I'm honestly not that surprised, I've been kind of annoyed with the contempt the admins seem to have for their own community. (Yes i jnow some members here are admins there tkae it as you like) Very possessive of the community in a way that didn't really do much to foster a positive atmosphere. I've administered forums (bigger than SpecialOps) and the kind of whoa is me grief they gave the community irked me. It's a pro board forum for god sakes, it's not as if theyre paying up the wazoo for servers, web hosting, site/layout design etc, etc, etc. Yes managing threads, user moderation, community bickering, it's all annoying. But a community that big they're are plenty of people willing to take on the simply chores if whoever wants to take a step back. What bothered me was a weird, seemly contradictory vibe: when certain members voiced frustration with the show or wanted to discuss -- civilly, mind you -- certain points, they were shut down in one way or another, apparently because they were not 100% positive about the show. When others came on to launch one or two-liner barbs against the show (e.g., "I can't watch without gagging anymore") and, by extension, insulting those members who had just come on to gush, they were tolerated, even defended. The time I spoke up was after things had quieted, members' participation having dwindled (but still during the season.) My faux pas was to suggest that these latter insults were just sad, and if the person's goal was to stir up some discussion, there were other ways of doing so. Most definitely I had not been invited to comment, and I was more pointed about it than I needed to be, but it seemed that it all was just adding to the drop off of participation, so I spouted off privately to the person doing the sniping. Not appreciated in the least -- or addressed. I was just told I had some nerve and could take a hike. I realize it's summer hiatus, but it's a ghost town there now, just occasional news clips and members' art offerings. For being the longest running (?) board on the still #1 scripted US show, that's sad, and probably not helped by the atmosphere. (if I'm kicked off here too for saying this, it's been a joy knowing you guys. Come find me on FFN... )

(if I'm kicked off here too for saying this, it's been a joy knowing you guys. Come find me on FFN... )I probably should know the specific details of what happened but unfortunately most arguing and griping seems to occur in the format of PMs out of the public eye and most observers only ever see half the story. Often me included. Sometimes members unfortunately get caught in the crossfire. I do know that during the last season there was a lot of heated discussion over a particular storyline. A couple of members wanted to harp on about their viewpoint ad nauseam. I say ad nauseam because any comments to the contrary of their viewpoint were immediately met with nasty responses, both online and PMed by the 'ad nauseamists'. Behind the scenes, many members were asking for the nastiness to stop as they felt they couldn't join in without being bashed. When asked to cool down the discussion, the Mods were then accused of being a dictatorship. You can't win. Members left because they didn't like the tone of the nasty 'discussion' that got out of hand and others left because they felt they were being 'gagged'. While the board might not run the traffic that it did a few years ago, it's due to the nature of the cyber-beast and the expansion of other forms of online discussion. Special Ops has always run a tight ship and made a particular point of shutting down hateful discussions and faction fighting due to what occurred on several DA sites back in the day. While I didn't personally witness the dark side of the DA community, I am sure that if Special Ops didn't impose the order that it does then it would have died soon after Kate was shot.

I was here when there were problems between the Max/Logan shippers and the Max/Alex shippers and I hope to never see something like that in any fandom to put it simply. I think that having that happen definitely affected what's happened sometimes on NCIS Special Ops but Lelu has been kind enough to have threads opened that would really cater to just about any NCIS fan no matter who they like or may ship. I am looking forward to seeing Season 9 of "NCIS" even if I am not on that forum much of late.
