Wow, let's not all rush to this one at once!

It was another one of those eps I need to see again, and will probably like a little better when I do. But on first watch, it was another one of those that struck me as off stride a bit, too much packed in when packing wasn't really necessary, Gibbs having weird reactions to everything (what was with all the smirking in the first 20 min -- that was him covering up what he knew? Hmm) and not enough of Tony, Ziva & McGee.

Sad, because the idea that the boat should suddenly appear, whole and seaworthy, after several weeks of an empty basement, was a nifty one. And the idea that Gibbs gave it to his god-daughter (who happened to live where she could USE a boat!) was sweet. I usually like Franks, too, though I don't always like what the writers do with him, and muchly like the slowly developing trust & ease between Gibbs & Vance, a sort of truce-like, grudging appreciation of each other.

(Hmm... as an aside -- is there any Gibbs-Vance slash out there yet? I wonder...)

All that griping, though, I suspect I'll watch it again and like it much more -- seems to happen to me too much; the show doesn't quite fit my expectations for the first viewing but once I know what's coming up, I can watch it more for what happens along the way - usually the character bits that are the most fun anyway.

I may just get some more coffee and do that right now!

PS Yeah, much better, 2d showing -- maybe just the more intimate, up close & personal on laptop & headset than on TV across the family room? (and no, I'm not easily distractable, why do you ask?)

Still like the warming connection between Gibbs & Vance, don't like Tony going for ugly American mode but don't think it's meant to be his true thoughts, just another way to poke at Ziva (and McGee by extension) and play the clown... did like his sudden support/genuineness when he said to what's her name that Ziva was trying to start over, too...

And Gibbs' expressions were less irritating this time.

(okay, so I rambled too long as usual, but no one was weighing on on this one! somebody hadda do it...)

What is Gibbs - Vance slash?

How is it over there in the club of people who like Franks? Lonely I would imagine. Need a hug? [image]

;D ;)

Tony and Ziva were the only parts of this ep I enjoyed. I lol'd at Tony's speech and his Limbaugh reference, and yes they him were teasing Ziva :-*

While this episode was nowhere near as difficult to watch as "Angel Of Death" for me it really is not an episode that I will not be watching when it is reairing. The only scenes that I liked in this episode were the scenes with Ziva, Tony, and McGee and Abby's scene with McGee. I never really got into this case and the ending was what I expected, nothing more, nothing less and so "Outlaws and In-Laws" just wasn't an episode where I really couldn't wait to leave some comments.

found this over at imdb.com

MW and others have said, Tony is going through a hard time this season where everything that's happened since season 4 (Jeanne) to now (Ziva) is supposed to be culminating. Michael said DiNozzo would have a difficult time this season emotionally and will do some stupid things.

(You should come visit us in fanfic land; there's no end to what you'll find...)

Slash = same gender action, guy on guy or girl on girl. Ergo, Gibbs- Vance slash ...

Seriously, just about every ficdom has slash and tons of it, I believe it's usually two of the main guys going at it. I never understood it but in a discussion about it (one of those I probably started saying "WTF; why is it so popular and why does it seem to be written by 13 year old girls?) Lisa0316, late of our board, said it best: "these slashy men are almost never gay ... but they're just so smoking hot they have to have sex with each other."

(Her whole quote is actually great and funny and worth repeating: "these slashy men are almost never gay, and the authors are very clear about that. Making them be gay would cut them off from women (i.e. fangirls) and nobody wants that. They love women but they're just so smoking hot they have to have sex with each other. Just like those mud wrestlers; men don't fantasize about lesbians who hate and/or exclude men, they fantasize about women who love sex so much they'll do it with anybody. Same thing for slash couples.")

Anything for a hug, so yeah, LONELY ME!

Nah, what's scary is that there's such a huge range of peeps on Special Ops with such a wide variety of likes and dislikes it's impossible to be lonely in anything about that show!

I guess I like more what Franks represents in Gibbs' development, and wonder if others might like him more if the writers knew what to do with him. You have something against dinosaurs, Mr. TV?

So will they later acknowledge all this as awkwardness and have the team dynamic shatter somewhere, as Michele's quote might allow to happen? Will it be Tony's stupidity that brings Daddy DiNozzo to the show? (it's not like he can disown Tony twice, unless Tony lied about that before...)

And WHY do I care about this so much??? ::) Arg! :-[

I like Franks as a character, however he's become entirely predictable as a plot device. The second I see him on screen or in a promotional photo I know were going to get a Gibb's centric episode where he has to walk on a razors edge between loyalty and his professional integrity. Franks will of course bring an unholy mess and drop it squarely on Gibb's lap then sit at the bar pound back a few cervezas as Gibbs risks life and pension to clear his name. I mean seriously with friends like these who needs enemies? But yes he is a very significant part of Gibbs backstory, not that they really give us too much in that department either.

Yay, they can know go wildly off the rails with their chronic character inconsistency.

no, just rednecks ::)

and this is nothing like the Psych situation, I like Henry quite well I just see him as a small part of the shows appeal. Maybe Gibbs could spend a little more time paling around with Henry and less with Franks. Let the Jethro Gibbs - Henry Spencer slash begin ;D
