So I just realized I never really mentioned this. About a month ago I moved to England, I'm going to be here in Birmingham for the majority of the next 3-5 years. I've come all this way to finish my undergrad and also complete a post grad degree in Contemporary Military history and International Securities. I've been over here for about a month now and so far I'd say its going pretty well except for this nagging case of bronchitis that just will not leave me alone. I remember when you went over there to look at schools, you got sick then too didn't you? It's the English food isn't it? ;D So I have a question, you have a double major? Because those two really don't go together or am I missing something? Sounds interesting btw

Because those two really don't go together or am I missing something? Sounds interesting btw Its a single major the program is technically called War Studies, but its essentially a combination of military history and international securities and trust me the two are very much related. The undergrad course is more about contemporary military history starting for the most part with World War I. The post grad stuff I've set my sights on is almost entirely contemporary with a large focus on International Securities in current conflicts. Its a very very interesting field of study although it gets many different reactions when I tell people what I'm studying. Whenever I tell women I'm a War studies student then tend to give you a funny look and quite often the question I've gotten from them is 'Do you believe in it?'. To which my first response is 'Do you believe in hurricanes?' they exist whether I believe in them or not and are therefore certainly worthy of some study. Most guys I tell what I'm studying usually think it sounds pretty cool or at least more interesting than something like economics or what not. So yea in a couple years I'll have the academic credentials to back up all the corrections and criticisms I throw at the writers of NCIS over at SpecialOps. Not that I don't consider myself fairly knowledgeable now. As far as my getting sick believe it or not I can't blame the food over here as both times I initially became ill days before I left the US. So maybe I get quite literally homesick.

If you only want to get into her pants then you should probably take dzero's advice and dial it down a notch. However if you're interested in someone you can have a conversation with then I think it's a good opening line. But then I'm married to a guy whose favourite film is The Right Stuff (or maybe Apocalypse Now) has been a Reservist and recently received A Band of Brothers on BlueRay for Father's Day (he already has the original box set but thought that the BlueRay was a must have).
The first question that came to my mind when you mentioned War studies was whether you'd taken many trips to the Imperial War Museum? (How far is Birmingham to London?) We only got to spend 1/2 a day there on our European trip years ago and MrAZ reminds me regularly that I insisted on going to the cafe and eating lunch before looking through the Museum which "wasted a whole 1/2 hr" of looking time!!!
If you study economics at school are you automatically a self-serving capitalist?

A Band of Brothers on BlueRay for Father's Day (he already has the original box set but thought that the BlueRay was a must have). I did the same thing and hes right its worth it. I went a year or so ago, on a previous trip to London and yes its a great museum. In addition to having all the war stuff they had a great exhibit on Ian Fleming's life and writing. It was one thing on a rather long list of places I'm itching to go on this side of the pond. I'm dieing to get over to Normandy and apparently the school I'm at does a group trip every year so I'm very much looking forward to that.

Yea I've heard of that but I didn't get a chance to see it last time I was in London. At some point I'll get around to it.

Is that the one where you go underground and see Churchill's bed complete with a bottle of whiskey next to it? (Or maybe I'm imagining the bit about the whiskey?) Went to lots of military hot spots while in France and Belgium. So many that I can't honestly remember them all. I do recall going to the Ardennes and seeing the 'Battle of the Bulge' memorial. It's a weird thing being on holiday and visiting sites that make you cry. "*uckin aye bubba!"

Right; everything dropped in place when the armistice was announced and the cabionet staff ran up above ground. They later removed the hall walls and put in glass/plexiglass so you can see into every room. Don't remember the whiskey but won't forget the large wall map with all the pin holes -- the troop deployments were shown by colored pins stuck in the wall and adjusted as they got reports of movement. No idea why I remember that and not the whiskey...
