(In Max and Kendra’s apartment, Max is trying to brush her teeth, but they’re out of toothpaste. Kendra is working on some papers.) MAX: I can’t imagine a time where you could just walk into the store, shelves were full, and you could buy whatever you needed. KENDRA: Yeah. MAX: I mean, if you ran out of toothpaste, you could buy some toothpaste.

Watching this ep reminded me how much science played apart in the series and in the characters motivations, and how stupid it got in S2 when they changed the focus from genetics to "an ancient breeding cult" . I love the moment when Lydecker is talking to Max about "his kids". It was the first time you realized that he cared for these kids in his own weird fascist way. I remember being surprised by that the first time I saw this ep and that was when Lydecker became one of my favorite characters. When a show/movie can get you interested in the bad guy even as you root against him, you know that show/movie is doing something right IMO . This was also the first ep where I became frustrated by Max not using guns.
