www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=62657Deadline Hollywood Daily's Nikki Finke is reporting that bidding for the distribution rights to Robert Rodriguez's next movie, the independently-financed Machete, expanding upon the fake trailer created for Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse experiment, has ended with 20th Century Fox winning out over five other studios for the rights to distribute it. Danny Trejo returns in the title role, surrounded by a number of big stars including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez. Robert Rodriguez wrote and produced the movie with financing from Rick Schwartz's Overnight Productions, and directed it with co-director Ethan Maniquis. According to the report, the six studios were shown roughly 15 to 30 minutes of footage with the price set at $9 million with a healthy profit sharing from the film's theatrical and back-end grosses. Those who read ComingSoon.net regularly know that Fox was already working with Rodriguez on relaunching the "Predator" franchise, even calling the upcoming summer release Robert Rodriguez's Predators. While the Weinstein Company had the first look rights for the movie due to their long involvement with Rodriguez, the Machete deal included a production deal with Rodriguez, so one can probably assume that Fox will be the filmmaking pioneer's new home.

Machete is scheduled for release on Sept. 3rd. theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/04/robert-rodriguezs-machete-gets.html"After a bidding war that saw 20th Century Fox emerge victorious (and seemingly the new studio where the filmmaker can lay his cowboy hat), Robert Rodriguez's long-gestating "Machete," co-directed with his longtime editor Ethan Maniquis, is now set for a September 3 release date."

While not entirely related to this particular film I've got a question I feel compelled to ask. I was in the magazine shop in the train station the other day and I saw that Jessica is on the cover of some magazine here and they were talking about her big upcoming projects and it listed the Killer Inside Me, Machete and Sin City 2. Why would they consider that a 'coming soon' kind of project?
While I completely understand their interest in the first two of those, I've come to believe that Sin City 2 is never going to happen. They've been talking about the casting and what not for Sin City 2 and 3 for the last 5 years but no progress has been made towards actually filming it.
To be honest I don't know why they haven't because of all the movies made in Hollywood history that has to be one of the easiest seeing as how virtually none of the actors that showed up in a scene together in the first film were even in the same state at the same time.
I'm not sure who on these boards have the Sin City Directors Cut DVD (which I highly recommend) but for those that haven't in the special features they showed how because of the green screen they could film scenes between 2 or 3 or 5 actors with just one actor there then splice the perfomances all together. If thats the case I'm amazed they havent just started making it piece meal and you'd think they'd have had it out by now.

I just don't think most newspapers/magazines regard show biz stories as true news so they'll just print whatever While I completely understand their interest in the first two of those, I've come to believe that Sin City 2 is never going to happen. The rumors online ( and they make sense in this case ) are that the rights to the film are complicated by the directors divorce. his wife was also his producing partner and they got divorced after he made that Grindhouse movie with Tarantino and Rodriguez left his wife for Rose whatever her name is.

Ok so as soon as I get done yammering on about how much that rumor makes sense I do a little searching about the project/Rodriguez and see the news that his next movie to shoot it Spy Kidz 4 so him doing a franchise from his pre divorce days sort of shoots holes in the previously mentioned divorce theory. Note to self...do a little googling before yammering on about things you know nothing aboutfor what it's worth these are the most recent comments I could find from Rodriguez about Sin City 2theplaylist.blogspot.com/search/label/Robert%20Rodriguez3/13/2010 The inevitable "Sin City 2" question was met with a cagey, but hopeful response. Will he revisit the series? "Quite possibly," he said, "It's still somewhere in the running."

Wow, just wow. I really don't know how to respond to that one.... Well, thats one movie I do not want to see. Well in defense of Robert Rodriguez and JA, its rediculously bad by design. Its going for the whole B-movie/exploitation flics of the 60s and 70s.
