This question was asked on another Forum.
I tried to defragment my computer, but I keep getting this error message that has to do with my volume and system restore.
You should always scan or error check your hard disk before a defrag. It is Error-checking under W-XP.
As Scirta said previously - close all problems. She gave instructions for Windows 98.
If you have Windows XP, open MY COMPUTER and right click on LOCAL DISK (C).
Left click on PROPERTIES, then click on the TOOLS tab.
Under Error-checking click Check now.
Check the first item, then click Start.
You must restart your computer.
When that's completed, then try the Defragment. You have the option to Analyze first. Your computer will tell you whether that's necessary.
Your Start menu has "Help and Support" which will give you a lot of information.

I realized what I was doing wrong and fixed the problem, but, thanks anyway for taking the time to try to help me.

As Scirta said previously - close all problems. A mistype? Or a Freudian slip commentary on Windows? You decide. ;D

Honestly compels me to admit the truth. It's a play on a word that I knew Scirta would recognize.
My fingers just typed it and wouldn't let me go back and change it. Scirta can psychoanalyze it, and me. ;D ;D

*chokes on dinner* recognize it I did. ;D Whenever I'm trying to close a "problem", it just opens up again. And who's gonna psychoanlayze ME? Oh boy, what I wouldn't give to be able to just close all problems and reboot real life right now ;D *presses ESC wildly*

Scirta, whatever you do don't panic. Hang on. Dr. Sweetie-Pie Cale is on the way to take care of your psyche, and anything else that needs taking care of. ;D ;D Where is Elle? I think she might need a on her psyche.

Oh boy, what I wouldn't give to be able to just close all problems and reboot real life right now ;D *presses ESC wildly* You know, that does sound like a good idea. Of course, knowing my luck, I'd have some sort of a boot failure or something. But let's not psychoanalyze. All I really remember from Psych 101 about Freud is thingy envy. And I think I'll just let that conversation stop right there . . .

Sometimes I have that. Not now though. I have a headache. ;D
Hey, SuperB, we were one minute apart in that post.

Thanks Aerie and SuperBlonde ;D ;D ;D I have a hunch that MLFan would need Dr. Cale to fix her computer, but I'm not giving him away yet. NO WAY!

One of my new CDs won't work when I try to play it in my computer, but, the CD plays perfectly when it's in my portable CD player. Any help is welcomed and apperciated.

Well, MLfan, if anyone is to help you, they'd need more info for sure. What kind of Cds are you using? What kind of Cd Players? What is the reaction of your comp (spits out CDs, throws error messages at you, crashes, talks back naughtily etc.) Try right clicking the CD and get the properties.

The CD doesn't come back out on its own and this is a store bought CD and I'm using a Sony CD Player and it skips when I try to listen to it on my computer, no matter which song I've tried to play.

It just keeps skipping, huh? Well, if it helps you feel less alone, I've got a similar problem myself. I have one CD that will play just fine on my CD player and my DVD player, but when I stick it in my computer the last two songs skip like crazy.
I've had the CD for a year and a half or so, and I don't listen to it so much anymore. I've looked at it over and over again and never found any scratches or anything. I never did figure out why it did that, but I finally just set it not to play the last two songs and it was fine.
Very odd that it does that for your whole CD. And that it won't eject and whatnot. I never had that much trouble with mine.
Maybe there's something defective about your CD that only your computer can pick up? I don't know, I'm not computer savvy.
Where is Dr. Cale when you need him?

I looked at my CD for scratches and I didn't find any either.
