that sounds like lawyer gobbledegook to me. well, one guy's gobbledegook is another guy's retirement plan! (and my spell checker seems to think it's "gobbledygook" anyway, so who knows!)

re Shy: i think a better analogy would be guns. There legal to own it just comes down to what you use it for. Actually, I thought of that first and tossed it for my traffic light analogy, which I think sings. Sounds like another one of our pages-long, esoteric discussions could be brewing... ;D ( while the rest of the board pleads: )

Peer to Peer (P2P) software (and torrents) aren't in themselves illegal to use - eg you can legally purchase movies and tv eps via the BitTorrent.com website similar to purchasing through Amazon or iTunes. Several of the radio shows that I listen to are freely available for download via torrent (and promoted by the producers as such). Unfortunately CBS isn't one of the networks that likes to distribute it's stuff digitally outside the US. Some distributors hold a very tight rein on their product and have been known to pull stuff off Youtube (including fan-made video clips set to music) that they didn't want people sharing.
It's nice that the Top Gear folks turn a blind eye to the goings on - however it's probably best not to flaunt it and abuse the privilege.
I vote for the gun analogy ;D

I kinda think the producers of the show know about it but maybe didn't tell the licensing people or whatever at the BBC lol. One of the guys from the Top Gear magazine regularly posts updates and asks for feed backs as well as advice on distribution abroad. They also posted on there before Top Gear shot there 'American' Episode asking for Camaro experts in South Florida.

I think what you are forgetting is that the producers (production company) are different to the executive producers and distributors for tv products. There are a lot of different people putting money in to produce a tv show. Just because one of those groups is may be happy for content to be shared on the internet, does not mean that the others are so obliging.
There is also a difference between sharing production information on blogs and openly inviting the sharing and distribution of copyrighted material.
Just because something is uploaded to the web, does not make it copyright free. Just because a company doesn't remove something from the web or Youtube, doesn't mean that they condone it being uploaded in the first place. Note that when you do a Google search for images that there is a little disclaimer "Image may be scaled down and subject to copyright."
The mother of all copyrighted material is the olympic rings. You can't even take a picture of the rings (for example if they appeared on a public building) and then publish the picture without the permission of the IOC.
Ooops, now I've really gone off on a tangent!

They openly support the site and the site openly supports the use of torrenting episodes of the show. The main page of the site is updated after every episode airs providing a link to the torrent. Also one of the producers said in a blog on Top Gear that he reads comments on that site after every episode.

So what's the deal??? Was just looking for an NCIS thread I knew was there and happened to look in Archives -- and discovered a whole long list of recently active threads which had been closed and tossed into archives -- most of them NCIS threads, most of them with only a few pages open. There are TONs of other, far more ancient threads still alive and moldering without being closed, and many nearly 20 pages long. A lot of the closed ones were not those that had been replaced by another thread, at least not entirely. WHY?? Can we get at least some of 'em back? Are we allowed only so many NCIS threads on a DA board? Sadly enough, the NCIS threads have been the more active ones lately and though we try to keep the DA threads going too, there aren't too many of you out there who come on and talk with us. So we add in NCIS too -- (something has to counterbalance ALL those photos of JA ) So what gives?
