The other M/L Fanfic Recommendations Thread is a little full; so here's a new thread for posting and discussion of new M/L fanfics and new M/L writers. Here are a few new fanfics from the previous thread. One Departure, Four Arrivals by Montana-Rosalie Max's Song by cassiecrimson Gunshy by ion bond There is also a C2 on FF.net for completed Max and Logan Fanfics. Here's the link to the Max and Logan Completed Fanfics C2, www.fanfiction.net/c2/23145/3/0/1/

That too, but that’s not even what I thought of…the whole discussion here stresses the duty and obligation part of reviews so much… but can’t we perhaps also see them as a great means for exchange and communication? (In case people leave them, which is the root of the problem of course - so yes, I'm going off-topic here, sorry) Not so much off topic as maybe a different part of the topic? I suspect those people like you who relish the idea of exchange, encouragement and participation do take advantage of the review or PM systems FFN has (unless they're the shy sort who would like to but haven't overcome that shyness yet.) Maybe unfairly, I was thinking more of those who read and move on without comment. For some, it might not have occurred to them that a comment might make a difference; for others, they may literally be oblivious to the fact that a person is behind the story, who spent hours of their time to provide free reading matter. (Someone once pointed out to me that sometimes people respect only that which is offered at a cost -- as in, if the info is offered for free, the person offering must not think it's worth much. Her point of reference was as a student clinician at Duke University, way back when they found that more indigent families came for speech therapy for their kids when it was a dollar or two a lesson, as opposed to free. She was talking about a generation ago so who knows if it's still true, but there ya go.) And as an aside: interesting variant in all this, I've noticed that in the NCIS fandom (proportionately, of course) there seem to be a lot more readers who will add a story to their list of favorites than who review -- certainly a faster act than typing even a couple words in review, but a bit like a mini-review, a thumbs-up to let the author know their story was appreciated. Any thoughts? Anyone write outside of DA and note any differences in how readers communicate with writers? (Of course, in that vein it's only fair to comment how courteous the DA reviewers are -- no real flames. No comment intended about the old wars bashing Logan; that's a bit different ... ) Question: Do any of you writers spurn praise and email reviewers to ask for a critique. Would you prefer to only receive a real critique and not have to read, "Great story, keep those chapters coming." ;D As much as I gripe here, only once have I chased after a reviewer specifically to ask for more -- the reviewer made a couple observations then said something like "if you want more specifics, let me know" so I did. I kinda feel as if it's an imposition to chase after someone nice enough to toss out a review. (Typical me, I wait til I know them from writing then impose on them -- just as if they're family or friends! Something wrong there, maybe... )I have chased other writers ;D asking for critiques and ideas for what's wrong in my fic, mostly of those with whom I've co-written some of the Writers' Pulse stories. Sure, I'd love more critique, but as Herumor said, I might not take all the advice offered but would certainly respect time and thought offered by the person who took the time to send it. And while previously I might have wanted more meaty responses, bad or good, as readers dwindle even brief "yay" comments are appreciated as proof that DA hasn't quite died yet.

Which perhaps is a version of people taking much more than they need or would buy if something is offered as a free sample? So then the question is whether the internet changed or enforced that? There’s so much free stuff on the internet, more or less legal, music, videos, programs, but also all the content that one had to buy in book form in book stores before, like dictionaries, language lesson, information on all kinds of topics… And I admit that even though I’m aware that those things are mostly offered by people in their free time, apart from one or two boards other than here I don’t offer the site owners any kind of thanks. So is fic by most people read with that kind of download / internet consumption attitude? Is it the anonymity, as you said people not thinking about the person behind the story?

Just a couple weeks ago I came here bemoaning the apparent evaporation of M/L writers, readers and reviewers on FFN. I'm pleased to say that the recent flurry of ML stories on FFN has brought back a good group of familiar folks and they're dropping by to leave a comment or two -- so good to see! If you weren't aware, we just finished the "12 Days of Christmas-in-July" (but more are still being posted) which generated several new ML stories posted by DAR members and friends. So thanks to the writers for the stories, the readers for reading, and the reviewers for commenting. Go enjoy peeps -- and drop a little review in the kitty when you do!
