Finally saw Benjamin Button. I really liked the 5 minute WWII sequence and especially the 30 second battle scene. The rest of the 168 minute movie bored me to tears. It would be worth it to me though if this inspires David Fincher to make a war movie. I hope and dream that Fincher directs a war movie I've no doubt it would be epic. On a slightly related note its been my dream that David Fincher somehow sign on to Direct the long awaited and forever stalled film adaptation of Without Remorse one of my favorite novels and also the inspiration for my 'handle', but I digress. The thing I loved about Benjamin Button was the beauty of the film and the story and the profound sadness. It was a lot like The Assassination of Jessie James in that respect, another film that bored most people to tears but I enjoyed immensely.

You already know that I thought they never *did* get anyone on screen to be the real Jack Ryan (I admit I'm totally hard sell about who could do the role justice.) Who would you want to see be Clark? Who is being considered? (are they that far along?) Willam Dafoe is a fine actor, but was NOT John Clark.

I thought Liev Schreiber did a terrific job in an otherwise awful incarnation of Sum of All Fears, he was pretty much the only thing they got right in that film and he was criminally under utilized. If Without Remorse does make it to the big screen I'm hoping they go with someone pretty young as his character is in his mid to late 20's. I'd go for someone like Ryan Reynolds or Chris Evans.

Piffle - that would be a popularity contest. That is the People's Choice Awards not the Academy Awards. Kate Winslet is a wonderful actress, even though I hated her two movies this year. Dreary stuff. Because Jolie and Pitt are seen everywhere they shouldn't win Oscars ? Holy mackerel Batman, who knew. I know quite a few people, okay - only seven, that are members and are eligible to vote. We talk about it often (nightly) at this time of the year and none of them use that criteria. It's not supposed to be popularity - it's acting in that particular film. Melissa Leo in Frozen River was amazing in that film but without publicity how could she possibly win. Probably half the members didn't even see it. She was better that Kate Winslet. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Milk The Reader Slumdog MillionaireI thought Iron Man and Wall-E were better movies than The Reader and Slumdog, even tho Slumdog was good. I thought that "Iron Man" was a better movie than some of the movies nominated for best picture and I liked "Slum Dog Millionaire" best of the movies that were nominated for best picture. Angelina already has an Oscar and I like the fact that Kate has let her work speak for itself and has for for the most part kept her personal life out of the headlines. I think "Benjamin Button" was a good movie, but, that it was depressing and "Slum Dog Millionaire" is a movie where I went out of the movie theatre happy.

Yea Natalie Portman is very very hot. Shes also IMO one of the most talented actresses of her generation, tied with Scarlett Johanson for the looks/talent combo. It sucks that she and Scarlett wound up working together on that piece of crap movie with whats his name. Would love to see them together on something better.
