In the last 2 weeks I've seen three films
The Tourist- Really not that great, basically just two beautiful people frollicing around beautiful Venice, aside from that there isnt much to it.
True Grit - Great film typical Coen brothers, some great moments of comic relief sprinkled into a gripping classic western. Yet again Roger Deakin's out does himself in terms of cinematic beauty.
Tron Legacy - I enjoyed this film MUCH more than I thought I would. Its an incredible film visually, ones it gets into the digital world (where it shifts to 3D) its got a very Blade Runner type feel but in a much more vibrant way. The acting and script are at times a bit unimpressive but Olivia Wilde who I've been watching since she was on the Black Donnollys, but never really was a fan of, gives by far her most impressive performance. Its also got a very open ended story that leaves so many questions unanswered I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel(s). Also Daft Punk's score is pretty awesome, and totally fits with the overall vibe of the film, basically a hyper-stylized time capsule of the 1980's.
Tron Legacy was also the first time I've bothered to see a new release in 3D, and as I suspected it just flat out didn't work for me. In the past the old school 3D glasses used to give me a massive headache, that didn't happen with these but at the same time very rarely did anything appear as 3D to me and even when it did I found myself really not caring.

Big movie news, Anne Hathaway has been cast as Catwoman in the next Batman movie. This is great news for Aerie because now she can conveniently hate both Hathaway and Batman at the same time

I know she hates Hathaway but why does she hate batman? She thought it was too serious Speaking of Batman... Oscar noms are out and no nomination for Nolan as Best Director? Really??? Honestly thats not really the snub that bothers me much. The real genius of Inception IMO was the screenplay which he really should be a lock for Best Original Screenplay. Was it well directed? Yea, but looking at the other nominations I can't really say any of them are less deserving, except for maybe the Kings Speech which I haven't seen. As far as I'm concerned David Fincher should be a lock for Best Director anyway. The snubs that really irked me are actually to Tron Legacy, while I would never say it should get something for acting/directing/picture. It did however at the very least deserve nominations for Visual Effects and Score. I think it should not only have been nominated but been favored in both categories. It also should have gotten a nod for Art Direction.

I know she hates Hathaway but why does she hate batman? She thought it was too serious Then Hathaway might be a good choice, her fake cheeriness will fix the too serious. (Yeah, not a big fan either)

Pretty cool I just watched and official Academy Awards screener DVD for the first time. OK so it would have been cooler if the movie The Social Network wasn't already released as a regular DVD and could be rented by anyone under the sun but still ;D It actually says For Your Consideration right after the FBI warning And the movie itself, I realised after watching it for a second time what movie it reminded me of... Risky Business. Stylishly shot young men talking business with snappy dialogue and a techno soundtrack

It actually says For Your Consideration right after the FBI warning I know. I think comparing it to Risky Business is something of an insult to the Social Network, but I'm not much of a fan of Risky Business. I love the Social Network for both its amazing script and the pitch perfect direction. One of the coolest things is the way the lighting and mood changes. If your going to watch it again pay attention to the dark gloomy mood when Zuckerberg's at Harvard and the way it becomes so much more bright and vivid the second Timberlake's Parker comes into a scene. Whenever he shows up its like you can feel the kind of bright lights and big dreams he brings into the equation actually coming through just by the clarity he brings to the mood of each scene, the night club scene (the one where Parker tells the Victoria Secret story) in particular. Its such a brilliant yet subtle way of emphasizing the way Parker's arrival clarifies Zuckerberg's ambitions.

I think you're underestimating Risky Business cool movie Maybe, in a Brat Pack, kinda way. Never really been a fan though. Saw Green Hornet yesterday, not really that blown away. Seth Rogen's shtick is becoming a bit dry of late, Cameron Diaz was completely useless, Christoph Waltz was funny but nowhere near as well written as he was in Inglorious Basterds. The one guy I was most impressed with was Jay Chou, I walked into the film very skeptical about him having hoped that they would work things out and get Steven Chow in the role. That being said Chou was very good, handled the comedy beats with even more finess than Rogen, and he was awesome in the fight scenes. Michael Gondry's direction was ......interesting, not really sure I'm thrilled with his wacky off the wall styling but its anything but dull.

Finally saw True Grit good but I don't think great probably saw it too late after hearing all the hype but entertaining none the less. Also saw Kings Speech was bored by it , and I usually like historical films too.

I care not, but I thought this might interest someone... Kevin Costner May Join SupermanThe Oscar winner is reportedly up for a role in the reboot.Oscar-winning actor-filmmaker Kevin Costner is reportedly being courted for a role in the next Superman film. Deadline claims "there is heightened interest in Kevin Costner for a key role in the Superman reboot that is being directed by Zack Snyder for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures." The site doesn't know which role Costner might be up for, so let's engage in some pure fanboy speculation. Could the Dances With Wolves and JFK star play Pa Kent? Perhaps Jor-El? Daily Planet editor Perry White? Or maybe a villain? The President of the United States? UPDATED: Latino Review says it's confirmed that Costner will play Superman's adopted dad, Jonathan Kent, in the reboot. au.movies.ign.com/articles/115/1151158p1.html

Happy for Aerie that Colin Firth won the Oscar P.S. just wanted to say how pissed I was that the girl from True Grit was nominated for supporting actress she was absolutely the LEAD of the movie and deserved a Best Actress nomination. They always do this with children's performances, it just seems petty IMO.

Having been unable to actually watch the Oscars I can't really get too far into it but i do have some thoughts:
I'm annoyed that the Kings Speech won so many of the major awards, great film though it may be it seems like it got more credit for being a slightly melodramatic feel good story than it deserved. The Social Network will probably go down as the Citizen Kane of the digital age and dealt with some far more weighty ideas and did so in brilliant fashion, it IMO should have won best picture, it should also have gotten best director as well. It's getting a screen play award was IMO beyond a shadow of a doubt Sorkins script was amazing and will be regarded as an all time great.
I also feel I must point out that I've come to a profound realization about the way the Academy rewards film makers, I am now enlightened. The Academy in many ways is like my high school hockey team, they haze, mercilessly the filmmakers they like. They kicked Scorsesse around for a couple decades, kicked the Coen brothers around for 15 years and now there doing it to Christopher Nolan and David Fincher. It's like they deliberately, go out of there way to deny worthy filmmakers their due, so that in 5-10 years when they've thoroughly neglected them they can then play up the vindication angle to make it seem that much more dramatic and fulfilling to the audience. Thats the only reason I can come up with as for why they've refused to give Fincher and a nolan there just due. I will admit this year I think the Social Network was the more deserving of the pair, it should have won Picture/Director awards. Where Nolan got royally (pun intended) shafted was in best original screenplay. IMO Inception had one of the most ingenious story lines I've ever seen, it should have been rewarded for it's originality which one would think is why they have two awards for original and adapted screenplays. However the academy in its infinite wisdom went with the King Speech for that as well.
