I gave this episode a zero over at NCIS Special Ops, because it was boring and lacking in any suspense. I think that NCIS was better off when Director Morrow was there because Gibbs respected him and he seemed like a more realistic director and it's not the actor's fault the role that the role of the director has been flat and poorly written because that was in my opinion the case long before Director Vance was there. I think that the director could be an interesting and compelling role, but, the writers and TPTB don't do much with the role. This episode wasn't as bad as "Angel Of Death" for me, but, it was an episode that I won't watch again.

I gave this episode a zero over at NCIS Special Ops, because it was boring and lacking in any suspense. I wonder if this might be largely because of your dislike of Vance and of the show featuring any Director as a character who gets their own ep. I like Vance a lot and would be happy to see more of him if if didn't take away Tony time (which I suspect is impossible, so maybe that's an "if" that would never work without their making 90 minute eps!) But even though this didn't have much Tony, and the ep was another that felt rushed (again I was left thinking that if they had 65 minutes to tell the story and not 40, it would have been a more comfortable fit) I liked a lot of the bits they had here -- and it may be because the director eps don't bother me. I especially liked: -- the perfect reasoning for Gibbs' apparent over-the-top reaction to the Director running his own investigation: the last Director did just that with horrendous results. Of course the threat of another Director doing the same thing would be alarming! -- corny, I know, but I love the idea of the quiet, intense, Mr. I Got Secrets Director with a chatty, warm and witty wife who spills it all (great line from Vance to Gibbs about any necessary future investigations -- just ask his wife!) and her squelching his Big-Bad Toothpick Attitude by coming up, pulling it out of his mouth and saying "you know I don't like it when you chew these." (the McGee toothpick scene from the early Vance show is still a fave scene, too.) -- and no mystery? The allegation that Vance phonied up his past to hide something by swapping identities with the guy in the morgue? Has me interested! Granted, not enough of our boy and what was there was a bit weird -- not sure how crazy I was about that plot twist (protective of our guy, even with his special needs!) but the whole "hooker as magical soothsayer" or whatever that was, having her keep hinting heavily to Tony that Ziva's there for him ... (and what was with the quiet, wide-eyed Ziva appearances?) At least there was a fair amount to chew on in this ep. Let's just hope the writers use these things wisely... !

No, I've long thought that it was a bad idea to make the director a series regular, I didn't like that Jenny was a series regular and I don't like it now with Vance, because the director just seems to be ignored altogether or gone every other episode. It would be different if the director were an interesting and compelling character but, to me that isn't the case and I think that NCIS director has been a thankless, poorly written role well before Vance was ever there and I don't blame the former actress or the current actor, I just don't think that the writers and TPTB have ever given the director much to do since Director Morrow was there and that even without the director, I think that there are too many series regulars. I thought at first that the writers and TPTB were holding it against Jenny that she was a woman in a position of power, but, I know now that isn't the issue it's really that there doesn't seem to be the time or desire by the writers and TPTB to give the director whoever they are a constructive storyline where it is about the team and the director's relationship with them and not about the director alone or their agenda. I thought that "Knockout" was boring and while I hoped it would interesting and fun it was a chore to watch and while it had the NCIS name on it, it really wasn't an NCIS episode to me. I was glad to see NCIS return last week with "Hide and Seek." :)I think "Knockout" may have looked okay on paper, but, the final cut was boring. As far as Tony's screen time being affected by Vance being developed, I think that it is more likely that Ducky or Abby's screen time would be affected and not Tony's. I picked out two favorite characters just so I don't focus on screen time.

Meh - an imposter ep pretending to be NCIS. My indifference to the episode had nothing to do with Vance. Episodes like this, Call to Silence or Twisted Sister just don't interest me as there is too much time spent mooning about relationships.
