Here's the place to discuss Jessica Alba's movie "The Ten." City Lights Pictures and MEGA Films have teamed to finance and produce "The Ten," a comedy spoofing the Ten Commandments, to be directed by David Wain ("Wet Hot America Summer"). Pic, written by Wain and Ken Marino, will star Paul Rudd, Amanda Peet, Jessica Alba, Ken Marino, Justin Theroux and Adam Brody.
Jonathan Stern will produce with Morris Levy for MEGA along with Marino, Rudd and Wain. City Lights CEO Danny Fisher and Michael Almog will exec produce, Michael Califra will co-exec produce and Marcus Lansdell will associate produce. Filming will begin in July, primarily in New York.
Wain's credits include small-screen comedy series "The State" and Comedy Central show "Stella." Marino is screenwriter, producer and cast member of "Diggers," which will be released later this year by HDNet/Magnolia. City Lights and MEGA just completed principal photography on the thriller "Descent," produced by and starring Rosario Dawson. City Lights also produced "Tamara" for Lionsgate and "Interrupted," directed by Philip Kaufman.

JESSICA ALBA IN THE TEN She has dipped her toe in indie waters before, but Alba tends to stick with movies designed to make a big splash at the box office ("Sin City," "Fantastic Four"). It may not earn a ton of money once it hits the real world, but her Sundance comedy "The Ten" - in which she plays the gorgeous temptation to cheating husband Paul Rudd - is likely to draw loyal fans of director David Wain, whose last festival fave was the outrageously funny "Wet Hot American Summer." And, more likely, it'll draw fans of Alba who want to see her being sexy and silly. Info from www.nydailynews.com

I had kinda assumed that she had dropped out of this movie . Right after this movie was announced she also signed for Bill and Good Luck Chuck. Both those sounded like JA had bigger parts in them than in this movie and she was seen on the set of both those movie but unless I missed one I never saw any set pics or stories about her filming this The Ten . Guess I'm not the stalker I used to be .

Don't feel bad, dzero. The article from the New York Daily News is the first concrete news that I've seen about Jessica's involvement with "The Ten." I also haven't seen much about "Good Luck, Chuck" or "Awake" and even less about "Bill."

"Ten" satire gets high-five at Sundance
PARK CITY, Utah (Hollywood Reporter) - ThinkFilm has bought North American theatrical distribution rights to the Ten Commandments satire "The Ten," whose cast include Winona Ryder, Jessica Alba and Adam Brody. The indie partnered on the $4.5 million deal with City Lights Home Entertainment, which will handle DVD and digital distribution. Both companies will share all revenues. An August theatrical release is planned.
The episodic film, directed by David Wain, also features Paul Rudd, Liev Schreiber, Justin Theroux, Gretchen Mol, Oliver Platt and Famke Janssen. The film was described as "a very smart brand of seemingly dumb comedy" by Mark Urman, the head of ThinkFilm's U.S. theatrical operations. "We thought it was a hilarious, funny, movie, and that if we brought it to an audience with brains and style, it would have the ability to do better than (ThinkFilm's) 'The Aristocrats' or 'Strangers with Candy"' Urman added.

Possible Spoiler SpaceThe following review is from someone who has seen "The Ten." A hilarious film by the director of another hilarious film (Wet Hot American Summer), The Ten is an orgasm for comedy fans. It's the same comedy sensibility of the guys who did "The State", "Reno 911", "Stella", and the afore-mentioned " W.H.A.S." but on a much more professional level. It looked great visually, it had an all-star cast (off the top of my head, Paul Rudd, Gretchen Mol, Oliver Platt, Justin Theroux, Famke Jannsen, Jessica Alba, Rob Corrdry, that young kid from the O.C., and many more). It's basically just ten comedy sketches all somewhat combined, sharing a character or two, representing each of the 10 commandments, with Paul Rudd's character providing a constant 11th sketch in between each of the commandments. It's short, hilarious, and leaves you wanting more. A hilarious film that I want to see again. Probably the best film I saw. Score? 9.5/10 (0.5 points deducted for the two or three lame jokes and the stupid rock scene at the end).

I'll put up a direct link, easier to find www.myspace.com/thetenmovie The trailer is a little odd, looks like they are trying to satirize self important Oscar bait movies. the music had me thinking of the movie Crash but the actions of the actors clearly had no relation to the music. I like the idea of what they are doing.....but I don't think this is going to get many people to go see the movie .

Possible Spoiler SpaceThis is another review from someone who has seen "The Ten." Wow! Were do I begin? In case you didn't hear the Sundance buzz, THE TEN is a collection of hilarious vingettes loosely (extremely loosely) based around the ten commandments. Director David Wain and co-writer Ken Marino corraled the usual suspects from past sketch comedy troupe The State plus a vast array of recognizable faces including Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder, and Rob Corddry to bring us one of the most outrageous comedies of the year. I've been a big fan of Wain and company's work throughout the years, and it's always to fun see the same faces pop up in each other's projects all the way from The State to Wet Hot American Summer and now even Reno 911. THE TEN is the perfect concept film highlighting the vast talents of these perennial collaborators. The humor of THE TEN is as off-the-wall as off-the-wall gets. Okay, maybe not as off-the-wall as Stella, but this comedy definitely exists in its own universe. Examples include a "keeping up with the Jones'"-type sketch where the instead of vying for best lawnmower, SUV, or pool, the competing neighbors objects of desire are CAT scan machines. As CAT scan machines fill each of their homes, yards, and rooftops, madness ensues. Another segment features a skydiving Adam Brody as he jumps from a plane just as we learn he has no parachute. Miraculously, fiance Winona Ryder finds him alive, albeit imbedded shoulders down in the ground with no chance of survival if ever removed. As we make our way through the 10 commandments, overlapping characters and storylines form a vague connection between each short film culminating in a fantastic musical finale. In addition to the ten individual sketches, we get a bonus segment (and highlight of the film I might add) from narrator Paul Rudd. As he "narrates" the film, we get to see a love triangle unfold between him, Famke Janssen, and Jessica Alba. Paul Rudd is hilarious! I'm so pleased that a film like THE TEN is getting a theatrical release. From the Kids in the Hall to the Upright Citizens Brigade, I've always been excited when such talented comedy troupes have the opportunity to reach a wider audience. I'm a big fan of short films and bizarre sketch comedy, so for me, THE TEN completely hits the nail on the head while appealing to a large audience. If you want to laugh your a** off go see THE TEN. I'll be checking in later with more reviews from SXSW! Annette Kellerman Info from www.aintitcool.com

The following is a review from someone who has seen "The Ten." Possible Spoiler SpaceSXSW Review - The Ten With the Exception of Saturday Night Live, no recent sketch troupe has had more of an influence on the modern comedy scene than The State. After a short-lived but amazing run on Mtv, the numerous members moved onto other things. Most of these projects have been great, ( Reno 911, Viva Variety, Wet Hot American Summer, The Baxter), some have been terrible, (The Pacifier, Herby: Fully Loaded, Men Behaving Badly) others just strange (Stella). While most of theformer cast have appeared in each other's films and shows in various configurations, The Ten is the first movie to reunite the entire cast of that doomed, brilliant show. In addition to the State folks (Thomas Lennon, Kerri Kenney, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Michael Ian Black, Ben Garant, Todd Holoubek, Michael Showalter), director David Wain ( Wet Hot American Summer, Stella) has assembled an impressive ensemble cast, composed of some predictable choices, such as Paul Rudd, Rob Corddry Justin Theroux and Oliver Platt, and a whole bunch of actors not necessarily known for absurd comedy, folks like Jessica Alba, Famke Janssen, Liev Schreiber, Winona Ryder, Gretchen Mol and Ron Silver. The Ten is a collection of long, interweaving sketches, loosely tied to the ten commandments. Paul Rudd introduces each story from the middle of a black void, the only decoration two enormous stone tablets. Despite the premise, don't expect any sort of real religious commentary from the film. With one exception, the biblical concept is used only as the most basic inspiration for each of the bits. The humor on display here is most certainly of the absurd variety, think Stella more than Reno 911. This form of humor can be a dangerous one. The line between comically absurd and random for the sake of random can be perilously thin and, as is often the case in this sort of enterprise, some of it works, some doesn't. Fortunately, the movie throws so many jokes at you in such rapid succession, even when one falls flat, there is usually another, funnier gag waiting right behind it. As should be expected with such an enormous cast, not every actor gets a lot of screen time. Almost everyone, however, gets something fun to do. Winona Ryder, in particular, stands out. It has been a long time since I last enjoyed her this much in a movie. In fact, with the possible exception of Heathers, this is the funniest thing she has ever done. She gets some of the most bizarre scenes and she plays them with utter seriousness. It is hilarious. Jessica Alba is also surprisingly funny in her two scenes, although, my low expectations for her comic skills may have had something to do with that. I am being intentionally vague about the content of the film. The reason for this, is that in most cases, knowing anything about a scene would ruin a lot of what makes it work. However, I will say that prison rape, puppet sex, cat-scan collecting, adultery, animated rhinos and fatal malpractice are among the subjects covered. The Ten will definitely not be every one's cup of tea. If you haven't been able to hang with David Wain in the past, this probably isn't going to change your mind. That being said, I saw the movie at a packed screening in Austin's Paramount Theater. There were about a thousand people there and they went crazy for it, laughing and even breaking into applause during some scenes (Michael Ian Black, delivering a Shakespeare soliloquy, was particularly well received). As I said, the film might be a bit too odd to make any sort of mainstream splash, but I predict it eventually earning a sizable cult following. The Ten is slated to release in theaters on August 3rd 2007. Info from www.collider.com

Info about the soundtrack, if that's of interest. Thanks! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE COMMOTION RECORDS TO RELEASE SOUNDTRACK TO DAVID WAIN’S THE TEN ON AUGUST 28TH Music from Craig Wedren Sets the Stage … (August 14, 2007, New York, NY) —Commotion Records is pleased to announce the release of the soundtrack to the feature film, The Ten on August 28, 2007. The film, directed by David Wain and co-written by David Wain and Ken Marino (The State, Wet Hot American Summer) is a comedy spoof examining ten stories of what happens when each of the Ten Commandments is broken. The soundtrack features original songs and score by former Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren (Wet Hot American Summer, High Art). The Ten is an innovative comedy that weaves ten stories into one. Each of the ten vignettes tells the story of the Ten Commandments in a unique way, interconnecting until they reach their climactic conclusion: a classic song and dance cavalcade ala 1940’s Hollywood, performed by the cast. A rocking ride through the mind of one of today’s most creative composers, Craig Wedren spans numerous musical genres to connect the ten vignettes, each one reflecting the breaking of a different one of the Ten Commandments. In addition to the eclectic mix of music, the soundtrack features dialogue from the all-star cast that includes Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder, Famke Jensen, Oliver Platt, Gretchen Mol, Jessica Alba and others. The album is as surprising and whimsical as the film. Composer Craig Wedren has released a variety of spectacular soundtracks over the last 10 years, including High Art, School of Rock, and Roger Dodger. As the former front man of the band Shudder To Think, Wedren has built a fan-base with his pop style influences and musical virtuosity. “David and I put together an incredible team of musicians, composers, and arrangers to create a wholly unique, wildly varied musical experience,” describes Wedren. “In addition to the amazing cast who appear on the record (Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder, Liev Schreiber, to name a few), members of the bands OK GO, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, Guided By Voices, Shudder To Think, and Citizens Band all lend a voice -- and musical comedian Steven Lynch sings a sweet-ass disco song, backed by Rashida Jones (of ‘The Office’).” “With The Ten,” said David Wain, “Craig takes his game to a new level. Working with a diverse group of collaborators and vocalists, he has created an epic soundtrack for a movie that is really ten movies in one.” Commotion Records has a history of great soundtrack releases including Mysterious Skin, Happy Endings, Code 46, The Cooler, and Oscar Winning film Hotel Rwanda. The Ten, along with Commotion releases, Broken English (Directed by Zoe Cassavetes with music from Scratch Massive, I Am Kloot and Juan Trip) and Vacancy (composed by Paul Haslinger), will be in stores on August 28, 2007. ### For more information, contact: cinemediapromo@yahoo.com WHAT’S ALL THE COMMOTION?
