Bah - no Tony.
When I get home from my vacation I will have four episodes of NCIS to watch. Yikes - when I find the time it will be fun. I'll be tempted to zip through and just watch the Tony parts. ;D ;D

Have you seen "Agent Afloat?" Tell us what you thought. Best.Ever.EVER!!sqweeeeeee!Okay, now that I calmed down... I'm serious-- this may be my favorite of all time. Last week and this, they've done a bang-up job of having a great combination of decently interesting plots with great character stuff. Specifically: --LOVE Vance. Love him. Interesting, bright; stuff is going on in his head and he's already complex enough you know it won't be as simple as "likes Gibbs/hates Gibbs" -- he's already a more multi-dimentional feeling character than a lot of were, even after a good number of eps. I suspect it might be a tribute to how Rocky Carrol is playing him too, but whatever, I LOVE him. -- love Gibbs this year. Last year there were some eps I thought he was OD'd on novocaine or somehow had been replaced by an all-wooden Gibbs. Love him more now-- he's *people* again! (you note a theme? Haven't even gotten to Tony yet and the 2 shows this year have me dancing!) -- love Tim ... love Tim with Vance (their shared geek-connection) and love that he's still moving into his own. He really has grown on me in the past couple seasons, starting with his channeling Tony when Tony became Gibbs... --teenyweeny concern: Abs seems awkward & Ducky has barely been on... I'm willing to chalk it up to their not finding easy ways to write those 2 in as they get the team back. But I'm patient & have faith -- those 2 have always known who they are. -- Love Ziva: the growing Tony rumblings from last year didn't drop an iota... All the great things about Ziva ae back and seamlessly moving on from where they were at the end of last season... and... TONY!! for all the usual reasons, of course, but OH WOW they are setting up lots of interesting, complex things with Tony & Ziva-- Tony's remaining guilt, Tony's drinking, Tony's photos of bikini-clad Ziva posted in his digs, Ziva's dark broody guy back home, and the whole WHYDIDZIVAWANTTOCOMEBACKTODC??? moment Gibbs interrupted! (again: Skweee! ;D) They have set up *lots* of good stuff, and I'm just hoping they don't do what they've done before by setting up cool ideas then never developing them... but oh, it looks as if they have a good year planned for us!! Woo-hoo!!!

Loved the Tony/Ziva scenes in this one, very interesting. Dare I say it but does Tony have some depth? ;D Also really liking Gibbs this year. When Gibbs is too much of a hard ass he grates but this year he has been a cool hard ass. Who uses the word "Bah"?

I never knew you were such a Tiva fan. I agree with most of your points, Ziva's persistent interest in Tony is of course very telling, shes having a harder and harder time hiding it. The way Tim and Tony have matured is really great, Tony seems a lot more focused then he used to be which is great and Tim is a lot more confident which is also great. Its fantastic to finally see some growth after 5 seasons. As far as Tony and Ziva its interesting to see where things go, I mean theyre slowly inching towards critical mass and its getting to a point where Gibbs can't ignore it much longer, really looking forward to the point where he has to address it. At the current course and pace they're headed for some sort of event sometime this season. However the writers of this show love to tease so I'm guessing things are going to inexplicably cool down and the focus will shift elsewhere for a while. The one thing I don't like about this show is how many loose ends there are it gets frustrating.
I'm also a big Vance fan, hes a great character I love the deviousness, will definitely make things interesting.

I never knew you were such a Tiva fan. I am! I've always have been a Ziva fan; I was never crazy about Kate (such a whiner!) and when they wrote Tony to play off her, that was when I liked him the least. It's been an interesting parallel-- kill off Kate & replace her with a complex, interesting character; kill off Jenny & do the same with her replacement! As they do with all the characters (except Ducky & Abs, for some reason-- less screen time?) the writers sometimes just hit wrong notes with her, but overall I'm definitely a fan. What a great female role model-- strong, sharp, bright, able, all while being naturally sexy & attractive -- proving you can be both! All this might also be a result of some weird over-NCIS obsession I developed this summer (maybe getting itchy for the new season, after being convinced by the season ender that it would be a good year?) -- I pulled out 2 or 3 eps a week & watched to relax, I'd let the USA marathons play all day when they came on... so maybe I was a sitting duck. Still, it looks as if you guys are too! Double edged sword-- I want to see what they do with this becoming more officially TIVA but I'm so hoping it doesn't draw the sharks... Agreed! So many delicious teasers that they never follow up (or will they? My pet dangler was the teaser that Tony was seen showing up at Ziva's <weekly?> when Gibbs was off in Mexico. What were they doing???) I know everyone sees it as deviousness, but I don't see it as quite so malevolent. I like to think of it as "restrained." ;D (well, okay then: Private? close to the vest?)

I am! I always have been, actually; I was never crazy about Kate (such a whiner!) and when they wrote Tony to play off her, that was when I liked him the least. I agree, I think shes a fantastic character, in some ways she reminds me of our beloved Max. I think Jessica once put it best (paraphrasing here) in saying that unlike 90% of female leading characters on television shes not looking for fulfillment through men. Ziva is a lot like Max, shes looking for her humanity, shes finding emotion after being raised as a soldier and spy, shes trying to be a normal person. There great characters, two of the most interesting female characters I've ever seen on television. Now that I think about it I'm surprised I never realised how close the two really are. I mean if Max was the female James Bond, Ziva would be the equivalent Jason Bourne. A more down to earth realistic take on a similar concept. Double edged sword-- I want to see what they do with this but I'm so hoping it doesn't draw the sharks... You see thats why i said that theirs got to be an event, not a resolution, most people want resolution which isnt what I'm after. I just want to see what happens when everyone on the show acknowledge that there is in fact an elephant in the room, they can then take another 6 seasons to figure out what to do with him for all i care. Its a slippery slope, they can't keep going on this course and not have SOMETHING happen unless they just start treading water. If they did that for long enough it would loose its edge. I've often told authors on FF.net one of my favorite quotes that applies to all sorts of story telling, Alfred Hitchthingy once said "The suspense isn't in the bang, its in everything leading up to the bang." That same theory can apply to a UST/Romantic relationship, its all about the thrill of the chase. But at some point something or somethings have to happen to either keep things going or finally give the pay off. Personally I think its all about the focus of the show, so long as there interactions remain sharp, and also remain a small subplot to the general stories then I don't see why it can be done without jumping the shark. From a fanfiction point of view I am so so so so so thankful for this episode. There are certain times in a shows run where I get frustrated because writers will make fanfiction starting from a point I really don't think is a good jumping off point. Like the end of DA's first season for example or the end of Season 3 on House, not to mention the post-Twilight(Kates Death) stuff for NCIS. Judgement Day was one such marker for me and I really didn't like alot of the post Judgment Day fanfic that came out all summer. Tonight was however a much improved jumping off point for the fanfiction community IMO. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Alfred Hitchthingy. I'cant breathe!

Another great action packed ep. That's 2 for 2! The team really does need to 'get out' more. It seems so much more realistic. The writers seem to have broken out of the 'formula' that was developing over the last season which is great. Was Ducky even in that ep? Oh well, next time. Vance is The Man!!!

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008. "NCIS" put CBS on top at 8 p.m. with a 10.9/17, topping the 7.8/12 for "House" on FOX (the latter show won the hour in the 18-49 demo). Here’s the link, www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ratings093008,0,2843275.story

Given what Vance did in splitting up the team and covering up the death of Jenny and I have to believe that he knows more than he says he does in regards to Agent Lee, I just don't see him sticking around any longer than Jenny did, because, it seems highly unlikely to me that some of his actions wouldn't come back to haunt Vance. As far as Kate, I don't think that TPTB liked her all that much if she wasn't somehow with Tony and the team, because, the skills that got Kate the job at NCIS seemed to be more often than not used against her and that we learned very little about her outside of work.
I also think that Tony really does respect Ziva which, I don't think was the case with Kate. I also think that especially in this episode that we see that for the first time in her life that Ziva does want to make an emotional connection with someone and I think that Giibs is starting to see that as well and it will be interesting to see how Gibbs deals with that. I'm also glad like Abby that the team is back together, that took a shorter amount of time than I expected it to. TPTB at NCIS were did a better job than TPTB at "House" did in breaking up the team.
Abby and especially Ducky always seem to get less screen time, but, this is why I've always thought that with this show that it's a good idea to have two favorite characters, so that I don't complain about screen time and that this makes NCIS more enjoyable for me.

Abby and especially Ducky always seem to get less screen time, but, this is why I've always thought that with this show that it's a good idea to have two favorite characters, so that I don't complain about screen time and that this makes NCIS more enjoyable for me. It's great when you can find more than just one character to enjoy, so I'm not disagreeing with your point, but you missed mine. My point was that over the years the writers have occasionally missed the boat with the major characters, giving them moments of inexplicable OOC-ness (examples: so many complaints about how Ziva was written after being attacked, complaints about how Tony sounded at least xenophobic he gave the "immigrant" speech to Ziva). The line you quoted was my saying that Abby and Ducky 'til now seemed to have avoided being OOC -- then my speculating that maybe this was because there has been less screen time for them to be written 'wrong' (and earlier noted that in the past couple eps, Abby seemed a tiny bit awkward, herself, but not her usual comfort level.) It was a statement of fact about their air time, coupled with my guess that it might have affected how the characters are written-- not a complaint. But no matter, I just watched the ep for the 4th time. Yep, I think it may be my fave to date! think I'll go watch it again...
