What's the criteria (apart from being dead) for being included in the Oscar's in memoriam tribute?

Having been unable to actually watch the Oscars I can't really get too far into it but i do have some thoughts: I'm annoyed that the Kings Speech won so many of the major awards, great film though it may be it seems like it got more credit for being a slightly melodramatic feel good story than it deserved. The Social Network will probably go down as the Citizen Kane of the digital age and dealt with some far more weighty ideas and did so in brilliant fashion, it IMO should have won best picture, it should also have gotten best director as well. It's getting a screen play award was IMO beyond a shadow of a doubt Sorkins script was amazing and will be regarded as an all time great. I also feel I must point out that I've come to a profound realization about the way the Academy rewards film makers, I am now enlightened. The Academy in many ways is like my high school hockey team, they haze, mercilessly the filmmakers they like. They kicked Scorsesse around for a couple decades, kicked the Coen brothers around for 15 years and now there doing it to Christopher Nolan and David Fincher. It's like they deliberately, go out of there way to deny worthy filmmakers their due, so that in 5-10 years when they've thoroughly neglected them they can then play up the vindication angle to make it seem that much more dramatic and fulfilling to the audience. Thats the only reason I can come up with as for why they've refused to give Fincher and a nolan there just due. I will admit this year I think the Social Network was the more deserving of the pair, it should have won Picture/Director awards. Where Nolan got royally (pun intended) shafted was in best original screenplay. IMO Inception had one of the most ingenious story lines I've ever seen, it should have been rewarded for it's originality which one would think is why they have two awards for original and adapted screenplays. However the academy in its infinite wisdom went with the King Speech for that as well.

I liked this one Colin Firth taking a picture with his phone of his name being engraved on his Oscar.

I've no objection to Colin Firth wininng best actor, I really couldn't care any less about him. My qualm is solely with the Kings Speech getting best picture/director.

I've seen the Social Network, but none of the other nominees. The kids were allowed to host the night - but the grown ups didn't want them taking away the big one too

Very disapointed in the new movie Paul I've liked so many other movies with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and this one was just blah from start to finish Also the film just seemed to be shot in an ugly way like the director didn't even care

Keanu Reeves confirms 'Bill And Ted 3' script is writtenFor a long time, the movie/fan fraternity has felt strongly - or at least, we have - that the one thing that could cheer Sad Keanu up would be to take a holiday from po-faced dramas to the joyful comedy duo that made him a star: Bill & Ted. Well, it looks like the prayers of Valley-dwelling metalheads the world over have been answered, as the long-rumoured Bill & Ted "threequel" now looks more certain than ever to become a reality! Talking to MTV, Reeves has confirmed that the film is definitely in the works, and that the script has been written. The script picks up where Bogus Journey left off (i.e. when Wyld Stallyns had played the greatest gig in history and caused peace in the Middle East, etc). So sayeth Ted Theodore Logan: "When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened. So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back." If you watch that (unembeddable, sadly) MTV video, Reeves is even sporting his Ted hair again! He seems upbeat and not sad at all! BY THE POWER OF WYLD STALLYNS!! The best news is that Keanu and co-star Alex Winter are still mates, and Bill S. Preston Esquire is on board, too. I think this calls for a little celebratory music, don't you? The article
