The A/A (Anesthesia Awareness Campaign) has supplied information several times to the people working on the movie AWAKE! starring Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen. Contrary to information previously obtained from the web that, "as of November 13, 2006, according the movie publicists, AWAKE is scheduled to open in theaters on February 8, 2007: a call to The Weinstein Company on November 29, 2006, failed to obtain a release date for AWAKE. At least one test viewing has been done, and audience reaction to the film is said to have been very strong. Finding informaton on AWAKE have proven to be nearly impossible. Literally multiple dozens of calls to anyone I can think of result in zero information from anyone I believe to be associated with the production. This is a puzzlement. www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7008128337Hayden Christensen And Jessica Alba Star Together In Controversial Film "Awake" August 7, 2007 10:28 a.m. EST Kimberly Spice - AHN News Writer Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - One movie anesthesiologists do not want the public to see is the yet to be released, "Awake" because it hits too close to home. The movie, set for release in the US in the fall and stars Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba, is about Christensen who has heart surgery while in this anesthetic awareness state resulting in Christensen and his wife dealing with life-altering decisions while they struggle with their individual demons. The movie's premise is about intraoperative awareness where a patient, given a general anesthetic, is suppose to be total unconsciousness but in fact is fully paralyzed and awake during a surgical procedure feeling all the excruciating pain. The movie is not far fetched as one might think. The Toronto Star states that past eye surgery patient, Carol Weihrer, was awake during her surgery and Yvonne Coleman was awake while having surgery in New York as surgeons removed a abdominal hernia. Coleman is quoted by The Star as saying, "I remember the surgeon asking, 'Are you ready kiddo?'" "Ready for what?" "I felt every tug and pull." "I heard them making fun of my weight." "In my head I was screaming." "I wanted to die." Weihrer, as a result of her ordeal has created the Anesthesia Awareness Campaign to bring attention to this all too common phenomena and she is hoping the movie will help bring her cause international attention. Director of pre-operative assessment and clinical research for the University Health Network in Toronto, Scott Beattie, is quoted as saying, "Anesthesiologists are not looking forward to (Awake) coming out at all."

www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=1581MGM Thriller Awake Moves to November Source: MGMOctober 12, 2007 File under: We're not exactly sure if this is horror, but the premise is chilling enough. MGM slotted the Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen vehicle Awake for a November 30th release. The ex-Vader plays a man who experiences "anesthetic awareness" during heart surgery. In other words, he's paralyzed but completely cognizant of what's happening to him. It's a concept that has been explored in "Tales from the Crypt" and FX's "Nip/Tuck." Joby Harold makes his writing-directing debut with Awake and until we start seeing trailers that prove this doesn't remotely look scary, we'll keep it on our radar.

Awake will do to surgery what Jaws did to swimming in the ocean Every year, one out of 700 patients – or an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 of the 21 million patients – experience “anesthetic awareness,” according to a Nov. 23, 2004 Washington Post article by Sandra Boodman. This event happens “when surgical patients can recall their surroundings or an event – sometimes even pain – related to their surgery while they are under general anesthesia,” according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. On Nov. 30, the film “Awake” will debut in theaters nationwide to expose the surgical event. “Awake” stars Jessica Alba, Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker in the newer “Star Wars” films) and Terrence Howard. “This film will do to surgery what ‘Jaws’ did to swimming in the ocean,” said Deutsch/Open City Films co-founder and producer Joana Vicente. “As a victim of [this], I dedicated the last nine years to educating the public to help them understand the scope, sheer terror and trauma involved when awareness occurs,” said Anesthesia Awareness Campaign, Inc. founder Carol Weihrer. She added: “There is no way to accurately describe to someone how it feels to be ‘entombed in a corpse’ as I was.” Info from www.hollywoodchicago.com.

Alba and Christensen wide awake Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen have stepped out on the red carpet in New York to promote their new film Awake. In the film, Christensen plays a young man who's perfect life is a lot darker than it seems. His fiancee (Jessica Alba) is employed by his overbearing mother, and he's in desperate need of a heart transplant. Alba, who's starred in Fantastic Four and Sin City, said she was partly attracted to the film because it was a break from all the commercial films she's been working on. She said: "A big reason why I wanted to do this movie is it's an independent shooting in New York; it's about my relationship with Hayden. I got to play it exactly the way I wanted to, a person with emotions and inner struggle and all of that fun stuff that actors like to do." Info from www.channel4.com

Saw the movie today. Unfortunately I didn't like the film very much. I think Jessica did a good job with her performance and it goes without saying she looked great. Especially all wet in a couple early scenes But the film is way too much soap opera for my taste. It's not really the thriller the trailers make it out to be. I mean that thriller element is part of the plot and he is "awake" while under the anesthesia like the ads say, but most of the film is about their life before the operation or what's going on in the rest of the hospital during the operation. And all of this is quite silly IMO. couple observations...JA has a lot of scenes with Lena Olin who plays Hayden Christensen's mom. But the thing it she looks soooooooo much more like she would be Jessica's mom. Some of those close ups of the two are like looking into Jessica's future. And it's a nice future BTW There is also one surprise in the film and it's kind of Dark Angel related, in the same way that last weeks NCIS episode kinda referenced DA. I don't want to say what it is because it's a surprise plot point ( and the only good one in the whole movie ) so I don't want to ruin it for anybody planning to see the film. But for anybody who isn't planning to see the film but wants to know what I'm babbling about ;D? Then send me a PM and I'll tell you.
