking Logan might be dead. Max and Logan are separated for a lot of the story, and Logan's effort to return to his home is a big part of the story. This is the first AU I read, because I wanted 'pure' Dark Angel all the way. I got talked into it and it is still one of my all time favorites. You know what all-time means. Max and Logan all the way. Even though it's AU Logan is written as pure Logan. If anybody out there wants it, I have it in one zip file, 84 chapters. I even printed it back in the day when my lazer printer was actually working.
