Fantastic Four Sequel Moved 2 Weeks Earlier Source: Box Office Mojo May 15, 2006 In a classic case of history repeating itself, 20th Century Fox has moved their 2007 superhero sequel Fantastic Four 2 off its plum 4th of July release date to June 15, two weeks earlier, presumably to get away from DreamWorks' Transformers, which also laid claim to the holiday release date. This follows the similar move of the original Fantastic Four away from the same weekend last year when it would have gone up against Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, a move which proved to be a smart one for the studio. Possible Spoiler Space 06.06.2006 6:00 AM EDT Alba Says 'Fantastic Four 2' Will Be 'Exciting, Hot, New, Fresh' 'We're going to amp up the action, amp up the love interest, amp it all up,' promises MTV Movie Awards host. CULVER CITY, California — Comic book character-turned-cinematic superhero Sue Storm is best known for her powers of invisibility, which allow her to sneak around and keep the secrets of the Fantastic Four from falling into the wrong hands. While Jessica Alba can understand such tendencies, she prides herself on being a bit more upfront. In town for her high-profile gig as host of the 2006 MTV Movie Awards (see "MTV Movie Awards: Will Ferrell Freaks Out; Jessica Simpson Dusts Off Daisy Dukes"), the actress is revealing some big secrets for "Fantastic Four 2," the superhero sequel she'll soon begin filming. And if there's one thing that perks up the ears of the men who've supposedly made her the most Googled woman in history, it's the pairing of the words "revealing" and "Alba." "I start [filming] on August 28th, I think, through the fall," Alba said of the sequel to last year's blockbuster about a radiation-fueled super-family. "It's going to be a very, very exciting, hot, new, fresh 'Fantastic Four.' We're going to amp up the action, amp up the love interest, amp it all up." As far as that first count is concerned, look for returning heroes Johnny Storm (Chris Evans), Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) and Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) to embark on some seriously enhanced action scenes, but it will be Sue whose powers will blow everyone else away. "I'm the most powerful of the four," Alba boasted, saying that the full-blown effects of the first film's hero-making mishap will finally be felt as she takes on the powers of her comrades. "I can kind of do everyone else's powers." Continuing with all that amping up, "FF2" will once again delve into the complicated relationship between Sue and Reed. In the last film, the sheepish Mr. Fantastic was trapped in a love triangle that had him battling with Dr. Doom. This time around, Alba promises another love triangle, and a new co-star who might be fueling it. "There is a little tension between the Silver Surfer and Reed," Alba said of the script, which will finally bring the legendary Marvel character to the big screen. The cosmos-roaming Silver Surfer has gained an army of loyal fans with his conflicted, complicated story line. Of the Surfer, Alba said: "He's a little good and a little bad. So it's just a matter of, 'What does Sue Storm bring — the good or the bad — out of that boy?' " Alba's clues could equal a romantic subplot between Sue and a Silver-skinned lothario. While comic book fans are connecting such dots, it also helps to note that there could never be a Silver Surfer without a Galactus. "I cannot bring up Galactus," Alba said, taking a deep breath and giggling. "I can't believe I just said his name. "Maybe he'll do an appearance," she added. For those who aren't tracking world-devouring mega-monsters, Galactus is the immeasurably powerful, millions-of-miles-tall being who must wander the universe looking for planets to snack on for sustenance. Galactus and the Surfer are as inextricably linked as George Steinbrenner and Joe Torre — appropriate, since an accurate cinematic manifestation of Galactus could cost enough money to bankrupt even the Yankees owner. "We do have some villain action — maybe a new villain, maybe an old villain, maybe one of us turns into a villain," Alba added. Specifically asked if Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon) would be in the sequel, the actress smiled. "Maybe, maybe," she offered. Wrapping things up, Alba bristled at speculation that the recently announced departure of Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad would have any effect on his involvement with the movie. "He owns it, he owns Marvel, he's totally producing," she said. "He owns everybody. He owns all of us — Spider-Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four." " 'Fantastic Four' is so much fun, and we really have such a great, strong family that we created," Alba added. "I'm totally excited, and with 'X-Men' doing so well, it just lets everyone know [that more comic book movies are wanted]. It's our whole same [Marvel] team. We are all so happy for them, and we're ready to go in this year and bang out another one." And with that, the world's most visible Invisible Woman vanished once again. Spoiler Space Exclusive: Gruffudd on Fantastic Four 2 Source: Heather Newgen June 11, 2006 Ioan Gruffudd is not only an action star now thanks to Fantastic Four, but he's also a very charitable guy. ComingSoon.net caught up with him and his stunning fiancee Alice Evans, who is also a British actress, at the Vintage Hollywood 2006 charity event in Los Angeles for which all proceeds will go to The Children's Circle, an organization which helps infants and children with HIV. Gruffudd must have been feeling really generous because not only was he going to bid in the auction at the event, but he gave us an update on what's happening with Fantastic Four 2. "I paid my ticket and I just wanted to come and support this charity that's all," he told us. "I think the presence of this disease is still enormous around the world and people are suffering with it in our own backyard here even in Hollywood, so I think it's very important that we tell people it's still out there and exists." Stylishly dressed in a Burberry dark blue stripped jacket, a V-neck shirt and jeans, the UK born actor admitted that while he has signed on for the sequel, which begins shooting in Vancouver in late August, he still hasn't seen the script. "I have not seen the script or read it. I don't know exactly what the story line is. I know Jessica Alba has been talking about it quite a bit and I believe that the premise is Silver Surfer is the new character that comes into it." Although Gruffudd has had some time to adjust to the overwhelming success of the first installment of the "Fantastic Four" series, he still can't believe the film's popularity. "It's fantastic. You know it's beyond our wildest dreams on how it performed in the box office. Obviously personally I'm delighted that we're going back. Hopefully this one will be successful and we'll go back for a third one as well after that." While he's still in disbelief about the success, he's certain about his character. "I'm sure Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic is very capable of holding onto his woman," he laughed when I asked if he was worried about the competition over Sue (Jessica Alba) and if he thought he could lose her. Besides Michael Chiklis, Alba and Chris Evans being brought back to reprise their roles, Gruffudd set the record straight on Dr. Doom -- Julian McMahon, who played the character in the first film, will be back too. "I'm sure he'll be just as ambiguous. Is he on our side or isn't he?" And although the star confesses he hasn't actually read the comic books, he loves the fans and has been well received by them. "They've been very generous... People either recognize me immediately or they don't recognize me at all. The fanatical ones are the ones who run up to you and go crazy. A lot of kids try to come up and pull my arms." "I hadn't read a single comic book when I was younger so I've come to this completely fresh," he continued. "It's such an amazing world that they've created, you know these Marvel comic book writers. It's just a great fantasy world for us all to go and escape to." Gruffudd said he can't wait to see his castmates again and he's looking forward to stepping back into the role of Mr. Fantastic. "I think when you revisit something for the second time, it's always more comfortable and comforting. It gives you more confidence and more scope to play around." Fantastic Four 2 is targeted for a release on June 15, 2007. If you can't wait to see Ioan Gruffudd before then, check him out as Burberry's new model for the company's men's cologne. Kerry Washington: Silver Surfer Should Get His Own Movie Posted Jun 30th 2006 3:03PM by Mark Beall Filed under: Action & Adventure, Fandom, Scripts & Screenwriting, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Kerry Washington played the popular Alicia Masters, the blind love interest of Ben Grimm (the Thing) in 2005's summer superhero hit The Fantastic Four. Like the rest of the cast, Washington is excited to return to the franchise, and also like the rest of the cast, she has begun discussing it with the media. Washington recently talked with MTV, and while she didn't have anything particularly new to say, she did confirm a few facts and convey her happiness at being a part of the project. Washington said there are still two scripts being considered for the second film, and no decision has been made yet regarding which they'll use. In fact, Washington indicated that a bit of both may make the final cut, as they're trying to lift the material they like from each script. Washington said to expect the second film to be a bit "darker" than the first, with the action able to really pick up now that origin stories are out of the way. Additionally, she commented on the inclusion of the Silver Surfer in the new Fantastic Four flick. She's very excited about it, and thinks it will be "huge." So huge, in fact, she thinks the Surfer (and his boss Galactus, of course) probably deserved their own movie.
The Silver Surfer is a very popular character in the Marvel-verse, although not as big as most of the "major" titles we've seen so far. He could certainly compete with The Punisher, Ghost Rider, or Elektra in terms of popularity, however, so his own movie isn't a bad thought. I have nothing but my own suspicions to go on with this, but yours truly would not be at all surprised to see the Marvel using FF2 as a launching pad for the Surfer, if the film meets with a good reception. Expect a Silver Surfer movie, if Marvel films continue to perform well at the box office.

It appears that an actor might not even be necessary. Moviehole talked to director Tim Story, who revealed a new bit on the character. "The Surfer will be a new CGI design being developed especially for the movie. It's going to be incredible." 20th Century Fox has scheduled a June 15 release for the follow-up, which again features Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba and Julian McMahon. Tim Story: The Fantasticar is Awesome Posted Jul 11th 2006 10:01AM By Mark Beall Filed under: Action & Adventure, Fandom, Scripts & Screenwriting, Movie Marketing, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels Hope springs eternal in this little geek heart of mine, and with every new update on the upcoming sequel to The Fantastic Four, the tiny spark of hope flickers a bit brighter. In general, the sequel news has been quite good, leaving your geek beat reporter in a very happy state. The plot sounds better, the concepts sound tighter, and the extra characters are well chosen. Now we just need director Tim Story to put them all together in a better fashion than his last go around with The World's Greatest Comic Magazine. And to hear him talk about it, he may well be on the right track. In recent comments, Story excitedly discussed the progression of the team. They've moved into corporation status now, and true to comic book style will be surrounded by far more gizmos and gadgets, many stamped with the famous Four logo. The interior of the Baxter building is going to be "hot," and he plans to pull design ideas from both the current Ultimate FF stories and the classic Kirby machines. And finally, Story is very impressed with the Fantasticar, saying: "What I'm really excited about is the Fantasticar. It's coming guys in all it's glory. Wait until you see it. It's going to split in pieces and all that. Johnny and Ben fight over who should fly it. All the fun you expect." All the fun I expect is a lot of fun, but let's hope he is right. It sounds promising anyway. Hope lives on for another day. Here's the link, www.cinematical.com/2006/07/11/tim-story-the-fantasticar-is-awesome/

Spoiler SpacePayne: Four 2 Will Do More Don Payne, who is writing the upcoming Fantastic Four sequel movie, confirmed to SCI FI Wire the previously reported news that the follow-up to the superhero hit will prominently feature the Silver Surfer, herald of the planet-devouring Galactus. "That's the worst-kept secret in town," Payne said in an interview while promoting his latest project, the superhero romantic comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend. "The Silver Surfer will be in it. The Fantasticar will be in it. We're just trying to make it more exciting and funnier, and, you know, we're trying to top the first one." Payne (The Simpsons) said that the second Fantastic Four adventure presents numerous opportunities, as so much of the first film was devoted to establishing the characters and introducing the Fantastic Four universe. Now, for example, there will be more time given over to developing Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), aka Mr. Fantastic. "I think people know the characters now," Payne said. "They know the tone a little bit better. Origin stories are always hard to get off the ground, and we're going to be up and running. I think the one thing I really want to do is make Reed Richards, that character, smarter and tougher. He's the leader. I think Ioan did a great job [in the first film], but I think he could have had more stuff to play as the leader. Reed Richards has his nerdy side, but he ultimately has to make some tough choices." The Fantastic Four sequel will begin production later this summer with an eye toward a June 15, 2007, release. —Ian Spelling Here's the link, www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=37012Story Gives Fantastic Four Sequel Update Source: Advanced Dark July 10, 2006 Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer director Tim Story has given an update about the sequel on his Blog: I've been going crazy prepping this thing. Just got back from Vancouver, which is of course where we will be filming the movie, and things are shaping up. It's the hard part of the phase where I have to make the ..'s work. Even with 100+ mil, there's never enough money. Looking at the plan for the new Baxter Building interior and it's going to be hot. We're going more high tech and we're giving Reed Richards and the gang more gadgets this time around. The "4" logo will be everywhere as we are used to seeing it. They are a corporation now. I'm going to use some looks that have been inspired from more recent comics, like in "The Ulimate Exstinction" and a little from the "Ultimate Fan Four" series. I know what you're thinking "Kirby, Kirby, Kirby!" There will be much props given to Kirby throughout the movie. What I'm really excited about is the Fantasticar. It's coming guys in all it's glory. Wait until you see it. It's going to split in pieces and all that. Johnny and Ben fight over who should fly it. All the fun you expect. Possible Spoiler SpaceTim Story Gives Fantastic Four Sequel Update Source: Tim Story July 22, 2006 Fantastic Four sequel director Tim Story has posted another update on his official Blog in which he gives an update on what's happening: I am busy working away at all the concept art and most recently the design for Doom. I saw the maquette today of what the improved Doom will look like and he's everything I 've wanted him to be. Many have stated their disappointment with the lack of "evil" ness in the last movie and I'd be lying if I said I was able to do everything I set out to do, but this time, there will be the plotting and the fighting and technology. He's just as smart as Reed, or as he would say, smarter and I'm going to represent that in the movie big time. Julian is on board and wants to have just as much fun in making him "that villian" we all know and love, or should I say hate. I'm wrestling right now with the cape issue and trying to have it but not let it get in the way of him fighting. He's not going to just shoot beams of power this time. He goes toe to toe with a really big surprise. My 2nd Unit director Ej Forrester was showing me storyboards on a sequence we have in the movie that involves Doom, and we're determined to have him blowing up nuts! Wait until you see the mask! The armor! Here´s the link, www.superherohype.com/news/fantasticfournews.php?id=4550

Doug Jones on The Silver Surfer... Sorta Source: Now Playing Magazine July 28, 2006 What might be one of the worst kept secrets in the history of casting when it's finally officially announced, Now Playing Magazine tried to get Doug Jones to talk more about possibly playing The Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer. Here's a clip: "I'm not breaking any news to tell you that there's a film coming called The Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer. That is public knowledge," he laughs. "It begins filming in Vancouver in August. So I would hope sometime around then that any other passing news regarding that film would be announced." He's definitely done his research on the character, as the site mentions, and you can read all he has to say at the link above. Possible Spoiler SpaceTim Story's Encounter with the Fantasticar Source: Advanced Dark August 6, 2006 Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer director Tim Story has updated his official Blog with a new entry that talks about the Fantasticar in the sequel: Al'ight. I'm in town for a couple of meetings (Translation: I'm over budget and something's gotta go) so they set it up for me to go visit the Fantasticar while it's being assembled (sp?). This car is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Not saying this because it's in my movie. (But there is obviously a bias) But it's cool. I mean this is like "the car from The Spy Who Loved Me" type of cool. You guys remember the one, white and went under water. (I might be saying the wrong movie, so forgive me, too excited) Anyway, the company, I'm dealing with built all the cool vehicles in a lot of big movies. Including a few batmobiles, and planet rovers from few space movies, blah blah blah, and the excitment from them is ridiculous. I mean, these guys build jets for the airforce. I went to their top secret local way out in the middle of nowhere and when I walked in, I just couldn't believe my eyes. It's better than I imagined. Can't wait to shoot this thing. It doesn't get to us until late September but I can't wait to put our Fan4 inside. We (my production designer Kirk P.) also saw the models for the individual pods - once the Fantasticar spilts up. They are on schedule and preparing all the gadgets and circuit boards, blah blah blah. I needed this visit. A little shot in the arm.
