Maybe Reilynn will come and help. I'll yell really loud for her in the computer help thread. Maybe dzero knows.
dzero, where are you?
Meanwhile, did you set a Restore Point? Some programs set one for you before they run.
What operating system do you have?
You should be able to go to the start menu
Click on Search in the right column
and maybe find them there, one by one, according to what OS you have.
I back up everything throughout the day to CDs and I have external drives, little ones and a biggie. Yes, I'm very anal but my business, my years of education, in other words - my life, is on my computers.

intstebri has all the right answers 3) Even going on your main disk and try a "Search" with the name of one of your files? Start with this one using the search function from your start up menu. I wouldn't do any kind of 'restore' or 'last known good configuration' unless as a last resort because doing this could destroy the very documents you are trying to find. So don't listen to Aerie ;D. Actually I take that back, she was exactly right, try and contact Reilynn, unlike me she actually knows what she's talking about .

Okay, I restarted like 5 times, and MOST of the programs are back. Only Nero, Photoshop and iTunes are MIA. All docs are still missing. Tried the search thing, nothing turned up...Even set it to look through hidden folders. Recycle bin was empty as well. And I realise the computer date and time gets all screwy after the restart (keeps on reverting to 1998).
I should have backed them up! This is punishment for being LAZY! Grrr... I didn't back up the unfinished chapters, which is pretty stupid, I know... Well, I know better know.
Is this a virus problem? I ran a full system scan and it didn't find anything, but the anti virus on the system has been wonky for a while...Is there such a virus which just eats up documents and messes with the com clock?
Going to head off to the Computer problems thread... See if Reilynn has any answers.

You retrieved some program just because you restart?? Okay, do a real shutdown (not a restart). And make sure you will let the computer out 20 second (minimum for no-back-electric-fire, I can said that better in english).
After it, if you still miss some files, try the "free version" of the link to retreive).
We didn't receive any alert for new virus, so if you have an 'anti-virus' already on, you should not have got one.
Sorry, I wrote that very fast, didn't have time to check for spelling.

You can try a free online virus checker just in case. It can't hurt and it might make you feel secure on that level. housecall.trendmicro.com/It's free and I trust Trend Micro with my life.

Sent the computer for repairing, and the dude at the shop said that the hard drive was corrupted. How it got corrupted, still a mystery for me. Good news is, he says he probably can salvage the docs from it (kinda reminds me of how Abby does it on NCIS. ;P).
Its gonna cost me a load though. Hope he can really fix it!
*keeping fingers crossed*

Hope he can really fix it! *keeping fingers crossed* I wish I could offer you more of an explanation, but unfortunately 'corrupted' isn't really very specific. If it is a hardware failure then there probably wasn't much I could have done in any case. (Unless you happen to live near Portland Oregon and I could have pulled the hard drive and stuck in it one of my computers. Even armatures can sometimes get data off hard drives that will no longer boot, if is the operating system that is broken and not the sectors with the files.) Incredibly easy backup - e-mail to your g-mail or yahoo e-mail address OR if you have anyone proof reading or just wanting a sneak peek. (Even people that claim they can't proof read and just want a sneak peek will spot some errors and have some other really good observations.)

Thanks for the tip! I'm a total loss when it comes to computers. Except for surfing the net, watch movies and writing... theres basically nothing else I do with it. Waste of a good computer, my friend says.
Oh well.

THE FILES ARE BACK! although they were named like 'jwelk~01' Warning! That's meant they didn't restore your last version's files (probably was too corrupted ), but only the "partial saving" version, during your last modifications. If you had made modifications after this "partial saving" (nobody knows really WHEN it's occured), you will have to re-do it . Wack (not sure about this word, sorry, I mean Not Funny) job!
